Yep, I’ve been called classist for not wanting to date men who work in bars, clubs or pubs. My reasoning? I’ve tried it in the past and our schedules are incompatible. But no, I must be classist 🤪

My heart breaks for her. At the same time, she knows the truth but she’s not willing to accept it yet. After my ex proposed (no kids but one pregnancy loss), I asked him what he loved about me. He said the same thing- that he loved how I took care of him and how much I loved him. I remember feeling so odd and ill. When I pushed him, he said that loved that I always eat all of my fries first before I eat my burger when I order a burger. Out of all of my traits, the only things he could think of w…

I actually think I might do this. As well as asking the same to forever girlfriends 🤭

Exactly. If you know and can see and feel that your man is wonderful- why would you ever feel threatened by a woman refusing to settle?

Yes, thank you for this. It bothered me at first, and then I spoke to my friends in healthy and happy relationships and they said they were not triggered by my discussing weaponised incompetence because I had spoken about that before my last relationship. They weren’t bothered by my saying that I didn’t want to settle because they don’t want me to settle either. And that’s what helped me to realise why this PickMeisha was so upset. It isn’t really about me. It’s about her parent’s marriage, divo…

Yep, the women with good husbands get it. The ones with shitty men get rustled. My PickMeisha friend that I’m distancing myself from gets SOOOOOO mad when I’ve said this because she takes it as a personal attack. Girl, I’m not thinking about your man. If you hear about a woman not willing to settle and automatically jump to thinking that means I’m saying you’ve settled…look at your life, your choices.

I like the “why are you asking this?” answer. Do we ask people “why are you still married?”

My ex SIL had an elective C-section and refused to breast feed because she didn’t want to “ruin her husband’s favourite parts” of her body by doing so. They were my ex BIL’s “playground” 🤢

This is a good reminder, thank you. Often when they say this, they are viewing you as a concept and not seeing you for who you really are.

I decided to go no contact with my father, and my ex would make fun of mg daddy issues. When I pointed out that he and his siblings all hated their father, he was adamant that he didn’t have daddy issues because at least his dad was there.

Yep, agreed. I also notice on Facebook groups for women, when someone asks for relationship advice and it’s obvious that their partner is a NVM, there’s always some Pick Mes commenting “why is everyone’s first idea to jump to saying she should leave him??! Why does nobody stick out relationships anymore?? Leaving isn’t always the answer and shouldn’t be the first option!” Ugh.

I swear they all read from the same handbook. For most of my relationship with my ex, I didn’t drink coffee. I began to drink black coffee, either espresso or iced, at the end of the relationship. He would constantly tell me how weird it was, how weird I was and being me HIS coffee order. I didn’t understand why he was so persnickety about it- I never forced him to drink it and it’s an easy order to remember. They just want to get away with being a douche.

I used to tell my ex that I preferred silver or platinum jewellery. I bought a pair of rose gold earrings ONCE to wear to a wedding and suddenly he kept telling everyone that I loved rose gold. He got mad that he had to get my engagement ring re-designed as he had asked the jeweller to make it in rose gold, as that was my favourite.

I only share my standards now with women who are interested in, and have demonstrated that they are levelling up. Example- I’ve had men tell me that wanting a man who eats vegetables of his own accord is asking for too much (unless I only want to date vegans) 🤡 I’m learning to be more private and keep my business to myself. People will try to talk you out of having standards so they feel better about their own poor choices. Misery loves company, after all.

Exactly. This is what bothers me about that type of wokeness. A woman displaying fierceness or anger can’t be a mama bear- that’s reserved for a male bear! Wtf? Why did Che have to change that sentence? It’s almost like playing Pokémon- “Che hurt themselves with their own wokeness!” So arse backwards.

I considered that, but I didn’t want him to see my profile because I had blocked him on everything else. I did try dating apps again after that date, and he kept making profiles that liked me, which ew…but at least his newer profiles stated his real age and that he had one child and didn’t want anymore.

I think, also, if you’re someone like me who has spent a lot of their career working with children- you need to watch out for useless fathers who want you to step in and become a live in babysitter right away.

I would consider dating someone who is divorced, after a lot of vetting. At this stage, I won’t date men with children. I am childless and want my own children (I have a sperm donor lined up for late next year). I went on one date with a single dad after breaking up with my ex fiancé. He told he wanted to have more children in the future. I blocked and deleted him after some weird, negging messages. I later saw him post in a FB group that he has had a vasectomy as he was “one and done”. He lied,…

I’ve had that response as well! I’ve said that I enjoy yoga, weight lifting, nature walks/hikes with my dog, live music, exploring new cafes and restaurants with friends and they were gobsmacked. The ones that had that response- their only hobby was video games, mindlessly scrolling social media (which, hey, I’m guilty of, but it’s not the only thing I do) and scratching their butt. They’re intimidated because they’re boring.

I’d be interested in someone posting this and swapping genders (once people have forgotten this post) and comparing the responses. I already know how different the responses will be, I’d just like to see it confirmed.

I agree. Don’t be petty, he will only drag you down to his level. Just leave and be happy with the knowledge that he’s a dirty scrote and you’re now clean. My ex fiancé refused to change the toilet paper roll. He would take the empty roll off the holder and throw it on the floor. Wouldn’t put the empty roll in the bin next to the sink. Wouldn’t reach over and pick up a fresh roll from the stock that I kept in the toilet. I communicated with him, I showed him step by step what I wanted him to do.…

I was also told the same thing about eHarmony and had a similar experience. Men who didn’t meet my filters, who were too young or too old for me, messaging and asking me for a hook up. Just no.

This sounds so much like my ex. His mother would say anyone who hadn’t attended or graduated from University is a moron (knowing that included both of her sons), and he would just sit there nodding. When I stood up for him, he would tell me that his mother is entitled to an opinion and that she was right. Except that whole “people who have a degree are smarter than everyone else” didn’t apply to me being more intelligent than him 🙃

I agree. Don’t let them tell you what standards to have. I was out the other weekend when a married man brought up the topic of porn and I mentioned that I don’t watch it anymore due to how it damages the brain (a lot of people don’t care about the other aspects). He said I’m insecure because I’m single and it’s not damaging because he watches it with his wife. I stopped watching it 2.5 years ago when I was engaged and I’d rather be single than married to a man who has to watch porn every time w…

Yep, as soon as a man finds out I like to cook, they will immediately ask what I am going to make for them. When I state that I only cook for friends and family, they become aggressive.

I have looked into this and have found a sperm donor that I wish to use next year. I would be open to co-parenting with a single gay male or gay male couple, but the ones that I have spoken to aren’t looking for that arrangement.

This is why, when people say a man being close with his mother is a green flag- there’s so many other things to take into consideration there. It can be a good thing, but emotional incest is so rampant that you can’t assume his speaking well of his mother = HVM

This is so true. My LV ex was enmeshed with his mum, and I didn’t realise how bad it was until we were engaged. The last straw for me came when she started messaging me disgusting rants (again) because he didn’t want to go to a family BBQ and blamed me for his non-attendance. She said that I had won the battle but would lose the war as she had loved him before he was even born. Once she said that, he did a 180 and had to do as she wanted. He said it was a deal breaker if I wasn’t best friends wi…

I’ve had this too. Men (some have said they’re shy) will talk at me on a date and I’ll sneak in a joke or comment that they will laugh at and pretend they thought of. After a while of them talking at me, I’ll just listen quietly and make a note to never speak to them again.

This was my ex’s “get out of jail free card”. ~but that wasn’t my iNtEnTiOn~ Okay, that’s great that you haven’t stayed up all night plotting something evil (legit that was the only way he thought it counted to hurt someone). But I keep telling you that these actions hurt me, and they’ve hurt your co-workers so you need to check something if your intentions are so pure and then your actions repeatedly hurt people. His get out of jail free card was just a way to spin it back onto me. Oh well, he …

I had a first date last year, after being engaged for five years. So I was dipping my toes into the pool. This man told me, on the first date, that his ex wife had cheated on him multiple times and that she had gotten pregnant to someone else. He said he’d stay with her if she had a termination but then he said she said he didn’t support her so she ended it. He also showed me photos of their wedding and how she was cheating on him then. He told me about his issues with his mother and father. He …

A single male told me last year that my “willingly eats vegetables” requirement for men was asking too much, as men don’t eat vegetables unless a woman forces them to or they’re vegetarian/vegan 🙄

My NVM ex would say he did everything around the house because I asked him to do the weekly grocery shop. He wanted to shop at Aldi and that doesn’t do online delivery. So someone had to go and do the groceries, and I have less time as I both work and study full time. I would explain to him that when I did the grocery shop by myself, I would look around the house for items that need replenishing and write those on the list. He would expect me to keep a running inventory in my head and never chec…

I have blocked him on everything but I know he is mad that I have been on dates before he has, even if I haven’t dated anyone. So he and his friends and family will be talking about how I didn’t deserve him, that we were on different levels. They’re right. I have ambition and drive. I’m well travelled. I have a good career with good opportunities for growth. I keep fit. I am on such a higher level than a slob with no further education, no room to advance his career and a receding hairline.

I rarely get sick. The last illness I had before my split, I was coughing so badly and so much that I threw up. I couldn’t sleep. felt bad that I was keeping him up with my coughing that I slept on the couch. He would tell me the next morning how annoying it was to hear me coughing throughout the night. Not as I was annoyed or tired because of coughing all night!

Thank you for posting this. I wish I had seen this two years ago, but I will take the lessons learned from a four year relationship and broken engagement with a LVM than 10 years and a divorce. I never told anyone that on the night I told him I was pregnant, he ran off to play cricket because he didn’t want to be late and make his brother mad. I never told my friends because if anyone had said that to me, I would have told them to have some self-respect and leave. I was embarrassed that he had d…
