You are essentially standing over a landmine. Making double with over 10 years married in CA, especially in LA, expect to pay the maximum and then some. CA does give lifetime alimony, and despite any calculator a judge can order whatever they want, up to and above your income if they feel you can pay it. Female judge wrote the opinion and tried to give her LIFETIME alimony at 53k/month. Appeals court "leaned heavily" on the trial court opinion (as is the norm) as they do not want to correct their lower court colleagues. But this is absolutely disgusting.

Credit to the judge for actually sending her to prison and not county, though I highly doubt that if it were a man it would only be a 2 year sentence, with the entirety of the pre-sentencing out on bail.

You’re in deep and Illinois hates men when it comes to divorce. You’re going to be in a seriously uphill battle if you don’t prepare. This is very familiar but I do not remember the source. If you can find it send it my way or reply. If you delve into the fathers rights community you find stories like this over and over, but you never, ever see it covered in the media. There’s often clear factors like in the case you describe, but they get left out of the narrative.

But what it appears is that he was a child support payor working two jobs who was recently left with no income, but the same liabilities. Most don't know until they get divorced and find themselves losing everything. It is the law (passed by Ford, amended by Clinton) that pays the states directly based on how much support they collect (money is taken out of Social Security YOU pay into).
