It doesn’t take much to google the two teams playing and come up with some knowledge for an in. I’m canadian a when I was visiting Australia and New Zealand all the people in the bars were watching either Aussie Rules Football or Rugby, all my MLB, NFL and NHL knowledge was worthless. 10 mins googling the teams and standings during my first beer was enough of an in to start a conversation. Work smarter not harder.

A lot of night places have TVs with sports showing. If you are not already a sports fan, take some time to do some reading. It’s really easy to open with sports. Depending where you are located, it’s even easier to open with a mutually hated team. For example if you are in Philadelphia you hate the Cowboys (actually most people hate the cowboys). Great open... if there is one thing in life I hate it’s the Dallas Cowboys!

I think it’s time for a reality check. You’ve had a site up for a year and generated 50 users around the world. Not only does it look like there is no way to monetize this in sight, but it doesn’t seem like there are people interested in this idea. I think it’s time to let this dream go. On the other hand if you did want to keep at it, it seems it would make sense to focus it on a specific area (city or state). This would be more efficient to market and you could run a few local meet up events.
