Overall a good article. The only point I have contention with is when she mentions that a reason that women don't have to pay child support is because they "need sympathy for the loss of their children". So, when a father never gets to see his kids he's just supposed to suck it up? I mean it's not like he misses them at all. A father loving and wanting to be with his children? Unheard of

I came to this thread to say your last point. Prostrate Cancer is an old mans disease. Something like 90% of men die with some form of prostrate issues. Do I think that the whole "breast cancer awareness" thing is overdone? Yes of course. But it's somewhat understandable why prostrate cancer isn't as big. It's because people who get it are at the age when people die, so it isn't really cutting lives short.

Yeah the student union is a joke. I used to go there, and basically it's the same group of people every year. Ryerson is a commuter school so the majority of students don't live near campus therefore don't give 2 fucks about student politics. I think last year the voter turnout for the student union elections was like 10% of the student body and that was considered a great turnout. Half of the people who were running ran unopposed.

Yes obviously in those cases it'd be fair, but the majority of divorces are based around people who are unsatisfied with their marriage. So yes if the guy was terrible then sure it'd be fair. But if the women was the one at fault it seems unreasonable

I'm not exactly well versed in how divorce law works. Does whoever initiate the divorce have any affect on whether or not alimony occurs? I could understand if a guy was supporting his wife while she was a housewife and then he dumped her ass for someone younger, then sure it'd be a little fair that she get alimony. This is part of why a lot of kids really don't like math class. A lot of math teachers aren't really trained in math. They just know what the problems look like and how to test the kids so that's what they do, they just drill them with problems. Just bland problems are boring, but if they were to explain how this type of problem can be used in an actual situation it becomes a lot easier to understand.

The reason that they make a big deal of noting that 50% of men are DV victims is because it is not what the common social narrative is. This article brings up my favourite retort to why the majority of CEO's are men. It's because these men started their career path 30-40 odd years ago, and are now reaching the top of the ladder. Just because more women started getting into business 15-20 years ago doesnt mean that they can just skip the entire process. Wait 10-20 years and I bet you will suddenly see a lot more balance in those upper positions.

I read a statistic from this sub awhile ago which stated that something akin to 80% of youths that end up in front of a judge come from single parent families. I dont know where that is sourced from though so take that statistic with a grain of salt.

I don't know about his school but they certainly run the student union of most of the Universities in the Toronto area. Some students at my alumni (ryerson) tried to start a mens help group and it got banned by the student union for being a "hate group".

The longer life is based upon several things, but mostly due to how men are more likely to work in dangerous jobs/enlist in the military. As well, a great deal of funding goes towards womens health initiatives (e.g. breast cancer) whereas the same cannot be said towards mens health.

It's basing that statistic by including prison rape where they estimated a large number of men were raped per year. Obviously the actual number of prison rapes that happen per year is hard to come by as they aren't reported. If you only consider rape that happens to non-incarcerated people then yes the reported rate is at around 10-20%. And that's only rapes that are reported.

oh yeah. while bioshock 2 did clean up many of the game play issues that 1 had, it lost the immersiveness/story that the first had. as enjoyable as the bioshock 2 experience was, I just felt myself really not caring about the storyline, whereas the first really has you loathing the 2 antagonists. as for infinite it's also a fantastic game and the gameplay was improved vastly both in difficulty and enjoyability. as for the story, it's hit and miss. some people love it, some people aren't thrilled…

yeah fair enough, it's the student union not the school. petty tyrants doesn't even begin to describe it. For years now their group "students united" has been elected into office simply because almost all of them run unopposed. I think the voting percentage last year was like 10% of the student body. Because the majority of the student body commutes, most people really don't care about things that happen around the school. Heck even when I lived down around the school I didn't care about school …

It's certainly unpleasant to think about, but the fact is some people have such sick desires. Obviously like any person they want to act on their desires, so they have a choice: use material that exploited young children (CP) , actually act on young children, or act on an "inaminate" object. The third choice is the lesser of the 3 evils. Obviously doing none of those would be the best, but if they are going to do something, it would better to be the 3rd choice.

The gender bias in early education always bothers me, because without a good early education it leads to a poorer lifestyle further down the line. An example of such bias: They used to teach reading to students using the phonic's method, however boys were better at it then girls so they introduced the whole language method. As it turns out both genders are worse overall with the whole language method, however because girls do better at it then boys it's still around.
