Lots of good ideas here. Like StingrayVC I always note things said in passing. Another tip is to always start earlier than you think you need to, but not so early you run the chance of them buying the gift or losing interest in the item over time, ect. Another lesson I learned while trying to wow my SO-don't try to venture too deep into the technical side of his interests unless you really know what you're doing. Leave that kind of thing up to him, much like you wouldn't really want him to seek …

Argh! I'm like you. I am so impatient! Also, my SO is incredibly detail oriented and patient. He takes his time to get the result he wants. He doesn't race ahead to the finish line, he does it right and gets there when he gets there. But like you said-these traits are EXACTLY why they are as successful as they are. The best thing we can do is believe in them and support them in the integrity of their acts and choices.

Very important distinction here-I like to think that RPW are always seeking out those chances to let our partners know we appreciate them, and are thankful for them. I think many of us actually have cultivated a mentality of respect and appreciation that colors our interactions in general with our husbands or partners. It's not a job for us, or even that difficult-we see ourselves as very lucky to have such amazing partners that are VERY worthy of that respect and admiration. In that sense it's …

Absolutely. I don't think that a lot of people understand bids for attention and see them for what they are. Cooking and cleaning are important, though-for some reason they get belittled, but what we are doing as homemakers is actually laying the foundation for our men's success. Without that in place, nothing really runs as smoothly as it should. Being agreeable, pleasant and trying to be as available as possible while you are at home conveys that openness to your mate. Just being easygoing and…

Sounds like a good idea! Just a reminder to make sure you find out his "love language" so that whatever you do to be considerate and make him feel important and valued, the intent is clear. I only point that out, because pre-RP I did things for him that I personally placed a lot of value on, but later found out that actually, what he placed value on was something completely different! (Incidentally it was gifts. I find little gifts to be amazing, but he doesn't care. His language is touch, so I …

That's the thing about RP. It's very rough going down. There are a lot of concepts that can be really painful truths, but when you work your way through the process and come out the other end-that's when you really GET it and can begin implementing it into your relationship. The fact that you put in the extra effort IS you utilizing your inherent female capabilities. This is about you doing YOU best and him doing HIM best. He should not have to be the one putting in the extra effort. That is our…

Hello! Glad that you found it helpful. I love getting new tips-sometimes there are things that we just don't think about it or forget. What sort of things have you started to change personally? Are you feeling a change in yourself after implenting them?

This sounds similar to how things work between my SO and I. I have been caught weeping at the end of movies and things, and he'll suddenly turn to me and do that, "Awwwwww" thing. The tone of his voice tells me he sees it mostly as a cute/girly thing, so it doesn't worry me. I also have cried in front of him when I've had doubts about our relationship or during serious relationship talks (very rare, of course) and that's a situation where I feel warranted in showing my emotions. Like you said, i…

It's interesting how individual we are about crying. My sister is what we refer to as a "watering pot" and can go from laughing to weeping to laughing in a 10 minute time span. We've all gotten used to it, and like your SO did with your knee-jerk reaction of crying, it becomes less of a mood killer. I have a friend who tells me her trigger is when she gets really angry and starts feeling loss of control and her temper coming on, she starts to cry/tear up!

That's actually a really good idea. I suffer from puffy eyes when I'm not getting enough sleep or drinking too little water. I have used eye masks before that work really well (I think Sephora had some great ones) so this trick might work well in a pinch!

Great point. That's what we don't want, is making him suddenly feel like he's in a "situation" and he has to "deal with you". I agree, the important thing is not to drag him into it if at all possible.

I'm not a crier, but when I do, I will almost always try to do it in private. I don't doubt that he can handle it, or that he will suspect that I am trying to manipulate him since I rarely do it. For me it's more about sparing him the outburst if it's appropriate. To OP: It sounds like you have a good handle on the situation. It's not strange or abnormal that he hasn't cried in years (to your knowledge). I think the main thing to think about here is the general attitude and disposition you carry…

That's awesome that you were able to gain that insight here! Being agreeable and saying yes as often as possible to my SO has actually made me a more peaceful person. It doesn't mean I'm a robot, but it means that I am deterring a whole lot of easily avoidable conflict when I can be pleasant and gracious first, and shelve the impulsive comments. I'd also like to add that one of the most valuable things you can give a child is being PRESENT and being ATTENTIVE. I think a lot of parents often thin…

Yes, I definitely try to let him dictate the alone time. If he goes into his office then I usually just step back and leave him be, maybe check in after an hour or two to see if he needs snacks or anything, but I know that time is gold so I try not to get in the way of it.

Ah, that's a great idea with little things he might appreciate. I think I might make a little list of those on my phone notepad, so I can refer back to it and grab ideas from that!

This lady gets it!! Hehe :) That is such a great point about how much clean spaces alleviate stress. I just wish he would let me clean his man cave (lol!) But that's his space, he has "his system"...I also love the idea of using some spices to make the house smell inviting. We try to watch our weight so using cinammon and vanilla has the same effect as cookies without the temptation ;) I agree so much about not burning yourself out. If we don't take care of ourselves, we aren't going to have the…

Exactly. My SO almost pushes me to take up hobbies and do things for myself, alone. He offers to help me in any way he can to facilitate that. He wants me to be happy in whatever I choose to do, and makes a point of making sure that I have what I need from him to do that!

I think this subreddit is awesome. I'm disappointed that it is fodder for ridicule and constant criticism, but when you look past that, you find women that believe in the importance of the patriarchy. Women that believe in the value of femininity, and strive to embrace the captain/first mate dynamic. My SO is FAR from a slave driver. He is INCREDIBLY competent. He is a very independent man, raised with a nurturing and strong mother, and certainly does not NEED me to do anything for him. I NEVER …

I'm an SAHM as well, which is why this is a bit difficult, but hopefully it won't be a long term/frequent occurrence! I love the note idea, that's so cute! :)

Adding to the praise for butter, last year I actually cut a small hole in the outer skin, stuck my hand inside and slathered butter all over inside over the meat. Wow, that made such a difference. I believe I read about this trick from Jamie Oliver, and everyone commented how good the meat was, as opposed to being too dry. Also-roasting rack! They aren't expensive, and it gave such a good result, not having to worry about it sticking to the pan. I may be late to the party, but I also plan on sif…

That is wonderful! I love the enthusiastic, positive tone as well-really encouraging feminity in a fun and informative way. Books like these are fantastic for helping girls nurture and grow those innate skills already from a young age. What better time to learn about the rewarding nature of embracing their femininity!

I really appreciated these insights. It's the nuances in RPW that I'm learning from this sub and in these posts, and something I actually touched on in my first post. For example, my SO does like a natural look and actually prefers me in casual clothing. In his words it's a reminder that I'm comfortable with myself and trust him without having to doll myself up. He certainly appreciates me dressed up but I often get compliments just for no reason I can discern-he just thought I looked nice that …

This was my reaction as well. I have been alternately horrified, disgusted and furious over the backlash over his shirt. Unbelievable. His accomplishments are so unfathomable and inspirational that it pains me the focus is on anything but that. Leave it to that infallible feminist logic to find literally any agenda to appropriate at their whim!

Great question! He's doing for me what he's always been doing-being supportive, enabling me to pursue my interests whatever they may be, taking care of me in the way he does best! He was never really the one who had the problems in the first place. (Not that he is perfect!) The problems he did have (overeating, lack of direction) he overcame out of his own willpower and determination. (I like to think my support helped him too :) We are very much team players! Thing is, he never stopped doing hi…

Thanks! Well, the first thing I noticed was that when I started giving him more space, his mood started improving. That caused me to gain more awareness about my ability to affect things by my own behavior and controlling my emotions. I started experimenting with self discipline and curing some of my lazier behaviors. He started becoming less moody, generally happier, more spontaneous, more energetic! I started feeling better about myself and even proud because I felt I was succeeding at taking …

Well, thank you. I just wanted to poke my head out with this first post. I did spend time doing some background work reading a lot both here and some of the recommended links, and felt motivated to post now and get to know the community better!

Yay! Happy to hear it. I am new here and still learning the ropes of the subreddit, but I'm incredibly happy to find this community. My main goal of posting was to share some of my thoughts with everyone, perhaps get some feedback if I was doing anything wrong, and maybe even point out something new. I know how much it meant to me finding posts with very concrete advice and tips!

Sorry to hear that-I spent a lot of time reading through a lot of the posts here, and especially the posts about personal tips have been very helpful to me personally. I might have to go back and edit it to include more of my personal story!
