Thank you for the prayers. God knows I certainly need them. Based on what others have been saying, I think I'll scale back my emotional investment so that I can view things more objectively. Then if things turn out poorly I can move on more easily. Maybe she'll become attracted. Who knows. I'll continue to pray for God's leading and wisdom. It might be that my role in all this is to help her with her trauma rather than to date or marry her. If she heals from this and I was able to help her throu…

If wisdom is from God, and God is leading me in this area, then under your definition doesn't that mean it's wisdom through faith in God? Because it definitely is not wise under conventional thinking, as we can see from all the other comments on here. I raised my concerns in the OP because I recognized that conventional wisdom was against it, not necessarily because God was against it.

No, I stand by my assertion that faith trumps wisdom. We're Christians, which means we're people of God and we walk by faith, not by sight. Just look at the people in Heb 11 for examples of great faith, or how Peter walked on water. Even in my own life, there have been multiple instances where I did what was scary, what was unwise, because I had faith in a God greater and mightier than me. Ex: In my first job out of college, for my church's thanksgiving offering, I donated every cent I had in my…

Yes, I agree. She gave me permission to talk about it with her leaders, so I'll probably end up talking to her spiritual leaders instead.

Thanks for the advice. I've read your content on the sidebar, so I know that you can be counted on to give a reasonable and balanced opinion. You bring up a good point about conflict of interest which I failed to consider. I'll talk to her and her spiritual leaders to get their opinion as well if they think the conflict of interest is a big enough deal. It very well may be that the correct thing to do is to take a step back and see how she changes. Just for clarification, what you're saying is t…

That's a good point. Things will definitely challenge her (and me), especially during life transitions such as marriage or kids. The 110k is not in a savings account, about 100k of it is invested in stock.

That seems like prudent and wise advice. I'll talk to my leaders to get their opinion as well on the physical intimacy part, as this is kind of a unique case that might warrant deviating from the standard protocol to avoid sexual sin. I definitely recognize the risk here. I can't continue a doomed relationship indefinitely, so I agree that I will have to end it if things don't look better after some time. I'm praying for her and our relationship too, so thank you for your prayers.

What makes you think she'll fake it? I've never discussed finances or how much I make with her, so I don't think she knows what I make or is motivated by that. I did talk to her spiritual leaders, who told me that they're optimistic that things might work out. They warned me it would be emotionally difficult for me, but that since she was willing to to put in a lot of effort, they're hopeful having a boyfriend will help her. So I did get some confirmation from two other respected spiritual sourc…

This indeed would be the wisest choice. I'm certainly not planning on proposing or anything unless she can receive healing.

I'm under no illusion that a marriage can work unless there's genuine attraction, both sexually and romantically. I have no plans to propose unless this can be resolved, as I would not be happy in a sexless marriage. I agree with you that it's possible the change is only temporary (until the ring is on her finger), but if she willfully does that, she's not going to be answering to me, but answering to God for that kind of serious intentional deception. That deception doesn't even make sense beca…

I think calling her first rejection of a friendzone is not really fair. She legitimately was not interested in dating anybody, because she was working on herself (and is continuing to work on herself). In RP lingo I guess she was in nun mode. I agree with you on abundance mentality. However, it's not as if there's some other girl(s) who I'm super interested in dating. It takes more than a pretty face and a fun feminine personality for me to be attracted to someone. Otherwise, I agree with you.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
