This is a natural mismatch between those who want to use the sub for formal debate and those who want to use it to have it out with incels. I confess I spent years of my life trying to "debate" incels and I believe it to be a lost cause. Still, with incel opinions largely banned on reddit as a whole, the "debate" pretext is needed to justify tolerating them long enough to make fun of them.

I don't know what women GENERALLY prefer since I don't know women in general. I can state that this is both off-topic and not very convincing evidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:41 AM

How do you know your argument is the status quo*?* By placing the burden of proof on someone else you implicitly make a claim that your view is the status quo and they are challenging. My opinion is that "Blue Pill" is status quo and any other argument is against it. In practice, it's a good idea for OP to bear the burden of proof on Reddit. Also if someone makes a claim that X is true, you are also making a claim that X is false. Not necessarily. I can state that I don't know if X is true or fa…
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:38 AM

Both. Incels tend to crumple like tissue paper when you challenge their generalizations and I always enjoy seeing it.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:27 AM

bruh i ain’t about to do in depth research and site sources on reddit of all places Your loss. Thinking precisely has tremendous benefits, in my experience.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:26 AM

You said "the "burden of proof" is always on the personmaking the claim. In this sub, that usually means the one who made the original post is the one who needs to provide citations, data, or even anecdotes that support their assertion." It may be subtle but I think there's a distinction between statements presented as claims of fact ("Women love clowns") and statements presented as opinions or observations ("I think women love clowns" or "It seems like women love clowns"). The latter have limit…
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:25 AM

If you find incontrovertible evidence of something that makes women look bad, you just get called an incel and IP banned. Do you have this evidence? If so, DM it to me so that you don't get called an incel and banned from Reddit. I can't imagine how anyone could deal with such terrible punishments.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 03:18 AM

I find that the bigger issue is when they state their opinions as fact and support it with "evidence" that doesn't actually support their claim. Especially since most people do what you did in your OP which is to simply link to something without quoting from it to explain how it supports your argument. Your source ironically doesn't support your argument, it's specifically about legal proceedings and doesn't even get into how the burden of proof is assigned. Good catch. Just because someone prov…

/r/PurplePillDebate06/02/24 02:47 AM

Where's your evidence or proof of this? What possible evidence could I offer for how something seems to me? The Red Pill was a subreddit which was free to use and which encouraged people to read a whole sidebar of free information plus an outside blog or two and a few books that are easy to find as free pdfs. Just because something is in a sidebar or a book doesn't make it evidence, per se. And I specifically composed this post to avoid making any claims about TRP except how it makes me feel. Wh…

Ok, so it seems your main disagreement is with the association to evolution. That's fair. What do you believe biology has found about human mating preferences with respect to evolution? Surely it's something, and not nothing. I studied ants, not humans, so I can't help you there. I don't want to add to the ever-growing pile of baseless opinions stated with scientific certainty. Sometimes the smartest thing you can say is "I don't know."

Nothing, especially, but I have degree in Evolutionary Biology and when you make claims, even by proxy, about evolution I want to see citations. It's fine to say "I think X" but when you present David Buss (who's a bit of a laughingstock in EvoBio) without any further comment or support, that tells me you likely don't understand evolution that well. In particular, you and Dr. Buss both make the common error of assuming every trait is adaptive, when in reality many traits are either vestigial or …

There is no rule here requiring any of that. It's Reddit, not a scientific journal. Yeah, so nothing you say is going to be more convincing to me than what I've already read in scientific journals. I'm happy to do more, but it's a two way street, and you need to tell me what your belief is if I'm going to spend more time in it. How would telling you what I believe make your argument more convincing? Is there something specific you disagree with? Your sloppy use of science to back up whatever poi…

You can math out the problem, you just need perfect knowledge of the systems involved and literally unlimited computing power. Thankfully, both come standard with the "Red Pill Man" flair.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 07:19 PM

Great, this is progress. You now need to use more specific citations to show how these sources back up the points you're making instead of just dumping a bunch of.sources on us. I'm sorry that debate is so hard but that's why it's not just a casual conversation.

It's almost like people "need" love and sex to be happy.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 05:14 PM

Oh look it's this post again. My point still stands - could you at least cite a specific paper or book by the good Dr. Buss so people have some context?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 05:10 PM

This is the answer.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 05:00 PM

This is the answer
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 03:12 AM

I'm asking you a question. How much suffering does not having something need to cause before you consider it a "need?"
/r/PurplePillDebate04/02/24 09:13 PM
2

So then you think it would be perfectly fine to go without human company for an infinite duration? You think solitary confinement is ethical? How about being restricted to only bread and water for the rest of your life? Losing these things may not kill you but it will make you want to die. Is torture ethical so long as we don't physically hurt you?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/02/24 08:57 PM
2

Yes, but I'm not going without sex. A psychological need is still a need. Or would you be willing to go without light, or companionship, or entertainment for the rest of your life? I agree that the need for say, food, shelter, or safety are more urgent and important than the need for sex, but it's still a "need" for the majority of living things.

But as a bad person I don't have to care about your if onlys. Then you will continue to be a public laughingstock. I don't have to worry about making people uncomfortable. You also don't have to do it for no reason and to your own detriment. I am an aashole. What the fuck else do you expect? I'm not expecting anything more from you, people like you are why I browse this sub.

Are we allowed to use this as an advice sub? It's not against the rules it just seems like this would be better suited to one of the many advice subs.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/02/24 03:55 AM

At this point I'm just regurgitating google for you, but this is in the Journal of Theoretical Biology: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0022519311005960 All I'll add is you need more than *just* David Buss.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 11:29 PM

I'm not aware of any biologists that study human mating strategies. That's because biologists do not consider humans to be separate from other primates. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.4161/cib.20821 is what I get from a quick Google. How do you believe a biologist would contribute to this topic? Because biologists study evolution, and you're using evolution to justify your point? Why would psychologists be better qualified to study evolution? Do you believe the field of evolutionary psychology is u…
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 11:12 PM

I think if you're making a point about evolution, you should at least cite one or more evolutionary biologists at a bare minimum. I know that actually understanding evolution is hard but you should kinda try before spouting off about it, especially in the most behaviorally complex organism we know of. If you want to discuss things from a purely psychological perspective, a psychologist would be the right person to ask.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 10:53 PM

I'm still confused as to why OP is quoting a psychologist on topics related to evolutionary biology. It feels like science warps and bends as needed on this sub to allow people to grind their dating axes, rather than people using science to understand dating.

Gang bangs, swingers clubs, homosexual behavior.. these are all outliers, and not the norm. And yet they exist and women eagerly participate in them. If your theory only works for "normal people" you're just going to confuse cultural norms for biology. I am speaking of the norm. Humans can express their sexuality all sorts of fun and creative ways, but that's not the majority of people. Thus, we can conclude that the way "most people" behave is not based in. biology, but in culture. If you want …

The fact that porn is consumed mostly by men and created for men is a pretty good indication. You do know that people have gang bangs in real life too, right? Hardcore gangbangs are not anything women are interested in, and this is reflected in the type of pornography and romance novels they consume. The women who invited me to gang bangs are not real? You are being obtuse for no good reason. You are being vague because it's the only way your argument works.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 12:40 PM

Yes, I just believe those differences are purely cultural, rather than being innate differences between men and women.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 01:43 AM

/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 01:42 AM

Let's take a look at what I missed: You're very right that it is impossible to make a solid claim regarding the origin of current cultural norms, but I can of course present evidence to different cultural norms between the sexes, although surely they are self evident (i.e. "period culture" is self evidently different.). I don't have numbers on me, but one such example which clearly demonstrates cultural differences is interest, specifically hobbies. For example knitting culture is more prevalent…

Gangbangs are more often a male fantasy than a female fantasy. Evidence? Again reflecting the massive differences between men and women in terms of sexuality and desires. I hate to be a nudge, but, evidence?
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 12:12 AM
-1

Yes, of course! I think you're attributing all red pill concepts to my view while I really only believe a handful of them and certainly to a lesser extend than the redpill (i.e. general trends vs all women, all men idiocy). Please forgive me, I don't have time to keep track of all the different flavors of RP nonsense.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/24 12:02 AM

And they contradict my lived experiences. If only we had a way of resolving this conflict...like evidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:49 PM

The burden of proof is on the individual making the claim, not on onlookers.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:48 PM

Men need variation and novelty. Women do not. We are not the same.... not even close. Are you sure no woman has ever craved novelty? Not even one? Men want to have sex with lots of women. Women want to have lots of sex with one man. I see you were never invited to a gang bang.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:36 PM

Do you think most single men would take negatively to being propositioned by an average gal for a fwb situation? Why would them responding positively to offers of sex change anything? They're still capable of being lonely long term. Also, minor, very much depends on what you mean. For example, I believe it likely that biologically rooted psychological differences aren't that great, but those have evidently lead to cultural norms which are quite significantly different. I'd love for you to eviden…
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:34 PM

Great. And when RP men actually link this evidence in their posts and comments I'll believe them.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:32 PM

I'm not denying them, I'm asking for evidence they actually happened and actually back up their points.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:31 PM
-1

Nah, most likely you've just been huffing too much RP dogma. Both men and women need sex and both men and women need commitment, at least on average. The sexes are one basic template with minor variations, not two totally different kinds of human being.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:14 PM

I'd need to have some kind of evidence to believe that and this sub is allergic to evidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 11:12 PM

Except most of them have never actually observed these things, they heard about them on a RP podcast and then raced off to reddit to cry about them.

The issue is that some phenomena is fundamentally not conducive to being studied using the scientific method. Right, because just making shit up is so much better.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 04:40 PM

My guess is that you're taking all this online "discourse" too seriously. Real life is not dating advice subs or TikTok.

I'm not sure this specific issue is your issue, then. The issue you have is just not getting experience at all. The abstract ideas on these subs are not a good replacement for real-world experience and will not always apply to your specific situation. Instead of going to reddit to figure out how best to approach, I'd focus on meeting more people and trying things instead.

I've always found this somewhat contradicting advice interesting and would like to hear others thoughts about the topic. When you ask for advice from multiple people, you're going to get conflicting advice. Maybe try someone you trust IRL instead of pill-based subreddits.

You can continue questioning whether an internet post is worthwhile indefinitely . I'm just reminding people that not posting is always an option.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/24 08:57 PM

So then why don't you link the the practical advice instead o providing advice that is not practical?
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/24 07:44 PM

Many will care about the individual people in their lives, but may still actively not care or actively blame men at large. Blaming anyone is not the same as dating advice. Alas, people here are more than happy to post their manifestos about who's at fault without a a single piece of actual "advice."
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/24 07:36 PM

It seems obvious that such a person would have a therapist and not need anonymous advice from a piss-taking subreddit.

I think you’d be foolish to think that this type of thinking doesn’t permeate both sides of the issue. There isn’t a right side or wrong side here. It’s a bunch of people struggling to make sense of a series of modern phenomena with a couple different very limited vocabularies and toolsets. The common theme is that they both wildly oversimplify a large collection of complicated behaviors in obtuse ways. So if no one has the toolkit to understand dating, why talk about it like we do?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/12/23 04:15 AM

I think you vastly underestimate how limited most people are. That doesn’t mean they are limited and well intentioned. People do not like challenging their comfortably held beliefs. It’s disappointing, it’s selfish, but that’s people, disappointing and selfish. Being mad about it isn’t going to make a hugely stupid and selfish portion of the population choose otherwise. They’re still going to be stupid and selfish, you’re just also going to be more unhappy. This isn’t worth wringing your hands a…

People tend to seek simple explanations to complex topics. You see this in politics, gender relations, race relations, opinions about professions, and even healthcare issues (Covid especially). I'm not satisfied with "people in general are stupid" as an answer to "Why are people stupid in a very specific way on this specific subreddit?" Monolithic/black white thinking is easy. It’s a natural intuitive mental shortcut that makes it easy to explain things. Unfortunately, those explanations are not…

Dude, you just said "vague impressions can be misleading" and then went on to list a bunch of random people you got vague impressions from, presumably unrelated to dating and thus not relevant to my point. This is exactly what I'm talking about.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/23 07:09 PM
1

It's a vague impression. I certainly know you're very much the kind of guy I was talking about.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/23 09:01 AM
1

Again, why are you lying? I'm pretty sure I decide what's relevant to the thing I wanted to debate, so I'm not sure how I can be lying about that or where you accused me of lying previously.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/23 08:42 AM

But that isn't relevant to the actual thing I was talking about, which was generalizing social media posts, not political positions.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/23 08:15 AM

I guess I'm glad YouTube banned red pill content. I'm pretty sure these creators never dated any of these female lawmakers, female university professors, females heads of the state or of the government, female judges, or female authors of literature claiming to be scientific. So why would I care what they have to say about them? That's the whole problem, giving people dating advice based on third parties no one is going to realistically date.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 07:00 PM

/r/purplepillfreakshow?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 01:09 AM

I'm part of everyone here, so I'm generalizing from social media posts.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 01:07 AM

It's like an entire skillset and knowledge base that's necessary for that. And I see very little evidence that anyone here has that skillset, especially "Red Pill Men" with suspiciously incel talking points.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:43 AM
1

So then it's not a debate sub so much as a hangout and shoot your shot sub?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:22 AM
1

I'm not asking how to date, I can already do that. I'm asking how you would know one post here is more "right" than any other?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:21 AM
1

In order for it to be a debate, someone has to be able to win. Also, if how do you know which experiences will match your own if you haven't had them yet?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:19 AM
2

Complaining is perhaps the wrong word. How about "bringing up spurious arguments over and over again?" I'm glad the sub is inclusive, but almost all debates here amount to a statement and a bunch of contradictions with no way to tell who's right. This kind of discussion might be interesting and cathartic, but without a tighter standard of evidence I find it hard to call it "persuasive" "debate." So why the pretense of being either? I have a bad habit of questioning the rationale of subs, I apolo…
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:13 AM
3

Yeah, but just because someone's complaining is tangentially related to reality doesn't make it any more possible to reach useful conclusions by debating it. If OP was required to have hard evidence of some kinds before posting....
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:07 AM
0

Right, I'm asking for my own clarity, what is the point of "debating" when the standard of evidence is so low?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:06 AM
1

But by definition any post based on social media is flawed or incomplete evidence. That leaves very, very few debates on this sub that qualify as actual debates and not an attempt to settle internet grudges.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:04 AM
2

No, because your dating experience is going to be different depending on your gender, and neither one (+) can fully comprehend the other's experience, values and motivations. Thus, debate happens. But there's no reason that the women I meet on here, or the other men for that matter, would have a dating experience that is useful to hear them talk about. This goes doubly so for the endless threads in which someone acts like an Instragram post is the end of the world when I already know that my exp…
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 12:01 AM
1

I don't mean any disrespect by this, but shouldn't we ignore perspectives based on flawed or incomplete evidence? I'm not claiming to have dating figured out myself because that's a pretty insane claim to make. Why not call other people on their lack of perspective in, well, a debate on that perspective?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/23 11:56 PM
6

So then why not rename the sub RedPillComplaining? If you're just looking for a fight that's by definition not a debate.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/23 11:54 PM
2

How about working that out with the woman you want to marry instead of an unrelated subreddit?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/23 11:52 PM
2

Doesn't that call into question every debate we have here? It's like asking men who have only seen sex workers what women are like. It's going to be totally skewed from the beginning.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/23 11:49 PM
7

Makeup is only unfair to people with a very specific chip on their shoulder about "looksmaxxing," they're here but easy to ignore, like trace amounts of hydrogen gas.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/23 08:09 PM

I believe your demo survey is 100% accurate with no lying teengagers, thank you for asking.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/23 04:37 AM

it seems like dudes are getting more neurotic about them. Teenagers who grow up immersed in the black pill tend to be pretty neurotic and obsessed with making dating "fair" in ways that benefit only them. In this case, they would not benefit from banning makeup, they'd just be here wondering why women are so "ugly" all of a sudden.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 10:28 PM
12

So in other words, you're arguing that makeup is a crime against inattentive, low-skilled men? That's a horrible way to describe yourself.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 10:27 PM
3

How can you notice a thing with a person you don't interact with? The more likely answer is . Those men are only sexless because of there looks , social skills and social status . That's waaaay more likely then because of there toxic masculinity , so why do they say stuff like that? Well again it is because in the last 15 years you feminist women have been very uncomfortable with what has been to shown the reality of the sexless man . Look! A disciple of the black pill is among us!
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 07:57 PM
11

But again for 15 years now western feminist women ( you women are starting to change and that is good) have been saying that sexless men is that because of factors that are not true because you cant handle the reality. Your generalizing is beyond the pale, dude, there are millions of "western feminist women" and they all haven't been saying the same thing for fifteen years. Perhaps you need to do some research on what feminists are and what they actually say?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 07:54 PM

And yet when I give the same advice to inkwells they tell me I have nothing of substance to say.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/12/23 03:31 AM

Whether I watch it not has no bearing on the fact a large percent of women think this way. Very childish mindset to think just ignoring opinions you don't agree makes them "not exist" No, he wants someone to tell him the conclusion he made based on a 4-second snatch of a podcast designed to piss him off is insightful and justifies not dating while complaining about dating.

Remember, the life cycle of this sub is: See something designed to enrage me > post huge sweeping conclusion on PPD > get enraged by normal people telling me I'm wrong > repeat I'm part of this cycle too, alas.

Given that you have zero actual advice to offer, why not just ignore you entirely?

I'm not sure any field should have credibility on its own. But so much of the "debate" online amounts to going back and forth over standards of evidence that neither side is equipped to debate. As bad as the psych majors you taught were, I promise you "random person on the internet " are much, much less equipped to understand hard evidence and what it does and does not mean. If this sub required you to pass a undergrad stats final before debating it would be virtually empty.

Men here have built a whole made up religion with the 80/20 by not reading the ok cupid article carefully I agree, that's why I'm confused it's still a matter of "debate" for anyone who isn't a blackpilled incel. It's so obviously wrong that only someone who has been radicalized beyond the point of debate would believe it.

And yet someone else will make the same post tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after. I thought black pill stuff was banned, why are we debating the "80/20 rule" at all?

You're mocking them and I'm mocking you. Seems fair enough.

This comment does not strike me as productive debate. Was there something more you meant to say?

Conclusion based on real situation in our family. So a sample size of 1? As for MRA - unlike incels here, they aren't typically obsessed with getting laid. MRAs are just incels who haven't given up yet.

I'm against paying for dates and gender roles in general. Paying for women in order to have sex is veiled prostitution and is awful. Dating is a non-obligatory thing you do out of desire for someone else. If you choose to use money to do that's down to the individual, and whether or not that works is down the the individual. I contributed a lot of effort to rising kids. Not just financially. And still if we divorce, I have zero chances in court. Is this conclusion based on actual legal advice fr…

Let's mirror it: women are rarely screwed in family courts, women get less prison terms for same crimes, women are not expected to pay for dates. Here we have arson, murder, and jaywalking. The reason I'm skeptical of "men's issues" is that having to butter up the person you're hoping to fuck is treated as just as big a deal as having your children taken away from you in court by MRAs. Let me guess, you've paid for way more dates than you've had children taken away from you? Thus this is less ab…

I love it when people say "there are studies that show" and then don't post them. It's less "debate" and more "who can scream the loudest."

Sure, but if you have a pre-existing commitment to take care of the child no matter who they turn out to be, that's a lot better than having a highly specific agenda for the child before it's even born. All it takes is a single DNA error and the kid may well never be what OP wants it to be. Is he still going to take care of it then?

Are you going to give them a free and fair choice? Or just assume they want what you do?

In other words, your desires matter more than the child's? Whatever theory of child care you have, you might want to reconsider it.

So then have you considered you're going to be a bad influence from the start? Unless, of course, you are 100% about everything in your kid's life which makes you a helicopter parent. With family, you have no choice but to cede control because they are separate people with their own agendas.

I think it is the burden of the actual people involved in a romantic relationship to make it work, not on unrelated third parties leaping to conclusions in well-intentioned ignorance. The need of people online to talk shit about relationships they're not in and wouldn't want to be in is shocking to me.

Why do you think people "should" be together when they have only one superficial aspect in common?
