1	Sensible article about domestic violence published in Australian mainstream media I thought it was interesting that the article noted the change in Rosy Batty's attitude. I truly respected her when the incident first occurred when she spoke about the tragedy of mental illness. When she became "Australian of the year" it was suddenly a "gender issue". 3	Boys taught to think one solid way since childhood Yeah, there's always been that double standard. In the library where I work, boys and girls can borrow whatever they like, without judgment, so hopefully that is chipping away at the stereotypes. 6	New writer Maggie Mellon at A Voice for Male Students calls out double standards regarding rape and speaks up for the wrongly accused: "if women cannot/will not take responsibility for their own actions in the bedroom, why/how do we expect to be treated any differently in the boardroom?" As a woman who was there in the early days of feminism, I know better than most, the barriers we faced and had to break. But as the mother of a young man & young woman, I can no longer sit by and watch my daughter benefit from our efforts, while my son suffers for them. I was in the loo at McDonalds, and a little girl, about maybe 4 or 5, was in the stall next to me, but couldn't undo her clothes - she wanted Daddy, who was waiting outside. I wasn't going to undo some strange little girl's clothes, so I invited him in to do the task, and told him I'd cover for him. Everyone was happy. Teamwork people!! We have "graphic novels" not comics - geez :), that cover classics such as Moby Dick, as you say, as well as Sherlock Holmes, Alexander the great, myths and legends from various countries. Even though I'm not a teacher, I know that boys don't read and relate to books and other media in the "right" way. (They are more likely to be boisterous, competitive and chatty - not quietly reading and giving the teachers no trouble.)
