I was asking if there was some larger, overwhelming trend. Of course, there are individual people who are needlessly unpleasant. That goes without saying. If a stranger rejecting your advances (however rudely) bothers you that much, then cold approaches are not a good idea. Wanting to approach a stranger may not make you a bad person, but that’s beside the point. Socially adept people can make it work; socially awkward people really should do things differently.

Yes, some women are mean sometimes. What exactly is your point, here? Is that really all this discussion is about? Some of that “prohibitive advice” is really good advice. It really is a bad idea to cold approach someone in the parking lot of a bar- even a guy might reasonably assume you’re trying to mug them or something. Explaining to someone how their behavior might make others feel uncomfortable is hardly the same as “shaming” someone. Forgive me if this is a bit off-topic, but why do these …

I was being hyperbolic. Either way, my question is still valid. Who’s being shamed, and by whom, for simply approaching?

I’ll be straight with you: I want an actual example of women’s supposedly unreasonable standards causing social problems. So far, all the examples are the result of absurdly patriarchal societies not knowing when to let up.

Is there really an overwhelming trend of men being shamed for just being awkward? Like, people keep acting like you’ll be arrested for just saying hi to someone, and that seems completely contrary to actual reality.

There are men who are poor, boring, and goofy-looking (at best) who still get women. No, they don’t get as many women, and they’re too smart to have an army of bastards, but they aren’t alone and doomed. I just haven’t seen any real proof backing up this narrative.

I think it’s worth mentioning that some republicans are anti-contraceptives, on top of being anti-abortion and anti-sex ed. And this isn’t even just about women’s rights; some cons want to get rid of gay marriage. A number of our Supreme Court justices have ties to evangelical organizations that have very extreme views. There are absolutely dangerous ideologues trying to reshape society in a way that would absolutely fuck over a great deal of people. Too many complacent people seem unaware (or p…

I’m not accusing you of anything, but couldn’t this be considered misandry? The idea that men need extra attention or they’ll be lost, seems remarkably infantalizing.

I feel bad using the word “trashy” to describe poor people, even poor people who make questionable choices. But I’ve spent so much of my life around poor, trashy men thoughtlessly knocking up poor, trashy women, and birthing broods of poor, trashy kids who continue the cycle. I have never seen a genuinely poor men go unpaired because he was poor. What I have seen is middle class men shoot out of their league and then assume that their problem is a lack of extreme wealth.

Your first paragraph simply restates my point. Most women have always had shitty jobs, in some way or another. The only difference between now and then, is that it’s easier for women to have high-status careers. Women who want to be doctors, lawyers, rich business bitches, or powerful politicians would probably want those things regardless, because they have their own personal dreams and aspirations. As a working-class woman who has a job I hate, I don’t see any viable alternatives to my situati…

This is primarily an economic issue. Yes, poor people who have little hope of moving up the ladder will become (understandably) upset and maybe even violent. I don’t see this as an issue caused by people not finding partners.

Are you playing stupid? In many places, women actually having a choice in how they live their lives is a very recent development. In some places - like Iran and Afghanistan-things are actively regressing. Right now, people are dying fighting for women’s rights. Women are afraid of having their rights taken away, and this makes us defensive. You must understand this.

Most of the women who have jobs that they hate have always had to work crappy jobs. Most women throughout history have either worked the land or been some kind of low-status servant (like poor woman who cook and clean, and take care of other people’s kids and the elderly), or had some kind of mundane clerical work (like my grandmother who was an accountant but also had six kids). Haven’t you ever seen images of dirt poor women in impoverished parts of Africa lugging around giant containers of wa…

Well, what causes married people to become wing nuts? Marjorie Taylor Greene was already married with kids before 2016 triggered something in her, and she became a hard-right weirdo seemingly out of nowhere.

What are you talking about? Poor people pair up too. There pairings may be more precarious, but then their entire lives are more precarious. Looking at my own parents and grandparents, the only change is people aren’t literally being forced to marry someone as a response to unwanted pregnancy. What’s more, I honestly think most of this fear-mongering about single men becoming dangerous is coming from a relatively small group of socially awkward middle class dudes who aren’t charismatic enough to…

What I’m trying to say here is that both the baby boom of last century and today’s falling birth rates were caused by modern medical technology (antibiotics and advanced contraceptives being the most obvious novelties). Even if I agreed with you, you can’t really put the genie back in the bottle. Even if modernity ended, we wouldn’t be returning to the medieval era. The natural world has been strip mined in pursuit of profit, and we can’t feed billions of people without large-scale agribusiness.

No, they were not saying that video games make boys sexist. The point of Sarkeesian’s critique was (and is) that pop culture (including video games) can help reinforce pre-existing sexist attitudes. You can like games while also disliking the common use of sexist tropes. I personally enjoy all sorts of problematic media, but I don’t take it personally when people call out the problematic stuff. I will never understand why so many people took it so personally; her videos were fairly tepid and ver…

Is it really “sick” that birth rates are not at replacement level? I would say that it’s sick that there are eight billion people on our planet. Either way, the Industrial Revolution allowed us to divorce ourselves from the tyranny of nature. There may be downsides to this development, but it’s not as if the world was a better, fairer place before this all happened.

Is there actual evidence of this? Even in more liberal societies, most people seem to pair up. Most women don’t seem to have particularly high standards.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/01/23 01:50 PM
15

The entire reason this discussion is happening is because people keep implying (or even outright stating) that men will become violent if they don’t all pair up with a woman. The idea that men need a woman in their life to placate them does make it seem like women are the prize.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/01/23 01:42 PM

Could a declining birth rate help prevent future violent crime and political instability? Apparently, major societal upset is often the result of “youth bulge,” a phenomenon of too few resources and too many young people. Doesn’t it stand to reason that a society with fewer young people will be more stable?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/01/23 01:33 PM
2

Isn’t this “youth bulge” a rather mundane economic problem? Too many young people, with too few resources to go around. What does that really have to do with people being single? Also, wouldn’t a declining birth rate help prevent or at least temper this issue?

I’m really not that interested in that clip you posted. I don’t think it proves that feminism is anti-women-being-nurturing. I don’t think the opinions of morning show hosts or random people on the internet represent the entirety of feminism, either. I don’t really understand the point of the rest of your post. You acknowledge that it’s risky for a woman to depend entirely on a man, and then just brush past that point. Yes, some women want to be stay at home moms. I know. What’s your point?

I don’t think she’s a doormat for feeding her children; I think she’s a doormat for getting her husband coffee at 4am. That’s not nurturing, that’s acting as a servant. Do you not see the difference? Woman do most of the shopping because they’re buying for the whole family, not just themselves. And yes, they have access to money, but that’s not the same as having their own money. That’s a potentially dangerous situation to be in. If her spouse dies or becomes abusive (or any number of things, re…

I like that you’re stepping back from “overt disdain” because you realized that that’s simply not true. About the wage gap discourse: money is power. You literally need it to survive. So yes, feminists want women to have money. Most modern feminists would like for parenting and home making to be recognized as the legitimate and essential work that it is. But since there’s no guaranteed direct way of profiting from that work, feminists want solid social safety nets to at least help. I also want t…
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 08:33 PM

Mere discussion of the wage gap hardly equates to “overt disdain” for nurturing women. Besides, most self-identified feminists are leftists, and support better maternity leave and better pay for teachers and caregivers. About your “mask-off” moment: yes, some women are critical of women who act subservient to a man, for much the same reason men clown on simps. Like, yes, people who act like a doormat will be made of. So what?

Why would a woman let a man lead, if he doesn’t provide? Like, why is he in charge?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 07:51 PM

I’m not sure. I guess it’s letting the man “lead” and just sort of trusting that he’s right all the time.

Feminism is a global movement. You said feminists have “overt disdain” for nurturing women. What are you talking about? Can you explain the “dog whistles” you’ve seen/heard? And do you think the people expressing these ideas represent most feminists?

“Expectations of wives’ homemaking” have not eroded. Women are expected to take on the lion’s share of domestic and parenting work, while making their own money. If a man’s unemployment leads to divorce, it’s probably because he’s literally just chilling out at home.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 06:35 PM

This isn’t a call out post. I’m asking which of these traits is preferable. Besides, plenty of posters here have accused women of only wanting equality when it suits them. While that may be true of some women, it is also true of some men. I do think it’s ridiculous to want a financially independent woman to submit to a man. It doesn’t matter; people want what they want.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 06:28 PM
10

It’s a straw man. While I’m sure there are individuals who occasionally say things that you interpret as anti-femininity , they hardly represent an entire global movement. To begin with, feminism is not a monolith. No movement is. But I don’t know of any particular school of feminist thought that puts down nurturing women. Where do these stereotypes come from? Who is actually saying these things?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 06:20 PM
16

Do you think RP men have a problem with black-and-white thinking? I also don’t want a partner that’s arrogant and argumentative, but I wouldn’t say I’m looking for submission. Like, why is it one extreme or another?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 06:12 PM
3

I actually really appreciate this reply, especially the idea that some words are misused sometimes. Which is why I do slightly disagree with the idea that “femininity” doesn’t have anything to do with appearance. That may be true for you, but I do think looking feminine is an important part of it, for RP men.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 06:08 PM

What is femininity, in this context? And how does it differ from submission?

Old school relationships - in which the woman plays a submissive role - arguably are a form of prostitution. Really, why would someone submit to someone else, if they’re financially equal? Unless it’s a kink thing, I’m not getting it. And what is true submission?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 05:44 PM
6

Is it possible that you have unusually good judgement, and that’s why she trusts you to call the shots? I have a hard time believing all the men who want submission have what it takes to be a good leader in their relationships.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 05:39 PM
26

I’ve never actually seen a disdain for nurturing women; more a disdain for the idea that all women should play a nurturing role, whether that works for her as an individual or not. It doesn’t exactly help that the cutthroat nature of our world makes it difficult to be both successful and gentle/ nurturing. But there definitely are feminists who celebrate and embrace nurturing women. These stereotypes are ridiculous.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 05:33 PM
8

To be honest, I’m still not entirely sure what submission (in a non-kink sense) is supposed to entail. It seems like dudes just wanting to boss someone around.

/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 05:11 PM

When they talk about submission, are they actually talking about superficial things like long hair and wearing dresses? I genuinely don’t understand how this submissive woman is supposed to behave, what this relationship looks like.

Do you have any insight as to why other men do prefer submission?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/22 05:02 PM

I’ll admit I can’t point to a specific person, but I sincerely doubt that these are two entirely separate groups. Pretty much everyone wants the best of both worlds, with none of the downsides.

If they conscripted women, those women would be sexually harassed and assaulted constantly.

Dude, most people split finances. No one has a problem with that. I don’t know why you’re pretending that men are expected to pay for everything. Even my grandmother kept a job, on top of having seven kids -and that was back in ‘70s and ‘80s. If guys like you and OP keep getting with women who want you to pay for everything, then it’s your own fault.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/22 09:00 PM

Haggling over finances while expecting submission is fucking ridiculous. I’ll admit I still don’t entirely understand what the fuck “submission” even means to you weirdos, but I can’t fathom wanting to submit to someone who can’t even provide for me.

Could you define “submissive,” and how it produces good outcomes for women?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/22 03:14 AM

I don’t think you understood me. I was asking if you have to personally be interested in someone for you to consider them good, not if you want your partners to be good for/to you. Discussion on this sub is difficult. I use the word “good” to describe a good person, regardless of whether I’d want to date them.

Genuine question: would you consider FDS chicks to be man-haters? Keep in mind, what you said about good women is similar to what they say about High Value Men.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/22 02:52 AM

This is like FDS users saying they like and respect HVM - it’s not their fault that so few men are “high value” enough for their liking. Like, why not just admit that you’re a bigot?

Then why use the word, “excuse?”
/r/PurplePillDebate30/05/22 01:41 PM

“Excuse?” No excuse necessary. People don’t have to have children. If you want the supposedly perfect happy families other places have, either move over there or invite them over here.

/r/PurplePillDebate11/04/22 02:24 PM

Personally, I don’t do any of them because I’m not dating. But most women do everything men do, on top of being their partner’s therapist (because a lot of men don’t understand that unloading all of your emotional baggage onto one person is asking a lot from them), risking pregnancy, having fewer orgasms, etc. Workjng women are still expected to spend more time on childcare and domestic duties.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 09:21 PM
19

No, I can pretty easily separate it from the rest of the package. A man can want a well-groomed woman without necessarily wanting her kept barefoot and pregnant, and a woman can want to be treated every so often without going full 1950’s. Most people are not this all-or-nothing. Even back in the day, things were not this cartoonishly simplistic.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 09:00 PM
2

Do you make the conscious choice to “fit in?” Like, do certain things come naturally, or do you feel obligated to conform? Do you try to meet expectations because it makes life simpler, or because it seems silly not to? Do you judge people for not caring about these expectations? I’m genuinely curious.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 08:48 PM
2

Who said anything about being a “top earner?”
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 08:31 PM

The male equivalent to a SAHM is someone providing for his wife and kids for the rest of his life. Paying for the occasional date is absolutely nothing in comparison.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 08:29 PM
6

There’s far more pressure for women to groom themselves than for men to work out. Gym bros don’t really represent a majority of men. But let’s pretend that most men were in great physical shape: bulky muscles are noticed and respected in a way that hairless legs and pits aren’t. A lot of women’s grooming is taken for guaranteed and invisible. Beauty work isn’t considered real work the way lifting is.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 08:24 PM
1

How was I being “difficult?” I just think that some people aren’t aware of how much grooming is expected of women. I still think people are allowed to have whatever preferences they like. And it’s cool that you put effort into your appearance.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 08:15 PM
3

You’re welcome.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 07:24 PM
2

Does this apply to non-physical things as well? What’s the female version of the guy who spends all his off-time listening to podcasts? Do you think that there are “masculine” and “feminine” versions of financial and/or educational success? Would my male equivalent be the same age as me or older (since femininity is so often assumed to be youthful, whereas masculinity is allowed to age).
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 07:23 PM
6

Well, more defined pectoral muscles can make tits look bigger and perkier.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 07:12 PM
1

At that point, it would more sense to say you’re for traditional gender roles (at least in your own relationships). Gender-flipping is more complicated when you’re not trad.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 07:10 PM
8

Having body hair doesn’t necessarily make you look like a man. I have wide hips, big tits, and soft facial features. I also have hairy legs, hairy pits, and even the occasional weirdly long whisker poking out of my chin. I look like a woman.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 07:02 PM
1

What does gender-flipped mean, then? If someone asks me if I would date the male version of myself, should I answer “yes” even though I imagine my male equivalent being taller and stronger than most men?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 06:58 PM
6

So men don’t actually want to date their FE; they just think they do.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 06:54 PM
21

Does this mean that most women’s male equivalent would pay for dates?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 06:44 PM
5

Im not discussing what women want. I want to know if men would still be attracted to their FE if she was as hairy as them.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 06:42 PM
4

I don’t trim my armpits (let alone shave them). I just picked a strand of hair from my right pit, and I’d estimate it was a little over two inches long. You’d be okay with a woman being that hairy?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/22 06:36 PM
16

Do you consider it unhygienic for people (including men) to have hairy legs or armpits? For that matter, what about chest hair, unibrows, or hairy forearms?

Are you being deliberately obtuse? We should care for those that are already here. I oppose murder for the same reason I oppose birth: it’s ultimate denial of another human’s autonomy. Opposing propagation is not the same as wanting to harm people.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/09/21 01:21 PM

There is no “system.” Nature is brutal, but modern civilization is based on the violent exploitation of lower classes. Why continue this shit show? Basically, I’m in favor of voluntary human extinction.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/09/21 01:00 PM
2

“Devoting a huge amount of time and resources on another human being” would be quite admirable if we were discussing the elderly, homeless, or other people’s unwanted children. Deliberately creating new people is the most profoundly egotistical thing someone could do. We can’t even properly care for all the people already here, why make more?
/r/PurplePillDebate30/09/21 12:34 PM

Not everyone cares about “fun.” Some of us realize that creating new life is an incredible gamble - even if you seemingly have everything figured out, things could always go south. No one asks to be born, and it’s inherently selfish to have children just because you can’t find meaning elsewhere.

They’ve spent over two decades portraying apathetic centrism as the only sane stance. They compared being trans to wanting to become a dolphin. They made fun of Al Gore’s climate change fears with that man bear pig bullshit (I’m aware they recently apologized for this, but it doesn’t change the fact that they were willfully ignorant for so damn long). Yeah, they occasionally get some things right, but then a stopped clock is always right twice a day. I’m tired of people acting like South Park is…

When people talk about “toxic masculinity,” this is what they’re talking about. (Not that it should really matter, but I’m actually a woman.) Major depression can’t be reasoned away. Even with meds and therapy, it’s basically something you live with forever. It may be difficult to understand if you don’t personally experience it.

I don’t expect the world to be fair. That’s part of why I’m depressed.

The words “pussy pass” are grotesquely objectifying and misogynistic to begin with. People who complain about FDS calling guys “scrotes” and then make excuses for pussypassdenied are hypocrites. The language alone is horrifying.

What are the possible risks you’re talking about? “Block and delete” is their favorite catchphrase. They just cut men out of their lives.

Fixating on the pressure men experience, while ignoring the scary shit woman have to deal with, is ridiculous. Also, no one is forcing you to do this shit. If getting laid requires all this god-forsaken “effort,” that’s your issue. Either the sex is worth it or it’s not. If it’s not worth it, stop pursuing it. If it is worth it, then there’s nothing to complain about.

Being the “receiving party” is dangerous in a way that you’ll never understand. Bad sex can land you in the hospital.

“Amoral” is not the same as immoral. I also think sex work is amoral. I also think decrim is the way to go.

What are you talking about? Third wave, “sex-positive” feminists are supportive of sex workers and want decriminalization. So does Amnesty International, which is a major human rights organization that supports feminism. Yes, there are radical feminists who oppose this, but they’re not very mainstream. The continuing stigmatization of sex work is largely owed to a mixture of puritanical nonsense and cultural inertia.

Having a child is the most narcissistic thing a person can do. There’s literally no reason to bring new people into the world, other than simply wanting to do so.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
