First of all fuck you for saying you are ready for downvotes (it is just pathetic.) Second of all, grandparents are probably way more amazing than they are horrible. Sure there are statistically grandparents that are bad, but I would wager there are way more grandparents that are amazing.

Family is not always biological. Personally I have people as close to me as immediate family without a blood relation. And definitely closer than extended family.

This is implying that men cheat (which they do), not that only men cheat. I really don't want to live in an androgynous world, to be completely honest.

Interestingly enough, these pissing contests only help the people at the very top of the movements. An real life oppressed woman doesn't get less oppressed when men's rights are ignored or put down.

I think women are sexually objectified more (perhaps a lot more than men), and unfortunately sexual objectification has become synonymous with objectification. Men are objectified for their money, and their willingness to put themselves in extreme danger.

Even a few years ago, this request would be irrational due to cost. But now, especially doing it en masse would cost almost nothing. There is a danger of false negatives, though I think that would just require one more test to verify the accuracy.

This should not be downvoted. Institutionalized discrimination is a real thing. Saying that it cannot exist is extremely naive. Dismissing this argument is also naive. Facts, not emotional arguments are the only way to counteract this, because face it, winning on emotional argument doesn't seem likely.

"kids these days" Just think about that. It isn't kids these days, its "parents these days." People don't magically know what to do about a lot of higher level concepts like education, financial security, etc. They need to be, and must be taught by their parents. I do agree though, you need to start making the right choices really early.

Just because life isn't fair, doesn't mean you always have to be on the "unfair" side. Make the right choices early and when you enter the workforce you have a lot more options.

"Deserves to be forgiven," that is an interesting phrase. I think she deserves to be forgiven, when she shows that she is actually sorry for what she did (independent of how much money she has payed back.) This however has very little to do with consequences. If someone stole my bike, I could forgive them, but I would at minimum want my bike back. And possibly more based on their motivation for stealing it. Unfortunately in this case, it most likely won't be her paying him back it will be the ta…

You obviously do not understand either the OP or my posts. I think both rape and murder are worse than circumcision. I'm not sure what you are trying to say. It almost seemed like you were trying to imply that rape was worse than murder, which I find baffling if that is the case.

I barely know how to respond to this. Do you know what an analogy is? I am perfectly fine with you disliking my post history on a subject, but I would assume if you put that much effort, you would put effort into making a real, and effective argument.
/r/MensRights27/05/12 09:49 AM

I was attacking the analogy. In this case yes, the situations have to be analogous, because its a fucking analogy. And a terrible one. However, I am human as well. I can accept or reject anything I want. I "must" do nothing.

Jesus christ, you actually believe that FGM is the same as circumcision. FGM is: removal of the clitoral hood, removal of the clitoris, removal of the labia, or worse (each are differing levels of FGM.) All of these are incomparable to male circumcision. At best you could say that removal of the clitoral hood is the same as removing the foreskin, though I would absolutely disagree with you. It isn't a straw man, I was quoting you. Anyway, a strawman argument is something entirely different. You …

Is it ironic that you resorted to childish name calling in your post, or just coincidental?
/r/MensRights22/05/12 10:59 AM

Yes, if we disagree on terms, then it is best to end the discussion. You agree with me so I'm not sure why you focus on it. There is no "winning", you seem to make up things on the spot to suit your goal, whatever it is. You apparently do not believe that circumsized men can enjoy sex, I have to say that is a debate ender itself. I'm pretty sure even most hardcore anti-circumcision advocates wouldn't go that far. You were the one who compared male circumcision to cutting off an earlobe, not me.
/r/MensRights22/05/12 10:38 AM
1

If you do not understand the difference between male and female circumcision I will not argue with you about it, as it would be fruitless. Men, specifically in america, have been circumcised for a long time. Reproduction is happening, sexual pleasure is happening. That to me sounds functional. It is interesting that your mutilation argument was cutting off the earlobes, seeing as they serve very little purpose to human functionality. I'm not sure why you argued in my favor, but I'll take it.
/r/MensRights22/05/12 10:15 AM

Yeah, that is kinda my point circumcision is a controversial topic, and you claim to be able to make neutral posts about it (that isn't irony by the way.) Female circumcision and male circumcision are simply not the same. Just because they use the same english word, doesn't mean they are the same. "Genital cutting" is non-offensive. Genital-mutilation, is. Calling it mutilation is saying that even though you have a perfectly functional penis, it is mutilated. Which is incorrect. If someone has a…

I'm telling you stuff that you don't want to hear as well. I would love to see a neutral post on circumcision, especially when you use words like mutilation and stupid here. You keep using the word "stupid." My guess is you don't actually understand how most people feel when you label them as such. I find it interesting that you are so quick to judge my own ability at introspection. Perhaps you should do a little bit of introspection yourself, and discover your own real motivations before trying to divine my motivations. In /r/MR saying something "stupid" about circumcision simply means I disagreed. In my view, men's rights is about being able to say my own mind about all the topics that men deal with. What are you talking about? I am not talking about people being unable to see their children, or people being sexually crippled. By the way, calling people who are circumcised both mutilated and crippled is probably the worst way to get people to look at your arguments objectively. Imagine if you were called mutilated for something you had no control over, but also didn't actually impact your life in any way. Would you respond positively?
/r/MensRights22/05/12 07:40 AM

Wow, saying that masculinity is the root of problems is incredibly offensive. From the article it sounded like they were talking about "extreme" masculinity, which I could somewhat understand, I didn't realize the FAQ just unequivocally said masculinity was evil.

Judging by my own awareness at at least age 5+, and knowing what a dog was at that age, I would have found a leash degrading. My guess is that even before that I would at least semi-consciously understand it, though my memory is poor. edit: Also, I actually enjoyed the human connection of holding a parent's hand.
/r/MensRights06/05/12 12:08 PM

I dunno, sounds like normal parenting to me. It is physically impossible to be in control of your child 24/7. They wander away, and you let them know that they shouldn't do that. The only real other option is to use a leash, and that is degrading to both of them.

I think calling it a mother thing is dismissing mother's who aren't assholes. Granted I'm not a mother, but I think those types of people are a minority. You don't hear about most of the cases where people help a child, and the parent is grateful and everyone moves on happy. Unfortunately even a few cases is all it takes to fuck it up for the rest of us.

But Kermyt Anderson, a fatherhood expert from the University of Oklahoma, says there is no such thing as a male biological clock. Men can continue to produce offspring well into their 70s. And socially, “there doesn't seem to be this kind of pressure” to procreate, says Anderson. “Women are much more defined by their fertility.” I disagree that men don't have a ticking clock, and I disagree that offspring are less important to men.

/r/MensRights07/04/12 11:14 PM

I was simply responding to the point in the article that because men can have children into their 70s that means there isn't a ticking clock for them to have a child earlier. I don't understand what you mean by faithlessness though, could you clarify?
/r/MensRights07/04/12 10:54 PM
-2

Just because men can father a child at 70, doesn't mean it is a good thing to do, especially if you want to actually be alive for your child's life. I don't know if there is a biological clock, but there is a biological need in many men to want children, and there is a physical clock that keeps ticking.

Slightly strong? In /r/mensrights if you do not thrust yourself into the idea that circumcision is the worst thing on the planet, you are dismissed immediately. If you think I'm wrong then I suggest you look at the previous discussions that involve circumcision.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 07:17 AM
1

If it is irrational to be "scared" of a word, then what is the reason to change it? The fact is the reason the OP wants to change it from circumcision to mutilation is to evoke an emotional response. Hell yeah I'm scared of emotion trumping reason, it happens way to much and can have dire consequences. I also liked the part where you weren't even able to explain it like I was five. I guess it is a little bit more complex.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 05:59 AM
0

If you think that it is mutilation that is offensive, then you need to work on your own social skills to communicate that reasoning without belittling and mocking people who do not 100% agree with you. You instantly turn to abrasive and hurtful tactics when you see someone who simply states their own opinion. It is ironic that you are actually actively working against what you claim to support.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 05:34 AM
-2

Absolutely, explain it to me like I'm five. Because at this point I will never be anti-circumcision is because I don't want to associate myself with the fanatical, hateful and irrational people who are. It reminds me of the worst kind of feminist, the people who would crucify their own people if it furthered their cause.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 05:06 AM

/r/MensRights01/04/12 03:12 AM

Mutilation is severe and debilitating. I do not consider my penis to be debilitated from circumcision. If I could no longer get an erection, or could not feel pleasure I would consider it mutilated.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 02:37 AM

Removing 5% of someone's brain is not comparable to removing 5% of their finger. Likewise, removing 5% of one organ is not comparable to removing 5% of another. It is kinda funny because it sounds like you want me to convince you or something.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 02:25 AM

Fine, as soon as I get my clitoris or labia removed I will concede that it is mutilation.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 01:20 AM

Adding circumcision to mutilation does not clarify, it confuses and is intensionally designed to be emotional, not accurate. Circumsized is the undenyably more precise of a term, and it is my opinion more accurate. Comparing the removal of the clitoris to male circumcision is simply, wrong.

/r/MensRights01/04/12 01:02 AM

/r/MensRights01/04/12 12:52 AM

The reason you would call it mutilation is to actually create an emotional response, not to mitigate it.
/r/MensRights01/04/12 12:42 AM

Actually a lot of current shows have both men and women being stupid, sex crazed and violent. In fact family guy is a good example of equally making fun of both genders. Hell, they have made rape jokes about men too. And seeing how IRL both men and women are often times retarded, it would be silly for media (specifically comedy) not to characterize this.

I think the fact is that Gamestop can sell more by doing this, and there are no shortage of young people without work, so they can be picky. I would hope that companies take a higher ground in situations like these, but my guess is that they are hurting financially. Why go to a physical store when you can just buy it online? So you do what you can to attract people to your store, especially if a majority of those people are teenage boys. Maybe the solution is to find a way to sell better to girl…

Well, having feminism and women hating men right next to each other implied differently. Getting past the idea that women hate men (well I'm sure some do) will do wonders for the men's rights movement. The fact is that probably more men say "man up" than women. This is not a women vs men, this is a societal issue, and until it is addressed as such, progress will be slow at best.

/r/MensRights05/03/12 06:50 AM

Totally agree. Just like there are a lot of women were are anti-women's rights still, there are a lot of men who are anti-men's rights. It makes no sense to alienate people of either gender, because to be honest it is about people who can see what is wrong, not just men who can see what is wrong. My point is that assuming someone thinks a certain way simply based on their gender is pretty obviously false, especially when it comes to gender issues.
/r/MensRights05/03/12 06:50 AM

I'm not sure what the issue is here. Using "that time of the month", whether an excuse for the woman to avoid doing something, or as an attack against a woman happens often enough for those things to have their own name.

MRM, just like feminism should not be an Us vs Them situation, and the best way to prevent that is to not have a homogenized group. It is really important to have second order perspective to prevent a movement from becoming only about anger and to make a movement more relateble to the general populace. Oh and don't take "second order" as a negative, there are plenty of men who aren't directly affected, but still want to support those who are.
/r/MensRights17/02/12 10:58 PM

I think most commercials in general hover between low brow and retarded. Anyway there are plenty of TV shows where men are portrayed the same as women (whether they are portrayed as morons or as somewhat normal.)
/r/MensRights17/02/12 07:47 AM
-6

Obviously it is a feminist conspiracy. Anyway if you want an example where only boys are considered victims, look at the catholic priest scandals. Even though plenty of young girls were and are also victimized, the only focus is on the boys. That said, obviously this has gotten zero coverage, so perhaps a little emotional ranting is needed to bring this discrepancy to light.
/r/MensRights17/02/12 07:16 AM

The topic as I understand it is who the primary victims are, not lessening the pain of the dead.

I'm not opposed to gender studies. I think it can be as important as other subjects, as long as it is taught like other subjects. Boys are already below average in lower education, and possibly in higher education now so I'm not sure what the benefit would be in having a girl favored gender studies. What would actually be beneficial would be a 20 year scientific study on why women are severely underrepresented in STEM. I remember in university the number of women dropping from probably 40% to 5%…
/r/MensRights09/02/12 09:00 AM

I understand that, but that just discounts the moments right before death when they actually do feel anguish. If our judgments are made on how people feel now then you could say that a murderer on trial suffers more than the murder victim, because the victim is dead and the murderer has to suffer the trial and prison/death row, which would be a fucked up thing to say.
/r/MensRights09/02/12 06:27 AM

If they truly believe it is worse to be alive than dead, that really isn't a difficult problem to solve. My guess is they may say that, but they don't actually believe it.

No matter what way you cut it, someone innocent is getting fucked over. To be honest I would almost say just ask the kid what they want, because clearly adults cannot make a correct decision. Pitting both men against each other is especially shitty though.

The actual events are actually irrelevant. To be honest I don't think anything should be off limits to comedians, however the fact is that it is acceptable for even the most tame comedy to include violence against a man by a woman is accepted when violence against a woman by a man would be lambasted. Ok, I didn't read past the 1st paragraph either.

A lot of guys like how women look in heels. So they wear heels. No one forces them to, just like we have no information that this guy was forced to lend her his shoes.

You don't get tetanus or some infection because you take off your shoes. Anyway I assume there was already tension in your relationship, because if the relationship was going well otherwise you kinda acted like an asshole there.
/r/MensRights04/02/12 10:01 AM

I see nothing wrong with this. I like when women wear high heels occasionally so they sacrifice a little comfort to look good and make me happy and I sacrifice a little comfort at the end of the night. Walking in socks is not some terrible tragedy of pain.

Cherry picking obviously retarded and outlandish things does not enrich r/MR. It is easy to cherry pick stupid anti-women statements by men, and I would hope that we wouldn't think it was representative of men as a whole. It happens with pretty much every movement, it has and will happen with mensrights movement. The trick is to recognize and temper it. The problem is that a lot of times the more radical people are also the most outspoken, even if it no longer represents what the movement wants to accomplish.

"If you think male circumcision is okay, then why is female circumcision outlawed?" How I could address this statement differently so that you wouldn't think I was straw manning? That is a ridiculous argument. Male and female genitals are very different, and trying to say that they are the same from a medical sense is frankly, wrong. I'm not commenting on the procedures themselves, but I see this fuzzy thinking a lot on reddit when an emotional topic comes up.

Just because there may be no effort to correct the areas where men are underrepresented, doesn't mean there should be no effort put to areas where women are underrepresented. And in fact by getting women to refocus, it kinda automatically works. There are only so many people, and population wise its 50/50. Probably the biggest reason is that I would enjoy not being surrounded by only guys all the time. The second reason is, why not? Maybe not 50%, but something at least. Thankfully where I work there is enough cultural diversity to be interesting. I can't imagine working in a place with all white american born men (im a white american born man, so substitute your race/country/gender) engineers. To be honest, I don't think america (assuming that is where you are, though my guess is it is similar no matter what country you are in) is lacking in sociologists. STEM careers in america are seriously lacking women. What if some can't deal with it, and that is why they shy away? I think there could be some value in having a place for the girls to not have to deal with the social aspects and be able to focus on the science. I'm not saying this is ideal, but there is a critical lack of women in many STEM fields. Thinking about it though, I think a better solution is to make sure that kids of either gender who love science are recognized and can be put in the same classes. If girls find it intimidating in highschool, wait till they get a job. IMO one of the biggest reasons that men act poorly to women in scitech (well from my experience tech) is that they don't often interact with women. The solution is absolutely not to segregate women away from men. To be honest though, if this does get more women in these fields, I would fully support it.

Unfortunately people who have strong convictions (which is not a bad thing) often times respond poorly to criticism (or even people who hold different views than them.) However, driving every woman away by assuming they all think the same (this title tried to imply hypocrisy where I didn't see any to exist) is a terrible thing. MR can only "work" if both men and women are behind it.

Imagine if they said up to 45% of white people would be released, and may consider giving non-whites the same deal in the future. There would be a shit storm.

I don't understand why being pressured into sex is innately a bad thing. Hell, simply asking someone if they want to have sex is pressuring them.

This is actually somewhat surprising. You cannot get unemployment if you refuse work. Obviously you would be required to support your children, but those are generally very fixed costs (clothes, food, school) that we have tons of data on and only really vary with location, and not based on parents' salary.

The crime was inappropriate relations between student and teacher. Which as long as everyone is of age is a complete bullshit crime. I'm actually kinda surprised that texas makes this a crime punishable by jailtime regardless of the students' ages. Criminalization of otherwise legal activities simply drives those activities underground and increases risk for everyone involved.

I agree that there is definitely a chance for evil with this (but no more than ebay, dumping, destroying, etc that can be done otherwise), but I was specifically referring to the ops case where the SO is given a chance to reclaim property.

What do you mean they don't keep data on this? Are you saying that if a baby dies they don't even try and figure out why it died? At least from the linked article it seems that generally circumcision is only a part of the problem. As in a baby has heart problems, and was circumcised. I'm not discounting that circumcision could for some reason cause, or at least increase the risk of death in this case, but a baby having a bad heart is not going to be in a good situation either way.
/r/MensRights25/05/11 10:53 AM

Poorly done procedures, procedures done on babies that have other medical problems, a doctor that actually was sent to jail for terrible negligence. To be honest I would prefer we move away from circumcision, but (apart from the website being terrible) this is like highschool at best level science reporting.

The legal ramifications of getting involved in other people's business (real or imagined) is a large problem. If I walk by and "don't notice" then I can move on with my life. Same reason why if I see a young kid without a parent I will turn around and walk away immediately.

I'm not talking about who makes the choice, or when, I'm talking about the act itself. The choice to circumcise your son is not "mutilation", it would be the actual circumcision that holds that label. Just like the choice to get your ears pierced doesn't actually mean anything until you follow through with it.
/r/MensRights21/05/11 10:13 PM

Calling it mutilation ranges from silly to offensive. I mean if I told someone who has their ears pierced "mutilated," it's doubtful that they would respond positively to that.

The real question is, would jail time help or harm in this case (regardless of gender). To be honest I'm not sure, but one thing I do know is that our prison system is both incredibly costly, and very fucked up. For non-violent offenses I would rather err on this side (for everyone obviously) than err on the prison, screwed for life so they continue being criminals because they can't get a job method.

Why would you blame anyone? If someone chooses to play video games for hours after a long day of work that is his choice. If someone decides to have the stereotypical "adult" life then that is his choice as well. In fact, to me it seems that getting married young is the more irresponsible choice for a guy or a girl.

I guess that is kinda my point. You can't stop them from drinking, so you might as well not make them hide it. I know plenty of kids who would drive drunk to parties just to hide it from their parents. I know there would be plenty who would anyway because "adults" do it as well, but why give these kids extra incentive to make bad choices?

I don't think all women react exactly the same way to hormones, just like all men don't react the same way. So while gender may confer some base level of understanding, I don't think it confers some universal understanding. God knows I don't know how every other guy will react to every situation.
