I don't know if combat is the preferred method of males solving problems. I think there is a theory out there that states that since male chimpanzees hunt and fight other chimp "tribes" with male counterparts who are mostly related, (as it is the females who find new groups), that the alpha chimp isn't always the strongest but the one who is most manipulative and able to bring the "tribe" together. I think this also applies to humans who faced similar selective pressures as our closest relative.…
