This is totally the thing to do. I have done the list and maintained it for over 3 years always adding and/or removing things. E.g. when I met a girl and liked something about her a lot, I'd write down that. Sometimes when I met a girl and something was a total turn off and a deal breaker, I'd write that down as well. This has helped me when I did indeed met the right girl to identify her.
