I am also childfree, and have always made that clear right away. But there has always been an underlying feel to all my previous relationships, that I’m less deserving of long term companionship and marriage. Weirdly enough, this sentiment has all come from childfree men.

It’s a good idea to look at his other relationships. How does he talk about his parents? Does he have siblings, sibling in-laws, nieces and nephews? How about close friendships? Eventually, we all should have the history talk, and we can find out about past relationships, how long they lasted, and why they ended. I have an ex who was at first attentive, loving, and giving and seemingly HVM, but the red flags showed in the bare minimum attention he paid to his family (rarely called or visited his…

This was a recent thing for me. My last relationship went from lovebombing to emotional and physical withdrawal, leaving me feeling anxious and lonely. Even though I stated clearly that my needs were not being met, the issues were always that I should learn to deal with my anxiety. And don't get me started on the common refrain "you need to learn to love yourself, or you won't be able to love anyone else." My dude, I've got a pretty good sense of myself, don't deflect my clear issues with empty …

It's pretty strange that Malory Archer is depicted in the sub's banner. I'd like to hear her opinion on many of those posts. Do it ladies....be like Malory Archer

Yes and no. My former partner loved my "fun facts" and liked hearing about my work and its greater impacts on the world around us, but I also had to be very careful not to beat him in puzzles or critical thinking tests. That kind of self-editing really dragged me down. It depends on the guy. My recommendation is to establish the kind of beast you are early on, and gauge his reaction.

"Pretty much every relationship in my 20s felt like sexual abuse to some degree" This. Dating was like a paradox, desiring affection yet feeling really uncomfortable with both masculine attention and intimacy. I told myself if I wanted a relationship (and I did), I would just have to adapt to how men were. My 20's were a disaster. I have so much history that I'm ashamed of, that despite how smart I am, I still allowed abusive and emotionally-stunted men to get to me. Strangely enough, OLD has be…

Same. I got the copper IUD nearly 15 years ago because it was the most effective form of birth control (outside of sterilization, which I was considered to be too young for). Yes, I did suffer through several weeks of terrible side effects, but I was determined to stick it out because I paid for the damn thing out of pocket on a grad student stipend. It is my body, and I did it for me. My bf at the time was against it, because of the potential side effects. Strangely enough, he was unconcerned a…
