If shes hiding it, its pretty obvious the kids have already met him. You have every right to know something about him. To you this guy is a stranger and around your daughters. You do have the right to set boundaries. For example, if he allowed to discipline your kids? Is he allowed to pick them up from school and attend important school related events? You have every right to voice your concerns and your opinions and set boundaries related to your kids. My ex has been dating someone since Feb, a…

Biggest tip. Move out as soon as you can and distance yourself from any of this that might trigger you.

I don’t even hang out with those so called fools. I distanced myself from all of it. Nice to my ex and that’s it. My priority is my son and that’s that. Best thing I ever did. You don’t need the drama in your life. Focus on yourself and your kids, if you have any

If she’s anything like my ex she’s toxic. Stay away or proceed with caution

Women are much more highly emotional creatures compared to us men, hence their reactions seem way over the top to us. They also love to share very little detail with the female friends. While men divulge only what they need to. So women get tons of unsolicited advice from friends and not actual professionals or people with some level headedness

Out of curiosity. The guys who aren’t friends with their ex. Was the split amicable? I mean, was it hard? I’m still friends with my ex. Our split was very amicable. We share a child so you need to keep things cordial for the child. I have ill feelings towards her. I haven’t moved on and nor do I have any feelings for her. I just realised I’ve grown so much from the separation. I’ve joined a man’s group and worked on myself with help from professionals and other men.

That’s great. Mine too is so happy being in the space with me. It’s so common when you move out you need need a big space. Just a space to put your head down and find yourself. Wishing you all the best

Second hinge, but also second that getting ghosted is a regular occurrence and I’ve found that the women on there don’t seem to really put much effort into it. You get out what you put in. I’m chatting to a girl on there now and we haven’t really made much traction at all. What I would say is, don’t pin your hopes and dreams on dating apps. Yes they age handy and super convenient but if you can meet someone the old fashioned way then use that. Join sporting groups etc

Good luck mate! I can sympathise with your emotions all over the place. It’s a bitter sweet feeling. That’s for sure. As you said, think of all the positives. Freedom, focusing on yourself more. If you lost some self confidence, in time that’ll return too. You got this. I’m rooting for you. Enjoy the solitude when can too. But also keep yourself busy. Appreciate the good memories you shared with your ex. Always when you feel you’ve moved on from your completely is the time l, should you choose t…

He could easily say hi. That’s being polite. Or make a joke about himself. That’s what I normally do. Then see their response.

Kids were the best thing that happened to me out of my marriage.

Hey mate, I admire thought and the courage to accept some self blame. But in a marriage between two people there is never one person entirely at fault. It takes two. You’re a great father to admit your mistakes and express your love for your children. That’s a step in the right direction. I Hope your health gets better soon and you are able to take the time for self care and that some good luck comes your way. Which I’m sure it will. Take the small wins in life anyway you can.

Do you have any kids? I guess when divorce happens your family can morph into something else. You and your children. Make that your happy family. I know it won’t have the wife part but make it your own. Own it and be happy with it. That’s what I’ll do doing with my son, I will always have a connection with his mother but I don’t intend on naming her as family once the divorce is finalised. It’ll be me and him.

First of all I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Your weekly check in sounded good if your both on the same page which clearly she wasn’t and with her being fine with it was a lie. I hope you can move forward at your own pace and surround yourself with loved ones and friends as you will need it. Cry if you have to. Grieve it. It’s good for you. Seek therapy too. Will help to process things

I said maybe he is in love. Can I answer that question? No. Only he can. Then I went on to mention my story. Don’t speak for all men please as we may not all share the same views as you.

All men are in love? Sounds like you’ve tainting all women with the same brush. Because my marriage failed i won’t think all women are a certain way. That’s narrow minded and potentially restricting you from meeting other people. But I also respect that if you want to be alone it is your choice too.

Sometimes love isn’t enough in relationships. It can be a good starting point but you also need respect, good communication, validation amoungst other things. I cant speak for other men in this sub and nor should you but I do know that I had many other issues in my marriage and love wasn’t enough to keep mine together.

Maybe he loves her. To want to get married. You can’t go into every relationship thinking about what advantage you might not have at the end. You need to take every relationship on its merits. Getting into a car and driving to work has its risks too. Do we walk to work? No, we drive.

You still love her because it wasn’t your idea to initiate the separation in the first place. As other guys have mentioned she already emotionally separated from you a while ago before you had ‘the talk’. Unlike you I was able to detach quite easy which made me question if I actually loved my wife in the first place and just loved the idea of a ‘family’ more. Give yourself time and go easy on yourself. Self care is important. Everyone handles these situations differently. I’m so sorry that your …

Your welcome. It’s hard out there. Men in general don’t have the same support network women generally do. It’s harder for us to open to our friends that our marriages have failed as society has taught us that if you’ve come from a failed marriage then you’re a failure. See it as an opportunity. An opportunity to do things you might never have been able to do for whatever reason. She might not have liked hiking or spending a tremendous amount of time in nature in my case. I’ve found being in natu…

Try meetup. There’s groups for people post divorce. Or people wanting to meet up for coffee etc. just search your interests. Have you got a good friendship group? If so reach out to friends. Are there any men’s groups in you area? Search google and find out. I joined men’s group and found out two guys in there had been through a separation. It is a big world out there but don’t feel isolated. Connect with friends, family. If you like any sports, try something just for the social aspect. Meetup c…

Amen to this. This is exactly the truth. I’m currently in therapy for nothing more than dealing with the issues and difficulties in my separation. It’s been invaluable

Be present for your son. Love your son. Be the best person and father you can be. You haven’t failed. I felt those feelings too when my marriage failed. But I also realised I was unhappy with my wife and I couldn’t be the best person I could be and when your not the best version of yourself then you can’t be the best father you can do. I’m about to move out, I’m nervous, I’m anxious but I know I’ll be much happier on my own. I’ll still have access to my son and he’s my world. Make him yours too.

Look obviously the sexual part of the relationship wasn’t as important to her as it was you. My ex and me were similar. I was 10 years her senior and she had a higher libido than me. She came from a relationship before me where she was highly sexually active. Having said that when people marry and have kids it is quite common for the bedroom to take a back seat to other things in life. Kids, work etc. I’m not saying this is a good thing, I think you need a balance. I can definitely relate to you…

M ex in laws had a WhatsApp group I was a part of of. I silently removed myself and was later messaged Ben ex father in law asking why, he knew my ex and I were separating. I just proceeded to tell him as part of my moving on process I felt I needed to remove myself from the group. If you have a good relationship with your in-laws you might want to have a conversation with them. If not you might not care if you never talk to them or not. I have nothing against my in laws and I think they are goo…

Find yourself a counseller too. It’s something you’ll need no matter what happens and whoever’s alt it is you’ll both be partly to blame so you’ll potentially need to work on something as she will. Your daughter will always be yours. Be the best parent you can be as I can see she means the world to you. Self care, self improvement are all important

You will mate. Have a good support network in place. Friends, family, whatever. Self care is important. If that’s working on your physique then so be it. Good luck mate!

The whole process will make you more resilient and comfortable in your own skin. It will alsp teach you what not to look for potentially in your next partner, should you be choose to be with someone else. Right now it’s hard to look at the positives but there are many. Just take the small wins. Day by day

Mate the things you’re saying and feeling are very common before things start to fall apart. No intimacy, communication break downs and misunderstandings. Better to call it quits before things get more harder around the house. Seems like you don’t want to work things through right?

I don’t think it’s up to us to tell others not to get married. It’s everyone’s choice and or perogative. What is our experience doesn’t mean someone will experience the same. I for one would always be happy if a friend of mine chose to get married. I would only give my opinion if they asked for it

Be social. Be active. Participate in a group sport or a men’s group. Do speed dating. Have you tried meetup? There are divorced groups in my area that do hiking and other things together where there are people of the opposite sex. I know it will never replace having someone at home to talk to or lie next to in bed but having that social connection can sometimes make it feel just a little less isolating.

Just be there to listen. Unless you have yourself been through a divorce there’s no real advice you can give. Be there for him. Listen to him. Sympathise with him and be a good friend. Check in with him regularly to see how his mental health is going. Make regular catch ups if you can. I found all of this really helpful as I am going through this at the moment. If you notice he is really struggling and acting out of character and maybe suffering spend time with him. You need to tell him he isn’t…

I think it could potentially be a good idea. If the dynamic between you guys is good enough so that it doesn’t impact the kids, ie, arguing in front of them etc I am going through something similar. When initially I just wanted out and felt I needed my own place to fully move on and be independent the current housing un affordability crisis here in Australia makes it sensible for me to stay put. Things might change down the track though but right now we get a long fine and family means everythin…

Mine is currently away overseas and one night my phone rung while I was asleep and it was my ex saying my son woke up saying he missed me and wanted to speak with me. We only spoke for 1/2 minutes (as he is 4 years old) but that moment, knowing he still misses me and still thinks of me made my heart sing and gave me such a self esteem boost. Because let’s face it, during these difficult times we can feel so low at points so these little unexpected pick me ups are the best. As the others have sai…
