Statistically, most rapes that are reported are real cases of rape. Furthermore, the stats that we do have on rape are likely inaccurate due to the lack of reporting. Low rates of reporting are due to societial and institutional barriers that survivors face and a part of that is the belief in the rape myth that false reporting of rape is common.
