That's not what financial abuse is. My mom will be this OP's aunt when my dad dies (inevitably before her). My dad would have loved for her to work, to have her own life and ambitions, but she just never wanted to because she "didn't have to". When he passes, she has a list of accounts they have detailed in their will which I've witnessed many times over. I'm sure I'll have to file taxes for her for his final LLC filings and that's that. I really don't feel sympathy for that sort after how hard …

I had a male roommate for a year and I only ever saw him eat if we ordered a pizza or wings together. If he got hungry any other time he would just eat a spoonful of peanut butter out of the huge jar on his desk.

As someone who has spent a ton of time in London over the last 30 years, it's not bad there for women in my experience. It feels super safe to me. Brits aren't as prone to cat calling or even long stares. I lived in France and it's a shit hole for us there, straight up sexual assault/groping/forced kissing. Where I lived in the US is more annoying than dangerous. Mostly just get guys at gas stations smiling asking how I am, I say "good thanks" and bolt before they can say anything else. Basicall…

My mom didn't work either, but still urged me not to make the same mistake as her. She ended up stuck with my dad after he cheated on her with his ex wife when we were young kids.

I feel super safe in my house, but most of my neighbors are retired and home all the time so that helps. I was initially put off by one neighbor who seemed really nosey, but one day I had an interview after work and got home a few hours later than normal and she asked "are you just getting home from work?" I realized then that if anything was off she'd be the first to notice and call police lol.

I also have a 4 bedroom house, my bedroom, dressing room, music room, and office/guest room. It's wonderful.

I got a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home, which is what I've always wanted just for myself. Got my bedroom, dressing room, music room, and a huge guest room/office. Every single thing is how I want it. The only push back I got was from my mom "well, it'd be a great rental for a family if you wanted to downsize!"

My mom did that, but just for me, not my older brother. This is quite a common dynamic.

I always assumed it was depicted this way because of some weird cultural standard. Not that sculptors were doing an accurate job. I've been to so many museums and archeological sites and never seen a normal peen.

Yeah I plugged it in the other day out of curiosity, and if I married a man who made the same income as me we would net an additional $700 a month!

You said in a comment you aren't in the US, so...probably no point. We get major tax breaks here for being married, and being covered on a spouse's health insurance. Which is an absurdity that doesn't exist in other developed countries.

My boyfriend, who I lived with at the time of major emergency surgery, wouldn't come visit me after work for 20 minutes while I recovered at my parents house for a couple weeks. But when I sent him innocent pictures of my stitches (lower abdomen) could only comment on how sexy I was. Absolutely nothing caring about how I was doing or wanting to see me. Broke up with that ass wipe real quick.

So this shit is why all the scrotes in my grad program said I was fucking the head of the department to get in. Nah, I was the top of his class and he wrote me a recommendation. This way of thought is sick for so many reasons, including weighing women in academia down.

I was in no way putting down Lily Allen, I love her! Just thought this lady was extremely talented and had a similar style of singing, it was a high compliment.

The "mentioned he wanted to have sex in the morning" thing really irks me. That's setting up an expectation for sex that put this poor vulnerable girl in deep anxiety.

As a nice Greek girl, I loved that movie growing up! I also liked how it showed a normal progression of dating. There was just a montage of him dropping her off after dinner. I actually liked the proposal too. I'm very low key and it seemed like a genuine intimate moment. He showed a ton of effort in pretty much every aspect of their relationship.

That's weird as shit. I got one speeding ticket over 10 years ago and it got tossed out in the court because the speed limit sign was covered by a tree branch. Not saying I'm some angel who never speeds - I do regularly, but reasonably and not dangerously above the limit. But basically every guy I dated in my 20's complained about having to fight a speeding ticket in a neighboring state after getting arrested for reckless driving, and if they didn't have that situation going on they had 1-2 DUIs…

I'm probably not alright since I barely acknowledge that happened, since I have no memory of it. But I also haven't had a real relationship since then, about 5 years ago so I might have some issues I need to work on :(

I lived with a boyfriend for about a year. I told him I was sad we never had sex anymore. He said "we have sex every night after you go to bed." What??? You mean after I take my sleep medication that I explicitly told you over the last two years makes me not remember anything and to never do anything (even text me) after 10pm?! But yeah, fucking me while I'm falling asleep is totally fine. Yes, I left right away.

I was walking my puppy in my new neighborhood and this guy said my pup was "really pretty" (duh) and I said thanks. Then after pausing he said "almost as pretty as his owner..." I was wearing baggy jeans, a huge coat, a mask, and large sunglasses. I just kept walking.

There ain't a shack made out of asbestos that's on fire going for 150k anywhere near my state. My 1,600 sq ft basic ass house was 370k. And I had to live with my abusive parents through my 20's to save for the downpayment. Rent here is even more than a mortgage so this was the only option I had to get myself into a safe situation long term.

I had a potentially fatal lung disease from age 14-19. Was told over and over by every specialist that I was just depressed, even though my main symptom was high fevers. Arrogant fucks just can't admit that they don't know what they don't know and get a sick satisfaction gaslighting young women. 10 years after I was finally (accidentally) diagnosed, I still having scarring on my lungs and have to have my eyes checked once a year because there's a good chance I can still go blind from walking aro…

I briefly lived with a LVM and how he treated his dog was awful. He had him for a year and NEVER once clipped his nails or gave him a bath. I did all that stuff and brushed out the matted hair behind his ears. I took him on daily walks around the neighborhood. Then the idiot was mad that his dog loved me more. Well yeah dude, you don't do anything to care for him! Miss that doggo.

I took me a long time to learn, but no one is here for you in life but yourself. You can't count on anyone for support. After coming that realization my depression and PTSD shifted away from existential anguish to doing small things every day to put one foot in front of the other.

This also made me feel sick. As a Greek woman, who has been asked "are you Jewish? It's the nose." It reeks of Borat's intentionally outlandish portrayal of racism against Jews assuming they all have "the Jew nose" while miming a large nose coming off their face and not believing old ladies were Jewish because they didn't have a huge nose.

I had a coworker whose wife packed him a healthy (and delicious) lunch every day, and she worked full time too. She did it because he was MASSIVE and had a severe auto immune disorder. He would eat a couple fast food meals throughout the day and then DUMP OUT his healthy lunch in the trash at work so he could tell her he ate it. She eventually took his credit cards and gave him a $20 weekly cash allowance for emergencies only to try to curb it. I WOULD NEVER put up with that shit.

I bought my first house recently and mowed the lawn for the first time in my life - growing up it was the one chore my brother had so I never did it. All I could think was "this is one of the few things men have to do and they bitch so much about it!" Like, it's easy, took 30 minutes and only needs to be done every couple weeks. I also live with chronic pain, but on the same day I mowed the lawn I took a trip to Home Goods and Home Depot, put together a few bookshelves, hung some pictures, cooke…

I was legit getting angry today at the fact that every disease/illness I've ever had took a MINIMUM of 5 years to diagnose. One took about 12 years - only diagnosed when that also almost killed me. When I was bleeding to death internally and the ER was like "you need emergency surgery" I was like "you fuckers sent me home immediately 6 times over the last 10 years for this pain."

I always found that ugly men treat me like an object and attractive men treat me like an equal human. It makes sense because in one scenario you are on different planes, and in the other you are on the same plane.

Ugh I remember being 5 or 6, going to sleep over at a new friend's house for the first time (all my other friends had single moms) and this friend had a step-dad. My mom very sternly warned me not to be in a room alone with him for even one second, and to scream if he touched me at all. I didn't sleep a wink that night, I was so freaked out. Never slept over there again. Her step-dad gave off creepy vibes too, maybe that's why my mom was so serious about it.

Ladies, I close on my first house today! I can't believe I did it on my own, especially in this market with crazy high property prices. I was so jealous of those couples with two incomes. But I guess I didn't have to blow money on a wedding or paying off a husband's student loan debt so here I am. I feel like I can finally start my adult life (at 30 lol). This gives me a lot of confidence. Was talking to a guy, he severely offended me, I told him it was severely offensive (actually said the word…

I actually look like my dad. Him and his dad are very classically good looking. There's a picture in my parents house of my grandpa in his Navy uniform when he was about 30, and he was dapper AF.

I'm 30 and been at my new job a couple months. I recently found out that all the guys in my position (I'm the only woman) are at most in their mid-30's! They look awful, I thought they were at least 10 years older than they are. I found out I went to high school with one of them, it was shocking to figure out because he used to be cute and in shape.

Give it some time. The first few weeks of my job were awkward as hell, no one was really talking to me or seemed interested in getting to know me. A few months in it's like I've been working there for years. You have to let those moments of connection occur naturally. Remember that it's awkward for them too having a new person in their environment. You'll all get to know each other, and don't feel like you can't be yourself.

The most loved I've ever felt was when my dad got me Bring It On and a 3 pack of kraft mac and cheese after I had my wisdom teeth out. He basically hid me in the basement to watch that and eat "that poison" (per my mom). My dad wasn't perfect but he tried.

My dad always got me DVDs from the bins too! And it was always stuff he knew I'd like. I always felt like it was his way of saying "I'm not judging you, here's a romantic comedy a young girl would like." And he would discretely leave it in my room. Yeah, my mom was psycho and would call me an idiot for watching anything 'girly.'

My dad did this, still does as much as he can. Not to avoid his kids, but his wife. He chose to marry a miserable woman. Then made his kids suffer being alone with her for months at a time while he was traveling all over Europe and Asia at any chance he got. And when he was home, he had a later work day. He's a "night owl" meaning he got up at 10am when we were already at school, and came home after 8pm after we already had dinner. Both my parents suck.

I have so many thirsty text chains like this. Every couple weeks I'll get a notification I have a text from "Jon" or another person I can't recognize. And I'll think, who the fuck is Jon? Open up the text and it's the same Jon who has been texting me for 6 years, and I never respond. I met him at a party and his friend gave him my number. Never shown any interest. But he's still always "thinking of me."

With all my down time I have now, got back on OLD and holy shit, men my age (30's) look ROUGH. Like, shockingly so. Meanwhile, I look pretty much the same as I did 10 years ago, with very little effort. It's like these men are poisoning themselves to look this bad.

I manage a construction company and half my day is spent listen to these men gossip and speculate about each other while I interally roll my eyes and occasionally say "maybe you're reading into things a bit too much." Meanwhile I'll be stone faced with an inspector screaming at me, waiting for him to tire himself out so I can say "ok, so how can we resolve this?" My boss calls me "ice."
