Was something about custody in the article? I didn’t see it.

Is anyone here married ? Just curious because it seems like a lot of speculation. I’m curious what married men would say about their own marriages.

Your homeboy Dave is just as complicit in the development of his kids as the mom. He didn’t fight for them? Sold them off for some money? Embarrassing. Sad the deck was stacked in her favor but this dude walked out on his kids. You can spin him as a victim all you want but he was also 40 and not fighting for any relationship with his kids. You can always make more money. Your role as a father is priceless. You can’t sell it off like debt. Gross.

What? Lol I am also a mom and I had the opposite experience. I wonder if it’s regional. I’m in a very liberal state. Women seem to default to whatever the dad wants to do. Which drives me nuts. I told my partner if I spent 9 mo growing a baby and as soon as it’s out someone chops part of it off it would be a dealbreaker.

Oh I fully agree and I’m anti circumcising 100% I guess I mean most men are doing the choosing on the behalf of their sons. So how do we get men to stop choosing to mutilate their sons ?
/r/MensRights15/06/23 03:27 AM

I guess how do we reconcile that with the fact that FGM is taboo on American culture ? How do we, as a society, make circumcision equally taboo? I think men should shame other men who do it, personally. I don’t see this as anything women have huge influence over I guess , though I’m happy to join on the picket line if y’all set it up.

I’ve posted this before but I don’t get why men don’t stand up and protest this more? Are you waiting for women to do it? What’s preventing men from protesting this? Most of the women in my life who got pregnant with a boy just say - whatever the dad wants to do is what we’ll do. I’ve literally never even heard of a case where a woman wanted to circumcise the son and the dad was opposed. Just curious about circumcision in a men’s rights sub. Men all have a right to not circumcise their sons, don…

The top two paragraphs - preach. Solidarity. I think there are people lucky enough to discuss suicide cavalierly in the abstract. For those of us downstream of the genetic gift, it influences all of our decisions. Some have to stay vigilant, and many won’t succeed. Your post is the one I’ve most closely resonated with my whole life. Am I suicidal? No. I love being alive. But do I own a gun? No. Why? Because I like being alive.

I love your message however I’ve studied this my whole life to stave it off for myself and prepare to be a parent. “While the environment has had an undeniable impact, evidence suggests that genetic factors play a significant role in suicide completion. “ https://uofuhealth.utah.edu/newsroom/news/2022/10/genetics-of-suicide-risk

Man the tone of this post is heartbreaking. My dad killed himself. No surprise. His mom offed herself when he was young. He found her body and put it on a wagon and pulled her to the hospital This was before 911 was invented (which was 1968 for those wondering- he was born in 1954, and was 7 in 1967 when this happened. Lovely family story passed down. ) In 1999 When he was 45 and I was 17 I was handed the mangled, bloody wallet my dad had slipped in his pocket for the last time, before he steppe…

Society didn’t say “it was a cry for help,” that one particular woman used that as a defense position in her court case. I didn’t see a single soul echoing or supporting that sentiment. I’m a women so go ahead and mash the down vote button but society is generally against all animal abusers. I read the headline as mocking the abuser- saying she’s claiming “cry for help” as an absurd defense for beating her own dog. The article says no one buys it and she pleads guilty and is jailed. This just seems like a stretch. Are you saying the natural outcome of women having equal rights as men is that women sexually exploit kids? That’s like saying people who fight for men’s rights must ultimately be fighting to sexually exploit kids, isn’t it ?

I think her issue is that the poor man you describe isn’t making money based in his skill, and neither is she. So she’s saying- skilled waiters are victims because the only thing that matters is attractiveness. So she’s saying, I, the skilled server, am a victim because if I present as ugly, my skills don’t earn my tips. I, the pretty girl who can wear pigtails, can capitalize on the fact that skilled servers aren’t compensated for their skills because I happen to have that going for me. Does th…

You seem to conflate the fact that women previously couldn’t work with the topic at hand- currently in the service industry women are valued more for being pretty/wearing pigtails. Ah no I was responding to the other person claim that she was hired based on her looks. Maybe you didn’t catch that! I’m an engineer, but I’ve also benefitted from my looks :). Doesn’t mean I don’t bring value. “As for what women should thing or feel , that’s totally meaningless” Huh. Would you feel the same if this w…

We’re back to the original issue I have with you post. She’s not saying the male gaze is her issue. She’s saying men literally compensate (tip) more based on looks, NOT skill. You seem to think bringing the idea that she was also HIRED based on her looks is helping your point, but it’s only helping hers. She probably was hired for her looks, because the larger system is based on trotting out pretty girls because that’s what men spend money on. Do you think women should cheerfully and mindless en…

I mean I trample in my own beliefs for money all the time. Do I think a 40 hour workweek is reasonable in this day and age? No, but I do it because that’s the paradigm I live in. My only other alternative is to try to lead a movement that redefines a workweek for a massive corporation and possibly the world. That’s not something I personally want to take on. So I work 40 hours even though I think the whole system of a corporate overlord dictating my actions is disgusting. In your world, since I’…

I feel like hypocrisy would be this Lady says: ”I am a feminist and I’ll fight for a meritocracy “ Lady does: wears pigtails But here we have Lady - it’s a shame we don’t live in a meritocracy, instead I have to wear pigtails to get tips. Lady does - wear pigtails. Like what exactly do you want her to do? What do you want feminists to do? What actions? I think I’m following you. I guess I’m asking you, if she does have that criticism for men, then what should her behavior be, in your opinion? It sounds to me like she’s saying - I see this behavior in men, but I don’t want to take up the mantle of feminism and protest and work to change it, so instead I will work within that paradigm. Does that make sense? (Also I’m enjoying this conversation and glad you’re not trying to use any more “your grasping at straws” put downs). I am a woman and I do …
/r/MensRights12/04/23 11:53 AM

Ok so she’s preaching that men are disgusting when they base their compensation on their attraction to women. How is she’s supposed to “practice” that ? She kind of is “practicing” that by dressing in a way that plays to the higher tips. So in that sense she is literally practicing what she’s preaching She’s preaching “men are disgusting because they base tips on pigtails” Then she practices : “wearing pigtails, receiving higher tips” I think she’s just articulating what she’s practicing.
/r/MensRights12/04/23 11:46 AM
-2

Didn’t you use inductive reasoning to categorize her as a pseudo feminist, or did she describe herself as that? How would she practice what she preaches? What did she preach? I’m not sure if she’s berating men (berating is to scold angrily). Sounds like she’s placing a value judgement in their behavior (“disgusting”) but leveraging their behavior to her advantage. If she berated them, she’s probably get fewer tips so that is strategically unsound.

OP is missing the part where the men tip more money to younger prettier girls. Sure men can have a sex drive and be attracted to whomever, but when the use that to influence how they compensate workers in society, we move away from a meritocracy (best service = highest tips) to a patriarchy (most pleasing to man’s horniness = highest tips ) She’s saying since she realizes the actual driver of tipping, she’ll just play to it because she wants or needs more money more than she cares to take on the…

No, I know many Mormons. I have been in their house witnessing a 50 year old woman having to ask her patriarch husband if she can accept a calling. This is mainstream basic mormonsism. It’s based on a patriarchy. They literally (ask your Mormon friends) refer to the husband as the patriarch of the house. Trust me I know Mormonism very well lol I’d actually be curious to know if any Mormon are on this sub.
/r/MensRights12/08/22 04:47 PM
3

That is not true. Mainstream Mormonism is a patriarchy. The man is literally the patriarch of the family. Women cannot hold certain leadership callings because they are women. If a woman gets a calling to have a role in the church, she must get permission from her husband before accepting the calling. When a newborn is blessed, only men can bless it, etc. Mormonism is literally a patriarchal society.
/r/MensRights12/08/22 01:09 PM

My subs? They’d say MR is my sub. I’ve actually been banned from some Subs just for subbing here lol. I hadn’t seen them be supportive of amber but that doesn’t mean some posts weren’t. both men and women complain about BC. Women don’t have a barrier method of protection, so they have to use hormonal disruptive- which yes obviously have side effects which they’re justified complaining about. Men use a barrier method which diminishes the sensation of sex so men complain about that. Let’s not get hysterical and pretend women are the only ones complaining about the use of birth control.

I’m just trying to understand what a protected class is and how it relates to the list (draft, lose custody). Like… race is a protected class yet I think a Black man (different race) faces those same challenges. So I’m trying to figure out what a protected class is in this instance.

Yep. If he didn’t circumcise his second son, he’s sending a message to the first that he made an irreversible mistake by having part of his penis sliced off, and he spared the brother from the penis slicing. So instead he had the second kid circumcised so there would be no reckoning. If it make you feel any better I actually do know another couple who had their first son circumcisized and then regretted it and didn’t have their second one circumcised.

Oh for sure. My friend and her bf had 3 kids together. First pregnant was planned but it was twins. Second pregnancy unplanned and he begged her to abort and she didn’t so now there’s 3. Anyway the relationship fell apart and now she lives in a nice house with her mom and her new boyfriend - she’s able to work plus collect his child support (she was previously a SAHM) Meanwhile, he also lives with his parents, and continues to work as he always did (same job in fact- construction) but now he pay…

Yeah. They do have a bit more of a struggle in that their body will show everyone they’re pregnant so they don’t have a choice in discreetly making the decision to not raise their kid. Their whole social network (family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc) will process the fact that they were pregnant then later not pregnant and yet there’s no baby (if she safe havens it). This essentially makes her a social pariah. Not saying it’s worse for women but that’s just another thing to be empathetic t…

Yep. He later had a second son and had that one cut too!! It was quite a struggle because he didn’t want to have one circumcised and the other not circumcised, worried about the lifelong impact of THAT on his kids. Facepalm.

Fair. That’s true. Thanks for the explanation. Thinking about this- I think there’s another option if “could I walk out of my kids life and just send child support” (which also sounds horrible)

Ok I meditated and held my breath for 13 minutes. and still am curious what FTM men should think of the quote that “if men could get pregnant” I’m guessing they’re thinking “I’m a man and I could actually right now get pregnant and be literally compelled to carry out the pregnancy thanks to this country” If you don’t want me to think of FTM men sorry but i have empathy for all. I’m not accusing the sub of anything. That’s the opposite of my experience. I’m a woman who used to be pro circumcision then a guy friend painstakingly got me to consider the anti view and now I’m rabidly anti. Many of my girlfriends have gotten pregnant over the past 10 years and I try to council them against circumcision and their reply is literally “I don’t have a penis, so I will defer to the dad on this” Aka they literally tell me “im carrying a boy in my womb but I don’t have a penis so I don’t have an opinion” This is very un…

I’m not pushing a belief. I thought FTM men were considered part of the fold here. Your rhetoric indicates otherwise. I’m just learning from you. I’m not confused. You seem to be very certain that sex is how people should be gendered. Trust me, i have 0 hope of changing your belief. I don’t think you are young enough to change your belief. I still support your rights and I hope you get some sleep soon.

I said they were forced to pump out babies. One way women are forced to get pregnant is rape, which is well documented throughout human history. I totally agree with the last sentence.
/r/MensRights16/07/22 06:06 AM

I agree with that but that could be a function of Rich NIMBYS. Also abortive can (well, could a few years ago) be performed by your OBGYN. I know lots of women who had a Abortions through Kaiser or whatever other hospital chain. That’s why I’m interested in actual data not just where “abortion clinics” are located.
/r/MensRights16/07/22 06:04 AM

I’m 39. I don’t use words like “troublemaker”. Are you 79? Reading you posts you seem extremely tied tot he idea that a biological sex is the identifier of how you gender people. That tracks with the rest of our comments and my estimate of your age. Night night gramps

I’m not an SJw. I am a mens right supporter and I thought FTM men were considered men here. Do you consider FTM men men as far as mens rights go? Simple question. The answer seems to be no, but I want to learn from you explicitly.

Ok so to you “man” and “woman” are chromosomal identifiers ? I am honestly trying to learn so please miss me with the derisive “don’t be silly” comments in an effort to try to make me look. Small. The concept of gender is not accepted in this forum, is that right?
/r/MensRights16/07/22 05:54 AM

What’s a troublemaker? I am a woman who advocates for mens rights. I thought FTM men were men. I didn’t realize this group didn’t accept them as men. I am currently calibrating to understand. I would like to learn why me thinking an FTM man is a man makes me a troublemaker (lol)? I support all Men and their rights but this group may only support biological XY chromosome men- is that right?
/r/MensRights16/07/22 05:53 AM

I upvoted you per reddiquette since you added to the discussion and I appreciate it. The thing that comes to kind is that- OPs quote literally describes conscripting men to pump out babies. This is already happening to women and ftm men. So- this concept is kind of the opposite of gender specific- if I understand correctly? No one should be forced to birth or support a kid they don’t want.
/r/MensRights16/07/22 05:47 AM
6

I get that. There’s a tiny subgroup of FTM men that could conceivably get pregnant tho ya? Edit : interesting that I’m downvoted. I genuinely did not know this group didn’t accept trans men into the fold. I find that pretty fascinating since trans men often report that after they transition they are treated worse by society.

Same. When I got pregnant I told my husband there was no way in hell our son would be circumcised. I was willing to end the partnership over it. Luckily we had a daughter and for some reason we only genitally mutilate boys in this culture.

Yes that’s why the doctors ask the parent if they want to step outside. My daughter was born with a tongue tie and had to have like a 1mm cut in that thing under the tongue she she could nurse. It was a hellish experience but I held her. They made both parents sit down because many will pass out just seeing their tiny baby in agony.

That’s definitely not the process in my state. Is this first hand info ? Here the process is- first you have to decide you want to, then you have to find a “provider” who will actually do it (many won’t in my state) then you have to make an appt for when the baby is a week or two old, then you go in, sign liability forms, and they strap the baby down in a starfish pattern on a steel table with leather straps around wrists and ankles. They ask the parents if they want to stay in room or not. Then…

I think it depends on the area. I’m in a blue state and most of my peers have been circumcised but they are choosing not to do that to their kids. Can someone comment on this? I am a woman and when we one of my friends gets pregnant I try to tell her not to circumcise (lovingly and patiently). but it seems like every woman I know say they’re not the one with a penis so they will default to the dads decision. So. I dunno. I don’t think women are pushing it? But could be because I’m in a culture t…

Yeah I was pretty disturbed by that. My husband and I actually had the opposite convo lol I was like- don’t you want a DNA test?! If OP wanted advice from both genders equally they would have posted in a relationship advice forum. The fact that there are women here doesn’t negate that fact that it’s a predominantly male perspective shared here. I didn’t judge his opinion on showing weakness but I will now- it’s a little odd to proclaim that you don’t want to show weakness to your woman so you ask if you can drink alone and not support your family- which could be seen as a weak move by a man. Have you had a baby? Just curio…

Hey trust me ive been grieving the loss of a parent. I am simply trying to explore her possible perspective. I grieve. Sometimes when my partner plays with my daughter I burst into tears and he has to comfort me. The loss of a parent is a scar that does not heal. All I’m saying is- she is also in a state of trauma and probably literally desperate for help. My suggestion was literally to find a way for both partners to get what they need. They both need a minute to feel supported by the other.

Awe that is sweet. So to everyone else’s point- is this a pattern of behavior or is she spazzing from desperation? What are you feeling about the relationship now after a few hours? I will say- I’m extremely sentimental. My partner is fucking amazing. I’m talking about- this year he’s planning a surprise bday party for me and flying all of my friends to an all inclusive. Interesting. As a woman, that sounds horrific. If I had a boyfriend who was abusive, and wound up pregnant, and wanted to no be tied to this guy the rest of my life, and now in addition to being forced to “gestate” this baby, lol he also now has some weird government lawful command to interface with me and “supportively” police my behavior as a gestation host for his baby, I would feel physically held hostage by both the person growing inside me as well as this now abusive person.

I think you’re conflating oppressions. You’re right that men had to toil- the lowest caste of people are always exploited by the ruling class. The issue is men had the option to work and have a family. To develop and contribute to society and therefore demonstrate a value to society with a skill set. Women’s value was “make babies and food” by default. That sucks. Sucks for the me. Toiling too.

My impression has been the acknowledgement that the “war on drugs” was really a war against black men, and it left a generation of single black women to raise babies. My point is I do think that the gender divide in arrests is well known, but I haven’t ever seen it put quite this way (emphasizing that women use drugs at the same rate men do). The post arose in large part because I observed something (lack of ambition in men) and i thought I'd open up a dialogue to see their perspective. That's all.

Hahha omg this is gold, thank you. I did happen to build health/status/wealth and I feel proud of myself for it (I think all should do it- male and female and whatever else!). The other alternative lol wtf. Pleasant personality, "healthy womb" (wh...... what's happening here), beauty... what is this even. I guess if you've relegated all people into these two subsets of characteristics, my comment won't do anything to change your mind. But fwiw I have always been attracted to men with pleasant Pe…

I fully agree with this and think "STEM" worship in general is highly off putting. Our society is just as in need of innovators, artists, educators, historians, philosophers, etc. the tapestry of civilization is much more rich than just the STEM acronym. I also think it's annoying that girls get the full gender spectrum range (girl gamers cute! ) and boys get the shit end of the stick (boy gamers = lazy) Perhaps it this messaging drilled into men today that saps them of their ambition.

I don't disagree with your thoughts about men being valued less in our society. I am a little confused by your post here, though. You say Ambition is impractical. Your next sentence seems to indicate that because there are no outreach programs and few scholarships for men. I'm not sure if that second sentence is meant to be an argument for the first. Can you explain the link between these two? It seems to say- "there's no practicality in ambition because there aren't socialized programs to help …

People could just let out a slow trickle down their leg and it would be incredibly difficult to collect into a sample. Also it's cruel and unusual as well

Why don't you hypothetically marry a reasonable woman (like myself) who is wiling to discuss all of this with you - then try to feel compassion and empathy for her, as she hopefully would for you? I'm a woman who makes about 4x what my partner makes- so I should theoretically be aligned with you on this. However, I make plenty to support both of us and if he ever wanted to be a "stay at home husband" we'd talk about all of the aspects of it - money, time, happiness, what the expectations of him …

Why don't you agree? Dd you discuss this before you got married?

The marriage is set up as a partnership. It's the prerogative if both partners to do as they wish, and of both together to make the system work. If, collectively, they decided that one partner is more valuable to the household as devoted household runner (no need or time to get job skills or a job) then that's a joint decision and is BOTH of their prerogatives.

I guess if a guy looked art an A on my exam and remarked "you are so-so at this subject" I would say "you are subpar at understanding what grades are meant to convey" or something. I still don't get that guy.

I guess I'm lucky I can't relate. My mom does microchip design for department of defense. No "housewife" goal was ever championed in my upbringing :) thanks for sharing. I'll go hug my mom now!

I'm a skinny tall blonde female power systems engineer. I've aced many an "engineering test" myself but never heard any feedback similar to what you're describing. I grew up in California which is a pretty liberal and progressive state. Wondering if geocultural influences are to be considered.

As a girl, I was praised constantly for my abilities in art and writing, despite being merely a C student in these areas, because that was a more feminine skill, and I was told i was "so so" at math, despite getting all As. Huh? Who was offering the praise and "so so" feedback? Are you sure it's because they're "feminine" traits? Could it be that people saw you struggling in those subjects and offered extra support ? I don't see how someone could look at your math test with an A on it then look …

I don't support the brand of feminism that undervalues the role of mothers home parenting their own kids. I was just trying to let OP know that he's not describing feminism. :).

You're not describing feminism. From Wikipedia "Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women.[1][2] ... Feminism is mainly focused on women's issues, but because feminism seeks gender equality, feminists argue that men's liberation is a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles." If anything, you're describing to OPPOSITE of feminism -something which would cast…
