I understand now. Unfortunately, you are right...

Exactly. But to the American Prison system repeat offenders are just a blank cheque of tax payer dollars.

According to wikipedia, the US spends less than 1% of its massive prison spending on rehabilitation programs. ...Those underfunded programs have a very high success rate and prisoners tend to take advantage of them when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, prisons in America are for profit above all else, and for-punishment prisons are the most profitable (at the cost of tax payer dollars) That's why America likes keeping its criminals committing crime. It's the same as Big Pharma not wanting t…

I guess your comment was redundant by association, since you were commenting on a redundant comment.... Thanks for defending my position thoug. I'm always surprised by reddit's vigilante mentality of "rape and murder the rapists and murderers"... It gets us nowhere. Most of the responses and messages im getting simply say "you're an idiot", instead of offering an alternative argument for for-punishment prisons.

The USA is really bad at rehabilitation... That's why they have one of the least successful prison systems in the first world.

Yes. That is exactly what I meant. Prison should be for rehabilitating criminals back into contributing members of society. Reddit has this horrible habit of having knee jerk reactions to certain crimes. Falsely accusing someone of sexual assault is horrible, but to suggest that she should be beaten to death or jailed for life is insane. She should be jailed for a short time and taught why what she did was wrong. Then she can hopefully go back to being a contributing member of society instead of…

People in this comment chain are calling for her to be savagely beaten and locked up for life... Prison is supposed to be for rehabilitation, not punishment. edit: Prison should be for rehabilitation..

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
