I'm not going to perform mental gymnastics to justify any of this, Bernie does believe some overblown progressive talking points. Equity is impossible in this scenario because childbirth is not. Women bear the majority of the burden of childbirth, and so are entitled to more consideration from the law when it comes to what they want to do with their body. If sexual dimorphism is a valid argument when it comes to women serving in the armed forces and sports salaries, then it must be applicable here as well. As to equity in raising a child, that can be achieved. But as to giving birth, it cannot.
