We all learn some way or another. I've had nights where I focused too much on game, and not on fun. You just learn over time. Just take notes, and KNOW what you're doing wrong, and you will constantly improve. Eventually you WILL be able to work up to opening every set. I can't even do this yet, but I am now confident enough to open a huge majority of the sets I see. I started with one sets and can do up to three sets now, alone.

I think you're confusing being bold for ambitious. Petriomelony's response sums up what he is doing wrong best, and although he is trying to learn, he isn't focusing on the fact that he should be out having fun and giving value, not taking it.

Why not? With enough confidence, any opener works! You see girls actually looking bored having some drinks in a social setting? Introduce yourself! They will be glad you did. The worst that can happen is what happened to me. Fucking blow through that shit like the bad ass you are!

Don't worry man, I had shit confidence at once. Then I started going out and talking to women. You just get better at it, and success brings more confidence. You'll get it over time. I just found seddit last summer, so this is how far I have come ;)

I'm in the same position. I have only two friends who are outgoing and somewhat natural with women. Both either don't have money to go out, or busy half the time. Leaves me to go out alone.
