"Here's an opinion. Now I present a vague fact followed by some judgement...really? I submit my disapproval overtly, inviting others to agree with me, before I tell you how it seems to me. I offer insincere passive aggressive advice."

"I like this, btw I have a criticism? Now I tease that criticism without counting to 153. I deem this ridiculous, and I hate Justin Trudeau."

How is this at all constructive?

Giving credit where credit is due has nothing to do with HOW much credit is due. Seriously? They should have protested it more? Comparative thinking is useless.

Rarely do two sides begin the debate from the common middle ground. If both sides started there, why would they fight in the first place?

As with everything in this field it comes down to the specifics. If we're talking about the field of concrete grinding or some other job that would be more suited for an upper body strengthed individual then a lot of people would say that women do not have "access" to this job. Sure, they could apply and get the job if they were the most qualified but the real lack of "access" is that the industry is not open to women and that there would be endless harrasment and berating and mocking. I don't b…

Connection and empathy classes for everyone. Leading to happier lives and more humane living where the focus is not rape orientated. Keep it positive because we shouldn't say "don't do this" we should say "rather, do this."

I joined CAFE over the issue of them being denied. Nice to see they managed to get in front of a lot of public eyes, even if they end up getting blackballed by the organization that allowed them in.

I can not believe that you're the only one saying this after it being posted for 4 hours. 2 are expressly about girls. 1 involves a couple. The 2 involving a camera and a sunburn could easily be a girl as well. So could the drug enthusiast. This is not an attack on men in any way.

Think vs know. All I'm saying is that I've never even seen a trigger warning and where I went to school and had class with these professors, specifically in a lecture (a lot of these examples are from outside of class) it would be very unusual to hear a trigger warning and more so for it to be enough to stop the discussion.

Hadn't thought of that. It would be pretty shitty for bands to have to warn the audience "This song uses a b-chord!"

So once I've met someone I am supposed to accurately predict all of their future actions in any given situation?

I see now the jump that must be made and I don't really think any professor would be sympathetic to that kind of behavior. Can you imagine one person standing in a room of 300 and starting this discussion? Hah if I was the professor I'd kick them out in the same fashion as that famous prof who smashed some kids phone.

I agree with your first point but I still don't understand your second one. Like if my gf and I are watching a movie and she sees that warning she'll just turn off the TV? But that can't go down in a college, if you don't like it, leave. The education must go on!

I may be confused, but wouldn't a trigger warning at the beginning of a lecture that deals with sensitive issues be a bit like the "mature audiences" warning on tv-movies? It wouldn't shut it down, it says "hey jsyk this could not be for you...carry on."

It's just the worst. So cyclical. We mock them cuz they mocked us cuz we mocked them cuz they mocked us. Somebody has to stop the circle.

I agree. I think instead of laughing when a step is made to help women and it doesn't work, we should be taking steps of our own. Forwards not backwards.

I would really hate to answer you by simply saying "they don't." I can only speak from my own experience. I have never found myself in a situation where I was pursuing sex with a stranger non-mutually; if the thought crosses my mind and I start to act on it, I stay wary of the first sign she's not into it and I drop the idea and carry on with my life. There have been plenty of times my gf has told me "I don't want to have sex tonight" and so we fell asleep. And I have a strict rule of not going …

This is absolutely the way to go. It's unfortunate that this community is receiving so much attention that should be focused on the victims and their families. I don't want to follow the same plan; we need to take action and re-affirm our commitment to non-violent discourse.

THAT is a very good point. Language is fluid and it is a words usage or intended meaning by the speaker that truly defines it. The word nice used to mean a very different thing but as people's usage changed over time so to did the definition.

I like this post. I think abolishing that particular way of thinking would be good in the sense that there would be less rage when those girls become adults and realize that they have to make their own way; that nobody is going to coddle them thru life.

There's a word for something like this... Where you stand up for some sweeping statement that benefits everybody... Then it's narrowed to you exclusively and suddenly the idea doesn't sound so good... Then you continue on to explain why you meant it was ok but for the other gender... So you are happy to live in this state of work from one party helping everybody without actually contributing... You're not being sexist, it's good for them and pointless for you.

No it's not. That's the exact same thing. Assuming that this is a bad thing for a woman to do then the guy is just calling it how it is. Losing money in order to lose a bad person is unfortunate but sometimes required. The flip side would be "I divorced my wife and now I'm better off financially."
