Humor may play a role in mating, with an evolutionary basis. It is correlated with intelligence, which may explain why women value it. The replicated study done on what women find attractive in potential mates found only two factors: genetic physical attractiveness and sports interest. No other factors were found to be significant, especially not humor. And since taller/heavier built men are more athletic generally, the sports interest may just be an offshoot of genetic factors of physical attractiveness.
