Thank you for your input and perspective. It’s definitely a lot for me to think about.

All really good points, y'all, thank you. I am definitely willing to compromise on some things, so you're right, it comes down to a matter of what exactly I'm willing to compromise.

You have a man who loves you and wants to marry you. That's hard enough to find without shared life goals. Don't throw that away because you're afraid of what you might be leaving on the table. It's not that good. I promise. Hey there, so I read your comment again, and this keeps jumping out at me. Are you saying that (as someone who wants to get married) we should jump at marrying the first man who wants to marry us (as long as they are a good man, of course), because we don't know if that oppo…

Thanks for going through all the comments and everything. I grew up in a small town/country setting and currently live in a similar type place. I only lived in a city for about 1 and a half years and didn’t like it at all, so I know for sure that I want the country kind of life. I totally agree with you that once kids come, that will be taking up most of my time anyway. But I have always hoped to have a family who does outdoor activities together, where my kids can learn skills from their dad an…

Yeah it’s tough… and honestly, no I would be happy if we married and nothing else changed. There’s a lot I need to change to be happy, but he feels the same too, we know that there needs to be a lot of progression with our lives. We’ve both kind of been wandering around and want to find our home now. And that’s a good question, I know that’s kind of what my friends wonder too. There’s a lot of things that’s drew me too him. The relationship itself, like the physical part, the every-day part, wit…

Thank you so much. I know, I feel terrible that I’m being like this, and no he doesn’t deserve this, but this is probably literally the biggest decision of my life that I’m up against, so I want make sure I have thought about it long and hard. This is for my sake just as much as his.

Yeah I will need to actually give this a proper read. I’ve read the article, but not the book.

He wants to be an electrician… but he still needs to do the training and everything. It’s not the best situation, honestly, but I’ve been trying to be forgiving of that because people make mistakes and I guess he comes from a country with fewer opportunities. He’s the same age as me.

That’s true, grass is greener approach is tricky. I thought he could get there because the way we met is that we were both WWOOFing (volunteering on an organic farm), and he talked a lot about the times he went camping in his brief stint in the military, but then I found out that was literally the only time he had ever camped. I tried to see if he wanted to start fishing, so we went to the store to buy stuff together, but he’s only been out to do that like twice. He wants to get into a trade so …

He doesn’t have a degree or certifications so there’s really no way they will give him a work visa. And he can’t afford international student tuition so he can’t go the school visa route either

A "good provider" for me personally is a man who is strong and healthy, has practical "survival" type skills such as building, hunting, fishing, butchering, and also has a stable income - doesn't have to be a lot, just enough for a family to survive. This is just because of the life that I want to live. I feel like I'm doing my part, I have developed my skills as well - I learned how to do a lot of cooking and baking from scratch, gardening, raising animals. That's why I've been looking for a ma…

I can agree with all that. I think we could grow something good together. I just hope that I won't be resentful about it a few years down the line. Like wishing that he did this and that. It would feel so evil. Yeah, and all the potential issues/ incompatibilities that come with the "country man" thing... that is something that I've thought about. I know there's gotta be some guys out there who are a little different but who knows if I'll ever come across that situation. Liberal leaning, not rel…

Date has not been set yet. That's a good question. The thing is that he is not a citizen, he came here on a travel visa and met me and decided to stay to date me, so for us it's a situation where we either get married, or we breakup and he goes back to his country. He can't really start a career here unless we get married so he's kind of just stalled right now. When he proposed, I wasn't 100% sure, but I also knew I didn't want to stop seeing him at the time, so that's why I said yes.

Yeah I'm down for compromising. He does believe some things that are against my morals... but I am willing to agree to disagree if everything else is good. There are some games that we can play together and we have.

I definitely don't want a carbon copy of myself... I want someone who compliments me and I them. I want someone who does the things that I want to do/like doing and will lead me in doing those activities. And that is a good question. I think I love him. I mean, I would be kind of heartless at this point if I didn't. I'm just not crazy in love with him.

I’m a big movie watcher, and I’ve always found the women in these movies that are the most beautiful, confident, and interesting are around age 30. I’m talking Helen Hunt from Twister, Ashley Judd from Double Jeopardy, Catherine Zeta Jones in Zorro. So I’m going to say that around 30 is when women peak. Women mature faster than men, so it makes sense that men would peak later, but I don’t think it’s that much later. Just a few years maybe.

Y'all. This is fake. Very Funny, OP. You got a good laugh out of me.

You're not crazy... It sounds like he hasn't actually asked you out, he just asked when you're free. Now you have to wait and see if he will actually try to make a plan with you. But I agree, if a guy doesn't take charge like that with initiating the first date, that is a turn off for me and I just move on.

Would you say 1.5-2 months after the first date or after becoming officially in a relationship?

We’re two hours apart so it’s not so bad. I like that we have our own space and life but can get together every week or two.

Yeah, I’ve been burned in the past and am generally afraid of intimacy because it usually let me down, both with plutonic and romantic relationships so yeah I am hesitant.

I don’t know if I want to tell him or not, that’s why I’m asking if it’s a good or bad thing to tell someone.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
