I just want to gently point out that penalties for this type of crime are not remotely as intense in Germany as they are in the US. Germans largely apply zero to just a couple of years for this type of crime, whereas in many other countries (US included) you'll see penalties aligned more with attempted murder.

"Are they all boys?" she asks sympathetically. "Yes," I reply. "Poor you. Better luck next time," she says as she shuffles off after her dog. I grew up in a family of all girls. Everytime a stranger found this out, I received the same response: "Your poor father". I never really figured out why. My dad loved having a bunch of rowdy, sports-loving girls. The reaction this woman is getting to having a large number of sons is completely identical. It's just something to say. And it happens whether …

Men at the company I work for get six weeks. About 50% of the men take it right during the birth. About 50% wait until the women's two month maternity leave is up and take it then to help her get back into the workforce. All of this talk of 6-12 month maternity and paternity leaves are completely spinning my head. I can't imagine corporate America ever getting behind leaves of absences that long...

I agree that there is rampant sexism in the two places that you mentioned. Start-ups, during the dot com era especially, were sexually charged, fiscally irresponsible places to work. I enjoyed some harassment in that environment as well. But, to me, this was a cultural phenomenon unique to start-ups. I've had friends that worked for starter companies in different fields and they've had similar experiences. To me, it seems it has more to do with the casual environment, the potential for riches, a…

Awesome. Let's have a discussion. Tell me why.

I'm going to make the same case here that I did in the /r/technology thread. Disclaimer here: I am a woman who has worked for major software companies and now owns her own firm. I've been interested in this subject for a long time. First off, this is a terrible article. Not only is it biased, but it pretends like there haven't already been tons of studies done on this subject matter. Not really the best platform to leap from when discussing gender in the workplace. The question of why there aren…

I get the sarcasm. But there actually isn't a single person in the thread (or in the original one in /r/technology ) taking that position. In this case, the perceived "threat" you are mocking from the feminists just isn't there. Most women in tech acknowledge that there are inherent differences between the sexes that keep the male:female ratio low.

I work in an industry where women are still very poorly represented (<20% of employees are women). As a result, there are a lot of women-specific organizations and women-specific events trying to build a support network for women, brainstorm ways to educate/recruit more women, etc. Often these meetings include a dinner or an event of some sort. Men are not invited. Would you guys say in this context that this constitutes "discrimination"?

That's discrimination as well. Equal treatment. If he wants a manicure, he can have one - but that's the morale event being offered.

Do you personally condemn every German person living today of the Holocaust? Your logic is flawed.

A horrible, horrible tale. Dare I ask significance to men's rights? Young girls are impacted by this matter as well. More of a human rights issue suited for one of the main reddits.

I wouldn't take 18 years of ANYONES life and then start talking to him about fair. The fair comment was not addressed to him. It was addressed to this subreddit, which has posted this article to demonstrate another false rape charge allegation. Generally these stories belong in this subreddit because they demonstrate a valid prejudicial bias against men that is caused when a scheming, lying woman makes a false charge against him. However, this is not the case in this scenario. The woman in quest…

Shouldn't you guys have something that is pro-male, rather than anti-female? I feel like you're really mixing your messages.

To be fair, this was not a false rape charge. The actual rapist was his brother, so it is most likely that this was a case of mistaken identity. While a very sad story, I would argue this particular case is not a men's rights issue. A human rights issue, certainly.

Just don't marry a psychopath. Seriously. It's pretty easy to figure out if a girl is capable of going apeshit on you before you get hitched.

My understanding is possession of child pron is illegal in Arkansas, regardless of how it came into your possession.

Sorry, FST. I know that you're trying really hard to make me out to be some sort of evil feminist with a male-hating agenda, but it just isn't so, and this hardly proves your case. You're still completely missing the point of the context of my posting. Here's what happened: --Reddit is regularly full of misogynistic comments about bad female drivers. --Some data came out refuting this stereotype. --I posted an article to the women subreddit reviewing this data. The fact is, if I had wanted to sc…

Hm. No. Do you even read the news? Just because you are religious or conservative does NOT mean that you are faithful. I can't count the number of prominent religious leaders that have been involved in sex scandals just in the last year. And just because you aren't religious doesn't mean you don't have family values. My husband and I aren't religious. But our family is the center of our lives. Everything we do is about making our family better and trying to carve out a peaceful, loving nook in a…

Agreed. To be clear, it isn't just women advocating circumcision. I want our kids to be uncircumcised. I see no need to subject my child to unnecessary pain. My husband, however, has a visceral reaction to his kids being different than dad. He also believes circumcised men just look nicer. How am I supposed to convince him when I have no ground to stand on? He's the one with a penis, not me. Unfortunately, I think it qualifies him to make the decision... edit: I'm posing a serious question to a …

This is a weird article, but I agree with the sentiment of the headline. My husband probably has a deeper desire to have kids and build a family than I do.

My personal experience is that women are way worse. My mom lost control of her temper frequently when we were growing up. She liked to throw things. Usually at us. Sometimes with injuries attached. If that had been my father, child services would have been called long ago.

Not at all. It's the primary point, as pointed out by everybody in the thread and the article.

False rape charges should equal jail time. And this is speaking as a woman. Each one of those bitches that lies about being raped creates an atmosphere where real women (hell, and men) who are raped are treated as suspect. Not to mention the guy who goes to prison for doing nothing wrong.

Good. And I say that as a woman very sympathetic to rape victims. If she lied, she should be punished.
