Maybe so. But if we are blaming parasites then we have a bunch of other problems to consider, right? I've always been a heavy guy, yet I have always payed a shitload of taxes and I busted my ass working in STEM. Am I a greater burden than the welfare parasite? Maybe, maybe not. But I doubt that being slim excludes people from being a burden. I have lost some weight, but it's not as easy as it seems, it's in part due to bad habits acquired during your childhood.

Get her a book called "The Number Devil" by Hans Magnus Enzensberger, it's what pushed me on to the STEM path, I hope she can become part of the handful of awesome women out there that are great at what they do. Back in academia I met a few, but they are really rare. Best of luck!

I used to work at a very small tech startup with a handful of guys, we even had minorities (one of them one of the smartest guys I've ever had the pleasure to meet) but no women. I hear you. Years ago it was my mother, years later my ex, more recently a new girl, who I ignored the moment she started doing shit-tests. They all want something. They have no allegiance to you but to their "kind". At this point if you cannot be happy by yourself you never will be.

Same here. I recently quit my job and since I was able to save a lot of money I can now take it easy for about a year while I find the next gig. If I had a wife or a gf I could not have saved so much

Exactly. I did too and I focused on expanding my skillset and over the years I went from being dirt-poort (almost homeless) to having a research stipend to a software-engineering salary. Now I'm trying to make the jump to a job that pays about twice as much. And in 5 years, who knows? But I'm making plans for doubling it again. All this so I can retire early and leave the disgusting social scenario.
