Thanks! If you think you can "play act" for a few months, then I think this is what you should do. I think I can do it considering what's at stake. It'd feel fantastic to go down to the garage and drive away tonight and get out of this hell but looking at the alternatives and the possible outcomes it's not economically wise. Thanks. I've researched and found some lawyers I'll call first thing Monday. Leaving quickly makes sense, even though the difference in salary back home will probably be 60k less per year.

Wow. Thanks for the thorough response, very sobering. Not UAE, somewhere in South-east Asia. From what I've heard from other expats, legal options here rarely works out. You grease palms, pay fees and you're not guaranteed any outcome - heavily biased towards natives versus foreigner. Concepts like restraining orders etc do not exist.
