I just had my 6 week appointment after my latest birth, so this is all fresh in my memory. The first week (with a vaginal birth, at least 2 for a c-section) sit on the couch as much as you can. Assuming you’re breastfeeding, you’ll be doing this anyway. Find a way to entertain big brother while you feed baby, too. A special toy that only comes out during feeding time or a show that they like - all this to keep the rest of the house from being destroyed while you can’t get up. (Assuming big broth…

Freezer meals! You can have a delicious meal ready for supper several nights a week with just a few hours work on the weekend. And the first six weeks after birth, you need to take extra good care of yourself. Birth takes a lot out of you. Have takeaway menus ready. But those snuggles and that sweet baby scent is irreplaceable.

I really like The Crown. It’s addictive.

I like old live action movies. Things like the original Parent Trap, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (though it has a few scenes that might scare very young ones. My oldest started watching it when she was 5 and was fine) The Sound of Music, Pollyanna, Anne of Green Gables, Fiddler on the Roof, Secondhand Lions (has so much good imagination.) My kids also love Little House on the Prairie, which I think is horribly boring, but it teaches good lessons . These all have good themes and a lot of the above ha…

My dad was out of my life for the most part and passed away when I was 17. I desperately needed a male role model for what to look for in a spouse, and I didn’t have that at all. Thankfully I married a man who is all those things to our children and more. He takes an active role in every part of their lives, tells them how much they mean to him and they feel so secure in that relationship. I think it’s so beautiful. He is a wonderful example of masculinity for all my children. Strong and gentle …

I almost choked on my apple, thanks to you. I always use the normal phrase on my kids, I might have to change it up now.

The book “The Flipside of Feminism” addresses the point about not getting married. It’s one I recommend reading. Research also shows that children of non married parents are at a disadvantage. Source Also, if there’s no “piece of paper” then you can leave without going through a divorce (though no fault divorce has made this process easier) and be on your merry way. (I’m saying this in general, not trying to rebut what you’re saying op.)

Trust is definitely the biggest issue. I mean, I know he is capable, but I’m just so used to doing it myself that actually trusting in the moment comes hard for me. It isn’t some grand plan on our parts. We discussed what we both want, and have agreed on all the points. I need to dial way back on being controlling, and he needs to fill the void. This happens sometimes in our marriage without either of us thinking about it, anyway, just not most of the time. I had to bite my tongue this morning w…

Thank you for the book recommendation. I will go look that up. I think my husband is suited to trp, mostly because he’s alluded to it without having a name for it, but you’re right, I have to focus on me and my behavior and make sure to teach my children the proper respect of us both. He was just as distraught about her anxiety and behavior, so it seemed to hit him just as hard as it hit me. Sorry I’m so wordy, but there are so few places to discuss these things without judgement. :) Edit: words

Absolutely. He has branded me “the most stubborn woman who ever was” and he’s not wrong in that assessment. But on the other hand, I think he hung the moon. He really does have it in him to make the right moves (he had a wonderful grandfather that was pretty much his only masculine example. His stepfather has outright said that he doesn’t want to spend time with him because my husband is “too book smart.” But he’ll take alcoholic, abusive bil out fishing and hunting. The mind boggles.) Anyway, I…

And please understand that I’m not just waiting around for my husband to make everyone’s life better. I’ve still got a lot of work to do on myself. But I believe that the red pill has the proper framework on which to hang those changes.

Hubby is a wonderful musician, especially on fiddle, but he hadn't done much with it since he was in high school aside from some church music. Well, last year he leaped out of his comfort zone and auditioned for a festival, got the gig, did it again this year and has started his own band and played with a few others. He's got two shows coming up this weekend. He doesn't care to be the center of attention, so this has been a huge stretch for him and I'm just bursting with pride.

I used to be the girl who put up with abusive friends like this. It sounds like it's either jealousy or a genuine dislike of your husband. Either way, she sounds toxic. It's not your responsibility to take care of someone else's mental illness. She is an adult who is aware of her issues and it doesn't sound like she's taking responsibility for them. And honestly, that should be no excuse to treat people like that. Also, if she's like this now, imagine how she'd be to any children that you have. …

I know it's Thursday, but I'll add mine. :) I'm grateful for my husband taking the day off of work to help my mom and sister move to a new house. My dad passed several years ago, so my hubby is the only man to help with these things. I'm thankful for my big sister's encouraging words about an issue I was stressing out about. Lots of good wisdom from her this week. I'm thankful that I got my first smart phone this week. I held on to my old dumb phone for way too long but had to upgrade when my to…

I've been both a sahw and a sahm. I love it. I usually wake up around 6 and nurse my little one, then when my hubby gets up at 6:30 I go wake my older children up. I make lunches the night before and also make sure everyone's clothes are laid out the night before to make the morning run much more smoothly. I give the kids and hubby breakfast (I never eat that early) and get all the kids dressed and ready for the bus. Walk them down and get home and get started on cleaning. I usually clean one se…

Forget what people say. You do what the two of you want to do. I will say (and please don't think I'm criticizing you, I was a sahw before kids) that you should find some hobbies, whether it's volunteering or art or music or whatever. It can get pretty lonely after a while if you're at home alone all the time. Even two days a week of getting out of the house is healthy. :) Best of luck!

I went through something similar when I got married. My best advice would be to find a group of friends to spend time with when you can. It's something I so wish I had done. Best of luck!

I think "The flipside of feminism" would fulfill those requirements. I'm only about halfway through it, though, so I'm not fully endorsing it yet, though. :)
