You make a reasonable argument. But a false rape accusation isn't always, and most of the time probably isn't, made on purpose. Traumatic events are hard for people to remember; in the case of rape problems with memory could lead people to remember things differently, and even then they can always mistake someone who 'looks like' the rapist as they remember for the actual rapist. Should there be a process to determine whether or not the victim--if he/she is one--made the allegation under the kno…

Well there are about five million more women than men in the U.S., and I think my statistic included rape as penetration, not just sexual assault. As far as I know, rape is defined by sex, which is, in effect, all penetration. Perhaps some women, i.e. those who self-report, count instances that go beyond penetration? Or possibly they just count more stuff than the law will. The statistic I'm using is the one that they taught in my high school physical/sexual education class, when the taught abou…

Good points. Also why do you think we should have the necessary risk of ruining victims' lives even more than if their rapist got away? I agree that false rape accusation is a problem, but isn't rape a worse crime. Obviously a false rape accusation is different than a conviction, so there's no guarantee that it's going to harm someone, especially if their name is cleared from ever being filed as 'under prosecution.' Rape is, for many victims and thanks to the modern feminist movement (who perpet…

If most rapes are by serial rapists... They're not though. That's one of the problems with the stuff that most modern feminists say! Most rape is committed by people who know the victim (I think the statistic is 85% but take it with a MASSIVE grain of salt). Statistics like that [95% of all rape is committed by men] made me believe men were a lot worse than they actually are, and contribute to the idea that rape is normal male behavior. It's not the statistic. It's people who don't understand th…

A false rape accusation is not the same as a failed rape prosecution. Technically they'd both be the same under the law, regardless of what happened. All that needs to happen is for the rapist to counter the original charges which were shot down. I'm just saying that's not okay and could subject the actual rape victim to even more of a hell. Is that a necessary risk? Furthermore, how many of the 'false rape accusations' that were actually 'failed rape prosecutions' do you think belong to the sta…

Jesus H. Christ! The hypocrisy is pure anathema. I've only been here an hour (don't worry--NOT a 'feminazi' or anything just checking it out -- I'm also a guy who hates those kinds of people) and well there have been a lot of excellent points, I'm seriously out. You seem like a good men but the amount of people downvoting the smart people is crazy. Everyone's caught in the hivemind, which IS reddit, after all, but not engulfed in such hypocrisy!

You're narrowing it down to black and white. Besides ironic, what do you call a false rape accuser who gets raped? Screwed? I agree that false rape accusations are a SERIOUS problem but so is rape! Moreover, we shouldn't just let people suffer and rot for something that they did a long time ago. Even more so if they were found to be a false rape accuser but were actually a victim the first time. Maybe they just couldn't provide enough evidence. Or worse yet, what if the jury was corrupt?

So somewhere around 5% of men (1/20) will rape women. That's still a scary number when you weigh it out, but it's nowhere near every man! The other statistic used is that 95% of all rape is committed by men (not just male-on-female). The other thing to take in is that there are an actual CRAPLOAD of rape cases not reported by women, and there's an even larger load of rape cases not reported by men, in both heterosexual or homosexual rape cases. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's clea…

It's a self-perpetuating prophesy! There are many good men, plenty of whom are on this subreddit and /r/feminsim, who will support a rape victim. The fact that people get it in their heads that it's so commonplace is disgusting and pretty scary. It's also created a dichotomy of supporters and skeptics for victims, because they don't know what the hell to believe! Rape needs to stop; victim blaming needs to stop. But we need to educate people to treat their fellow man/woman with respect as well a…

Hey, if you're saying men should be kings and we should have a patriarchy I can see why you would think you're being reasonable, and I can see some rational for that.. But it all depends on what one classifies as 'feminism.' Is it equality or superiority, the latter is unacceptable for anyone, not just women, but men, too.

Well to be fair that same kind of stuff happens here, too. Every ideology has a community backing it who think they're right, and anyone who speaks differently is wrong.

It wasn't proved that she was raped. BIG difference.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
