I do not know exactly but I will give my best theory of why. I believe that in the very beginning when humanity was mainly tribes and small groups. That the people picked up on how women are not as strong and as fast as men normally and decided that men should be the ones out hunting and women should be caring for the children and such. it was men and you are not understanding ethier. Women couldn't just go around and start rising up against very powerful governments. They had to plan things out. Being oppressed means that you are not powerful because you are being dictated and controlled. And they would not gain much support since most of the women were brainwashed and most men didn't care for women at the time.
