Read Neil Strauss's new book, "The Truth." It's all about him directly confronting these issues, very helpful.

It's a long process, but it's possible. Start by figuring out what exactly is different about you when you're drunk, in terms of behavior. When I'm drunk, I smile more, laugh more, and say what's on my mind. I can do that sober now, too. And yeah, it's mainly about confidence and caring less about what others think. I'd recommend Allen Carr's Easy way to Control alcohol. It's an excellent book and breaks down how drinking doesn't actually give you confidence. I quit drinking and since then I've …

Influence by Robert Cialdini (I think?) is a classic. Sperm Wars is a good intro to evolutionary psychology. Freakonomics, The Game, anything by Malcolm Gladwell http://ryanholiday.net/reading-list/ Ryan Holiday's reading list is the best I've found so far, it's a good starting point (not as much social psychology, but very relevant info)

As long as your thumbs are out, it's actually a dominant stance. You can read more about that in "What every body is saying" by Joe Navarro. Never stand with your thumbs in your pocket and fingers out

Learn to start chatting with strangers. it's hard at first, but over time it becomes second nature, and you'll be making friends all over the place. There's a ton of advice on here about approaching, look into it. Also, I'm a girl, and it's really easy to approach people because you're rarely seen as a "threat" like some guys are

Check out "the mating grounds" podcast by Tucker Max. I'm not sure if they have papers out, but they talk a lot about science, seduction, and evolutionary psychology.

That's okay, we're all learning together. I'm no pro either, but I think if we all share techniques that work, we'll become much better than on our own.

Look up Style's Evolution routine. I used it for the first time last night, and it went insanely well. I highly recommend it.

Watch stand up comedy - it'll make you think about the world in a funnier way. Notice what makes certain jokes funny, pay attention to timing and body language. Just make sure you don't tell comedian's jokes to people, it will come across as fake since you aren't being authentic.

Girl opinion here: openers on OKC totally matter. Women in general place less emphasis on looks than men do, so having a good picture is important, but it's not nearly the most important thing. Your opener is alright, honestly I probably wouldn't respond to it. I respond to guys who say something about my profile or ask me something interesting. Never say "what's up" or "how are you." That seems obvious but tons of guys do it. Also, don't lead with "you're gorgeous"

Awesome. I'm living in midcity for the next month, but need to find a new place next month. I got a ghost tour guide job so I'm around the quarter a lot, what are good places to go?

I felt pathetic the first time I read one, but it improved my life so much I stopped caring. You can learn a TON from books. Obviously you still have to test the principles out in real life, but I know I'm a way better person now due to the self-help section on my bookshelf. That being said, does anyone use scribd? I started a free trial last night and it's amazing so far.

Read "How to Talk To Anyone" by Leil Lowndes. I found it insanely helpful, and reading it helped me get over the fear of running out of things to say. Dale Carnegie is great too, but Lowndes is more current, comprehensive, and easier to apply

washing dishes works too, but you wash your hands far more often, so it's my go to. You can concentrate on the smell of the soap and the feeling of the water. It helps me stay centered

It's important to observe your mind and figure out what dominates your thoughts the most. For me personally, I noticed that I was projecting myself a couple hours into the future most of the time. Like, if I was reading I'd be thinking about meeting up with a friend later that day. To counteract it, I started projecting myself backwards to see how pointless this line of thinking was. So I would imagine myself doing whatever I did two hours ago, I'd quickly get sick of it, then I'd become present…
