Acne is a western disease, much like heart disease and diabetes you don't see it in other parts of the world. I had pretty terrible acne >and when I changed my diet from vegetarian, high glycemic grain based to low glycemic (aka low carb) high lean protein and tons of veggies, my acne disappeared. How is a vegetarian high starch diet a "western diet" and a high protein diet a "non-western diet?"

You're attitude towards your health, and in general, seems to be a cut above these other ladies. If you can, get rid of them as soon as possible! I loathe most social media, but the one good thing about the many healthy eating accounts that form a part of the 'instagram generation' and the many is the increased acceptance for unconventional diets amongst teens and 20-somethings. I've also been fully vegan for a year and a half now - for purely health reasons. Have no regrets at all in terms of m…

In conclusion: Is the tax stupid? Yes. Does it deserve this much media attention? No. Pretty much. I made this post just because other people around me keep bringing it up, so the topic kept popping up in my head and I couldn't be bothered to devote the thinking time to reasoning it out on my own. I struggle to see how a whole bunch of women be passionate enough so as to actually go out and protest the issue.

Totally agree. I have had relatively little desire for a long conversation by text with a close friend. People used to get puzzled when I told them that I hadn't seen their text because my phone has been off for three days. and I am a first year in university - the ultimate hotbed of the iPhone addiction!

I've seen many people that have benefitted from high fat so I have no vendetta against it. Out of curiosity, do high fat-ers use fried food as a staple part of their diet? Surely the sautéing process makes the food 'processes' and therefore not especially adherent to the paleo philosophy? I don't know much about it so I'd be interested to know anyone's thoughts.

I also don't eat dairy, but when I do smoothies I do really large ones - otherwise it definitely won't fill you up - something like 500-600 calories is what I do (but I don't restrict my fruit intake ever so if you are doing low cal then stick to the stodgier oats). I do eat fried food, but [if I did adhere to the 5 a day rule] I wouldn't count fried veg as one portion. With the exception, perhaps, of lightly fried things like carrot in a stir fry.

Looking at some of these replies, I struggle to see how roasting or sautéing in oil (i.e. frying), adding cheese or bacon (?!) or making kale chips (i.e. fried to a crisp) is a sensible and healthy way to eat more vegetables. Green smoothies are definitely the way to go for breakfast instead of fried food. If you already eat a healthy dinner (i.e a carb such as potatoes) and protein such as meat or lentils then adding steamed carrots/broccoli/cauliflower on the side OR aubergine/courgette to coo…
