I have interviewed hundreds of people for companies that pay +400k/yr for a highly productive C++ programmer. I have never interviewed a single female that made the cut. In 20 years. The only ones that broke into "the finals" were russians but even then they fell short on the field test where I would just ask to implement something on a laptop with linux. Not the case currently. But there were low times where I was seeking help in the wrong way, if you know what I mean. Divorce, loss of a job, we all pass by this sort of phase. That said, perhaps a better approach (than reaching out to other people and 1-800) would be to equip men with more robust tools to deal with these low points in life. I don't think it would be terribly difficult to come up with a short course on surviving suicide skills.

Well, technically if you harm someone it really does not matter if the person wants to press charges or not. It is the state against the perpetrator. What happens is that without the victim's deposition in many cases it is impossible to make a case so police just drops it. However, if there is evidence like in this video, the victim really does not (and should not) have a say. In the civil court though, the victim has a choice.
