You've forgotten. All men are predators and everyone is their prey. No man can film anything without it being used for some perverted use later on. /s

Thankfully, it's history at this point, but Mormons did some really horrid shit while people were moving West. See the Mountain Meadows massacre.

Until we stop assuming that men aren't the victims, I'm sure we'll never really know just how widespread the problem is. Also, why have you gone from "why would you care" to "of course you should care"?
/r/MensRights19/05/16 09:18 PM

The policy of arresting men in domestic violence case regardless of which party is actually to blame isn't something that MRAs should care about? I've experienced DV firsthand and I was in fear of my safety each time, despite being the victim and living in California. This isn't something we should care about?

Given the history of the evolution of Feminism (1st Wave, 2nd Wave, 3rd Wave) we can observe the negative aspects of each iteration. We can identify the inherent sexist and racist overtones in each. We have to compare those negative aspects that plague them against their core goal (assuming it's equally between the sexes) and the progress each wave fights for. While my comment may not make much sense so far, consider why someone may discount Modern Feminism. As the exposure to the concept increa…

Young Grasshopper, you have to have a point first if you're trying to form an argument. You fail at supporting your attempt of one and everyone can see it.

I have no idea what you're referring too with the necromancer comment. You are aware that, even after a person has died, you cannot legally force organ donation or any other seizing of body parts for the good of any other party? Keeping that in mind, by ignoring body autonomy (for the good of a fetus) of a woman, now a corpse has more rights to their body than a woman does. Potential human beings should not have the rights of a human being who exists as a separate entity outside of another's bod…
/r/MensRights08/02/16 10:09 PM

Why are you equating the welfare of a potential person as equal to a unique and separate individual who exists outside it's parent's body?
/r/MensRights08/02/16 09:15 PM
0

That defies the very concept of body autonomy and places a potential human life higher in importance than the body hosting it. At that point, a human corpse has more rights than a pregnant person. If you can address that issue, feel free to equate a potential person being more important than someone who's been born. :/

A child should not suffer in any combination of circumstances. These are our future citizens we're talking about. If a father personally doesn't wish to financially support the child, so be it, everyone should pay taxes into making sure that child is taken care of despite the circumstances.
/r/MensRights08/02/16 03:23 AM

I think a lot of people forget about the concept of body autonomy.
/r/MensRights08/02/16 03:20 AM

I'd imagine that those who realize they're unfit parents should be able to relinquish parental rights for said child. Or should men be forced to raise children when they don't want to?
/r/MensRights08/02/16 03:19 AM
0

How are you reaching that conclusion? If the intention is to help children, you need to strictly define what is and isn't a child (fetus != child). You also need to strictly define what is better for a child, forcing people to raise a child they don't want wouldn't be good for the child whether those forced are men or women.
/r/MensRights08/02/16 03:17 AM

Perhaps supporting children should be a government funded issue that everyone pays for equally. Since children are our future citizens and all that implies.

I really do appreciate it. The entire event and follow up was a horrid mess and I've become very disillusioned with the legal process. After it happened, I tried to get help at a local crisis center and was turned away because the group leader was hesitant to warn the others about me. I was lucky that I got enough help to file a restraining order. When it went to court, I got sixty days when every other woman got three years. I don't know when this will change but I really hope it will soon.

The local DA didn't even prosecute when I wanted to press charges against my ex who tried to bash my brains in with a wooden, water-cooler stand. Even with a witness to the whole event. It doesn't surprise me that people don't report, the legal system doesn't do anything.

While feminist are certainly not wild carnivores on the Savannah, the comparison means to highlight the power each holds to quickly turn a normal day into your worst. Are you confused as to how? I would be happy to clarify for you if needed.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm here to actually talk seriously about these issues and while it's disheartening to hear you describe my actions as hateful toward women; that I could not possibly have any thoughtful discussion in this sub because of your assertions that nobody here is both serious and an adult; that I cannot evaluate information based on merit and instead would only perpetuate untested positions and criticism. There are many reasons that I could imagine someone withdrawing allegations. If the details of the accusation were shown as false, then you might have a legal case even after the allegations were filed. However, we don't often have investigations into the validity of claims that aren't pursued. We can all be civil here and recognize that lessthanadam is legally correct. I'm sure that if there is a legal precedent which could accurately describe the issue that we can find it and form a coherent a…

What about her comment was hateful? It's a critical commentary on how feminism is embraced in the public light. Some people are actually disgusted by the actions of feminists. I can say the same after I was turned away from a crisis center after my ex tried to kill me on the sole criteria of gender. There were no services available for me and not even those who claimed to seek equality were looking to help. Consider this: The touch nerve endings on the end of the penis are not meant to be exposed all of the time. An increased amount of time under protection can increase the nerve fibers sensitivity and reduce the dulling from prolonged exposure.

Some people can only think in absolutes for one reason or another. Theft of food to save a starving family ends up being considered just as bad as the theft of millions of dollars out of people's retirement funds. However, I'm not sure that's a good indication of an IQ being below 80. It certainly is possible but I won't judge here. This isn't the sub for that.

A straw man is a sham argue ment set up to be defeated. I provided one counter example to your claim to show how it wasn't universally true. Those two things are not the same. I am not claiming that I know how to quantify all situations, only that your assertion was false in that it's possible to quantify in the first place.
/r/MensRights27/03/15 01:06 AM

I object to your assertion that suffering cannot be quantified. An example of such is that a paper cut is not worse than two broken legs.

It's an interesting concept that fighting for something demands unbounded respect. I'm sure quite a few soldiers in WWII were racist, but just because they fought for my freedom doesn't mean I need to respect their racist ways.

I'm also talking about altering the brain structure and function. Why would the answer to a mind unable to perceive and accept itself for the biological body it's in to be to convince it's otherwise? This is assuming it's possible to treat the underlying brain structure and function. In the wider world, we confront issues of perception by treating those abilities to perceive (in the ways we're able). What you need is to reduce the amount of suffering you feel and so long as there's no way to cha…

/r/MensRights25/03/15 07:12 PM

Why wouldn't treatment of the underlying issue be ethical? I realize that there are quite a few who have built this disorder into their identity, but that makes it no less of an issue. In a similar vein of thought, I have Aspergers but that doesn't mean that I am Aspergers.

I am unsure how your reply relates to my post.
/r/MensRights25/03/15 06:01 PM

In a social vacuum and without alterations to their state of self and mind, one of those described will function normally and the other will feel suffering. Needing treatment to remain in a euthymic state doesn't fit the description of "no health consequences". Edit: This always gets downvoted but rarely does it get refuted. I know it's not popular but if it's true, being unpopular doesn't make it any less so.
/r/MensRights25/03/15 09:06 AM

Generally, treatment should be encouraged to reduce the level of suffering to a manageable level. That's what medicine is about (mostly). However, until treatment develops to treat the underlying causes, all we can treat is the symptoms.

It's quite the empowering thing to feel as if sexism doesn't happen toward you or generally to men. Some of us are not so lucky. I had the same feelings so I hunted back to the original source Janet Halley's blog and realized that there wasn't any verification aside from their own claim that it had happened. I'd like to see something else that could solidify it. Maybe the administrative order or anything really.

Verification is always good. This piece has been posted repeatedly in this sub but I never see more than the one quote. Even the blog post that it originates from doesn't have a source attached to the claim. So far, all we really have is what one person said on their blog. They're pointing out the word in question. By this comment, I think you've missed it, so I'll remind you. The word is: could. As in, is it possible? Just because something could happen doesn't mean something would happen. It's entirely possible that this woman faces jail time, but is it probable? Fuck no.
/r/MensRights02/03/15 08:54 PM

I don't know if you understand what I'm talking about. The word could is a Boolean indicator that separates the possible from the impossible. Is it possible that the woman will face jail time? Yes. Is it likely given the beneficial sexism women are privileged with? No. It's the difference in terminology between someone asking: "Could you make me a sandwich?" If I've got the ingredients to make a sandwich, the answer is: "Yes I could." Will I? Fuck no, they can make their own damn sandwich.

I'm in Northern California and when I dealt with DV, there was nothing available at all. If it weren't for my roommate witnessing the whole event, I would have been escorted out by the police instead of her. I've tried to form a support group for male DV survivors but the local crisis center pulled their support after reviewing their budget. Churning through these struggles has given me a small bit of insight and this is what I'd suggest for content on an online media campaign. Address the emoti…

This has been the first place where I haven't felt like a monster for being a male domestic violence survivor. It isn't always perfect and sometimes I get feeling that the anger gets a little high but even then, all of you have shown restraint and willingness to talk it out which is nothing I've seen before in any involvement I've had in any other rights groups in the past.

Why shouldn't statutory rape be rape? I mean, I can see where there could be a distinction between if a statutory rape is violent and/or forced as compared to neither of those. Yet both fall under an instance where sex happened but the victim did not legally consent. (in this case, because they couldn't as minors)

Hi, I'm a male DV survivor and I really agree that negativity is the last thing people need here. This is often the only source of active support that people find. There was nothing available in my area and even the crisis centers wouldn't help. So, considering that we're a haven for men who are just starting to learn that the MRM is worth fighting for, negativity serves only to drive people away.

It just seems like a non-sequitur. In the face of emotional abuse of boys and men, why won't someone think of the women?! I've viewed the video and while I do agree that they're making the link between the emotional abuse experienced leads to increased physical abuse later in life, however, when the phrase at the end says that boys need to be "taught not make girls cry" then you're left with an ambiguous ending. The complications that come up usually stem from hygiene issues. The same way that the clitoral hood can experience redness and swelling from infections due to sanitation issues. However, if boys are taught to clean as well as girls are, there should be no issue. Rarely there are other complications but not ones that justify circumcision as the normal practice for all males.
