Some of my favorite parts of the book were towards the end when he was already discussing how much things had changed since he'd become involved/started paying attention. I think he described himself as the AMOG in order to connote to all of us his social position in the group, which in the OP's scenario was quite alpha. But I agree that OP should make sure he understands what an AMOG is so that he can correctly interpret other posts and FRs in which it appears. No need for unwarranted confusion.
