I'd like to think that I'm not speaking here with arrogance, given my detailed knowledge of Roman and European history. I agree with you that in modern times, men are worse off in all respects. Due to arguments presented on this page, I have corrected my views and I now understand that in pre-modern history, men were still worse off. I'm figuring that equality is equality of opportunity, as opposed to equality of outcome. Equality before the law is my definition of equality. We can come to a conclusion of that in foreign countries and in pre-modern countries because we can know about the written law and the de-facto law. Both men and women were discriminated, but women more so than men. That's an over generalization. European history has many different countries, with many different religious, political, and economic phases. There are periods when both sexes had absolutely no rights, but they both had great responsibilities. There are periods when the nobility had all the political rights and power, but they did not have to work. You can't just equate rights with responsibilities because there was in fact injustice in European history for just about everyone, including women.

Those are very valid points. However, under a draft, a majority of the military is not in direct combat or carrying a gun on a battlefield. Most support the guys with guns or are in ships or the air force. If women aren't strong enough for combat, they'll be in other parts. But they should still be registered for the draft.

I fucking love how John Stewart handled this. He called her out on the fact that women are 51% of the vote, he bashed the audience for its double standard humor, and did everything that I would have wanted to do if I was in that situation. He didn't attack the gender wage gap, but even for a smart host like Jon Stewart, it'd be hard to convince the audience of that one (having to reference statistics and all). 10/10 interview.
