Were you on a high school sports team (especially lacrosse, wrestling, or football), in a fraternity, or in the military? There's a lot of hazing out there that qualifies as sexual assault, even if the perpetrator didn't intend for it to be sexual and victims don't perceive it that way. I have no firsthand knowledge of it, but the theater and band crowds report similar problems with crotch-grabbing and exposing. Nope. I don't know the exact number, but those are the bounds of what seems possible to me. 1/500 would be possible if the people I'd met were not a representative sample, and 1/10,000 would be approximately the lower limit where nobody would give a shit.

Odds are, anyone trying to measure the percentage of transgendered people is trying to inflate the number for political reasons. I'd wager 1/500 might be more accurate, or 1/10,000. It's too political (and too rare) to get a real statistic.
