Is it possible for two parties to be 100% repsonsible? If so, I'll accept the premise.

Oh, buddy......... All social movements follow basically the same four steps: 1) Demand opportunity 2) Demand equality 3) Demand preference 4) Factionalism We're somewhere between the third and fourth stages with Feminism. Equality of the sexes was a long long time ago.

For yourself but more importantly for your daughter get the best lawyer you and your family can afford. You're going to be on the hook for child support. And if you work and she doesn't the court will identify her as the person with the most time to serve as primary caregiver so she will most likely get primary custody. You are going to see very little of your daughter most likely. The heartbreak of having her break up with you is the least of this. That will pass. The child support will l…

It's too ironic to be believed. A powerful voice against sexual abuse being identified as a child rapist. And a powerful voice for "believing the victim" calling for cautious analysis of all available evidence before making a judgment.

You hate to buy in to the premise--that it's a men vs. women competition in life--but in thinking about groups of women who have achieved something great, I'm having hard time identifying good contenders. Maybe M.A.D.D.--I don't know if it is an exclusively female organization, but what they have accomplished is pretty awesome.

I don't think this is suggesting a comparison of men vs. women. It's pro-men without any reference to women. Perhaps the "supporting their families" line could be implied as a reference to women, but it's not overt. I appreciate your concern. And this site can be pretty toxic. But I think this sentiment can be expressed without a negative association.

It's something I wrestle with. It's not so unfortunate for me--Ive got a career. But these are young women from lower social classes. They don't have doctors in the family. They don't have anyone to walk them through the gamesmanship of the medical application process or speak frankly with them about what a life in medicine is like. They need a mentor to encourage them and guide them. But....it can't be me.
/r/MensRights07/02/18 06:17 PM

I work in the medical field and work closely with a number of young people who are looking for help climbing the ladder to med school, PA school, etc. With the young men I can show an interest in them and talk about their lives and exchange emails with and take out to lunch to talk about life....all of which I had when I was considering medicine. But I would never do that with one of the women. It genuinely sucks for them. I have no reason to distrust any of them, but I just can't bet my career,…

I think her argument is that it was his responsibility to know what she wanted (and act on it) so that she wouldn’t be the only one with the burden of asserting her desires. I think she’s a childish idiot. But there’s a whole lot of childish idiots out there.

Did CK have power over these women? I don’t know the details but I thought they were co-workers hired by a third party. Or is it that he was such a celebrity that he might have some unofficial power. That seems hard to identify, much less quantify.

It's been a big story in the United States. There are guys being expelled from school over retro-active consent withdrawal. Issues where women didn't want to engage in sexual contact but felt too inhibited to say so at the time, or didn't realize the extent of their concerns at the time. And at least some of these celebrity cases (like the Louis CK case--an American comedian) where women agreed to sexual activities but didn't want to agree to them. And at least in the Ansari sexual assault case …

What does being reported mean? One path would be to tell the professor you feel that he is being complicit in creating a hostile learning involvement. That you will be recording all class sessions from now on and submitting a copy to the department chair and dean at the end of each class. If this girl can bully you without pushback from you or the professor she’ll just keep on doing it. In my experience most profs fear/respect their department head and/or dean. I think a couple of your points are well taken and I think we agree on more than we disagree. The studies to support my contention, or yours, don't exist. I think we differ on this idea of women trapping men with babies: I think the majority of un-dual-desired births are the product of recklessness or statistical birth control failure and not maternal conniving. Ultimately, what is best for these kids. Surely having their daddy's money at their disposal is a benefit. Would the reduction in suffe…

I think you are wrong and possibly self-contradicory. Your first argument is that men walking away from their responsibilities will reduce single motherhood. I think that is an unsupported contention. Surely its as likely that allowing men to be irresponsible would reduce condom compliance and increase unplanned pregnancies. Your second argument is that more men would participate in their child's life if they felt they had some right to not participate in that child's life. Again, counter-intuit…

I think we have reached the point where our conversation is going to probably grind to a halt. I think that "decisions about the pregnancy" include the decision about whether to create a pregnancy, and thus fulfill the criteria for autonomy and thus responsibility. And I don't accept that "the state" is a fourth party. The "state" is other people, and I won't buy in to a personal morality that requires moral behavior of others, but not one's self.

I'm 100% on board with the benefits of more male birth control. I'm not cool with the argument that since men's birth-related choices are less than women's that the child can be the victim of that inequality. As long as men have the option of not creating life--and we all do (male child rape victims excepted)--then we have the obligation to take responsibility for the lives we do create. Failing to do so puts the burden of our decision on the shoulders of kids who had zero choice in the life cre…

I will concede the point that statutory rape vicitims should not be liable for the children conceived there-by. When you talk about people being reasonably held responsible for their choices it sounds like you are making a moral argument (with which I agree). If that argument is that people can only be held responsible for their choices ---then how is it right to hold children responsible for the fact of their existence over which they had no choice, or allow them to suffer the consequences of s…

I think you may be confusing biology with morality. Women have more control over pregnancy because it HAPPENS IN THEIR BODIES! You are expecting “equality” when the human substrate doesn’t allow for any such thing. Life is not fair. But if you are concerned about fairness you should be arguing for MORE parental responsibility, not less, so the innocent party (the child) suffers the least. By your reasoning pregnancy shouldn’t be legal because you’re allowing one gender to benefit from their acti…

Aside from not fucking vaginas which, legally, they have 100% autonomy in. The idea vaginal sex is second only to oxygen on the hierarchy of needs is not sustainable. But if you feel that way (as, frankly, I do)—fine, just accept the consequences of your decision to indulge that particular appetite. Shunting the consequences onto a child is not, I think we can agree, very manly.
/r/MensRights06/11/17 04:05 PM
1

Yeah.....total control until you stick your cock in a vagina. You can live a long happy life without vaginal sex. That one restriction is not too life limiting. And if you choose to go there then man up and accept the consequences of your decision. This isn’t complicated.
/r/MensRights06/11/17 04:02 PM
1

That part I agree with. More contraception choices would be good for everyone. Even so, men have near total control over their sperm. Pretending we are helpless victims is a tough sell.
/r/MensRights05/11/17 08:20 PM
0

Well “zero choice” is....well either a lie or a fantasy. Guys have a lot of choice about whether they create a human life or not. Take a little responsibility for where you spread your sperm. Expecting other men to take responsibility for your decisions is how children think. I’m sure you aren’t a child, so raise your responsibility game a little.
/r/MensRights05/11/17 08:18 PM

How would this make the child’s life better? Rather than thinking about how to get perfect equity between men and women, throw in a third (innocent) party. Maybe the law should be designed to give the greatest protection to those with the least autonomy.

If you read the USAToday review it's enthusiastic and mentions, briefly, at the end, something along the lines of "some audience members might be caught off guard by the absence of women and minorities in major roles." It's a very positive review and characterizing the remark on women and minorities as a complaint is overstating the case.

Well...criminal cases do work this way. If you are charged with a crime and don't show up for court they will still convict and sentence you. If you show up later and claim you had no idea that a criminal case had been brought against you, you'll still be cooling your heels in jail while things are sorted out. I hope he is telling the truth and can prove it. I hope that even if he isn't the fact he isn't the father will be weighed (heavily) in his favor.
/r/MensRights24/07/17 12:00 AM

That's good for the father, but not so good for the child. The father has virtually unlimited autonomy, while the child has none. A system that's great for autonomous party A and great for autonomous party B but shitty for non-agent C is.....at best 67% moral. We can do better

Generally in favor. But as an alternative to dumpsters, not as alternative to responsible parenting. I think I take your point. If I support a parent abdicating their responsibilities by dropping a kid off at the local fire station what is the difference in a parent (father) simply abdicating their (his) responsibilities in some less dramatic fashion? If that is your point I think it's exceptionally well made. My stance is best articulated as (the nauseatingly named) child centric social justice…

I can't make out what you mean. Did you mean "woman"? Is the implicit argument that since women have the ability to abort unwanted pregnancies that the Universe owes men equal powers? Women have a different relationship to pregnancy than do men. Their bodies are involved in it. That gives them a platform to stand on that men just don't have. The idea of some perfect all-aspect equality between the sexes is a fantasy. Men will always have shorter lines for the bathroom and women will always have …

I think my argument is a bit different. The pro-choice argument--as I understand it--is that the mother's right to autonomy over her body trumps the fetus's right to life. With a father the issue of corporeal autonomy is not in play. I grant the concepts in play are similar, but there are crucial differences. Ultimately it comes to a balance of rights. Those entities who have the greatest autonomy (mom and dad) require the least societal protection. As fathers have near total autonomy I'm unimpr…

"Agree" "Deserve" What's next..."feelings"? We can have a discussion about rights, and feelings, and inequality, but let's not confuse it with a discussion of reality. Reality is if you have heterosexual sex you are running the risk of creating a baby. So the question is: What rights men should have once they've created a baby? Is that the issue? The right to compel abortions? Probably no. That seems pretty fucking creepy. The right to walk away from the responsibility of supporting a baby they …

Dear god man: If you have sex you are running the chance of making a baby. There is no "agreement" necessary. Every time you have heterosexual vaginal sex you are running the chance that you will create a human life. That's just a scientific fact. You can be upset about it, but can't dispute it's truth. You can't deny responsibility for the known consequences of a volitional act. There are a lot of humans on the face of the Earth. It's not a secret how they got there. Your cited article does not support your argument. You have 100% control over your sperm. Choosing to give the woman responsibility for your sperm is a choice you are free to make....but not a wise or mature one. We all know women can lie and condoms can fail. If you choose heterosexual sex you are choosing to take on the responsibilities for the known consequences of heterosexual sex. If you don't want those responsibilities there is no need to take them on. Yes. Getting a woman pregnant is ass…

Agreed to assume. Isn't fathering a child agreeing to assume responsibility for the child's care? The details of how much can be hashed out, but the fundamental obligation is not in question is it. If I'm not responsible for the care of a child I fathered--who is? You have total right to freedom from fatherhood. The fact women have more control over the fetus is an accident of nature, and fortunate for them, but you have 100% control over your sperm.

We disagree. I think it is reasonable to expect certain minimum standards of human behavior. The fact we know are fellow humans are capable of barbarity does not equate to us deserving barbarous treatment when we put our selves in contact with others. If your example removed the agency of others--for instance instead of being white and flashing money in Compton, being human and playing with Grizzlies in Alaska--then I would agree with you.
