Answer: No. I don't know why people don't hire someone to do a background investigation on a potential spouse? I'd want to know exactly who I'm marrying. Criminal record? Previous marriages? Debt? He would go to court and argue and get continuations to "gather more evidence" and would hope the cop would miss the next court date and he could get the ticket thrown out. Surpisingly, this strategy actually worked more than it should have. With an arrestable offense, refusing to sign means you are resisting and they take you to jail, arraign you, and you have to post bail or get ROR from a judge or stay in jail until your court date. I personally believe mind altering chemicals are wrong and should be eschewed unless medically necessary. But I do not think 45 year sentences are appropriate.
