Thank you to everyone who has commented, you've all been helpful (except for the one which wasn't - already dealt with that one) and I've got lots of great ideas from your suggestions and perspectives. Cheers!

That is not helpful. No, I will not be leaving my devoted and loving husband and father of our child over a small amount of extra weight. We are not talking about a lot of weight (he is handsome and has other women hitting on him all the time) but even if I was, the fact stands that he is my husband and I married him for life. I want to help support his health not destroy both of our lives by divorcing him. Geez!

Ah I didn't know that. Odd, I thought statins were meant to help prevent heart problems as a result of high cholesterol. And doesn't cardio help lower the risk of heart issues? I am not saying I disagree, just never heard your perspective before so am interested to learn more.

Also it's not a 12 hour shift, he works 9 - 5. He is out of the house 12 hours, that is different.

He works hard and has a good job but doesn't earn enough to fully support us, and we are currently surviving thanks for financial help from my parents. I am going to have to return to work part time when my maternity leave ends, and my schooling is necessary so that I can pursue a career path that is actually meaningful and stable, rather than one that makes me feel empty inside. We are both burnt out yes, and I am trying to be compassionate about that. Giving up my schooling is not the answer c…

I have never heard that about nagging - I love that! You've made me think. Thank you

Thank you! This is a lovely reality check. I think it's important for me to remember "good enough" and not focus so much on supposed perfection. And to be grateful for any help. I bet with more gratitude and less resentment, he'll probably want to help more anyway.

This is helpful, thank you. It sounds like you are very patient and understanding with your husband. I want to channel some of that energy so that I enjoy this beautiful time instead of comparing it with an idea of "perfection" that may never exist.

Thank you for your advice. I think you are right and it would be helpful to have some more structure around the time he spends with baby. I think I have also made a rod for my own back by taking over some jobs because he thought they were hard (e.g. nappy changes and baths). I think I need to gently pass back some of the responsibility to him, because the only way he will learn is by doing it. With parenting it doesn't seem right to just say "that's hard so I don't want to do it". All that means…

We are in the UK actually however his drinking has been an issue in the past so I'm keen to not encourage the pub route too much. He has an hour commute on the train each way from work and - while not necessarily fun - is some time to recoup from the day (I certainly don't get that much alone time!). I know 15 minutes isn't much time for him to decompress once he gets home from work however with the hours he is out of the house (7AM - 7PM), if he doesn't spend time with baby early in the evening…

Thank you for your perspective, that is also a fair point. We definitely need help, however money is very tight and we can't afford a sitter. I will try to be patient, however it is a hard balancing act doing that while not completely burning out and martyring myself.

Thank you @flyingspacebanana - couldn't agree more!! Happy mama = happy baby, and I'm pursuing my dreams while still looking after him full time and giving him the best care possible.

I've expressed a lot of it to him, and continue to do so as it's still not resolved (hence my fear of being a nag). To be fair he does spend time with the baby after he's back from work, once he's had about 15 minutes to unwind. But I do all of the feeding (he is exclusively breast fed), nappy changes and baths. And like I say weekends leave a lot to be desired, I end up feeling feeling resentful about him being in bed, but when I mention this it just seems to backfire and he stays in bed longer…
