Some people definitely can and do, depending on the reason of the divorce and such. Though, I don’t think it’s possible for most.

If you can go 21 days, they say that helps break the cycle. Part of it is hard, especially since that’s a natural stress relief. I have written it off until my divorce is final, but it’s given me some struggles at times also. I’ve noticed it comes in waves, and if you can occupy yourself and push through the waves, it helps and eventually dies down.

It would take some MASSIVE changes, and time. I don’t even think then I could. Too much has been said and done.

I’d consider checking with Meriwether and Tharp

I mean, I won’t be broke entirely. Though, I have my parents helping a lot

You can stay! You’re still a divorced man! Plus, being on the other end, you can provide hope to some of us who are still in the thick. Definitely glad for you to be able to move on with your life.

But I do the gym now to help, self improvement also. Time with friends and family helps.

I focused on my custody case. I game with friends. I don’t think I’ve focused too much on the loss of my relationship, couldn’t afford that when custody is on the line.

I mean, I won’t have a party. I will be glad when this is settled and I can move on, but I anticipate many modification hearings and a long road. Additionally, I won’t be happy that my son has a split household. It is better than one chaotic house, but still, I don’t think it’s a celebration.

Yes. No intentions. Need to focus on my son and myself. Eventually, maybe. Not now.

Educate yourself self. Divorce team radio. Not much you can do by then, but they have a few episodes to help. Try to keep emotions out of it. Facts only. I’m sorry for your situation.

It is definitely an uphill battle. And it doesn’t seem super equitable in most situations. However, I have heard most of the success for men is years down the road when the children are older and see more of it. I’m not sure if your wife has used divorce poison, or what, but you gotta keep showing up for the kids. Definitely seems to lopsided for the women.

Yeah, then I’d strongly consider her offer. If you’re happy with out. Don’t stress about what could have been, focus on being rid of the stress and being able to have a happy life.

Yeah, I’m taking most of the debt (90%), but to me it’s not worth arguing about. I just want to be over it and be a game plan to be free of the debt in 1-2 years. I want my attorney, the court, and myself to focus on custody only. It isn’t fair about the debt, and her getting most of the savings, but it’s not worth arguing to me.
/r/Divorce_Men02/01/26 10:48 PM

It depends also on how done you want to be with it all. If you’re financially stable and want to be over it, take it. If you’re tight, or want to move, or anything, then don’t.

It is brutal. I make the most of each second with my son. I fight to see them as much as I can, as our divorce isn’t final yet. I also spend some time when I am not with him trying to make my place better for him or keeping it clean, so the time with him is more quality .

I’m sorry you’re going through this and at this point. It’s good you are reaching out. You’re not alone. If you need anything, you can always message me.

It’s not physically stopping it, but stating you are not okay with it that way they can’t say you were okay with the kids leaving.

This is sadly, very true.

Additionally, do not allow her to “visit her parents for space” as she can take one night and try to twist it to establish moving. Especially, across state lines, even if you have it documented that it was in no way meant for that.

My wife and I started our divorce in March, and our son is currently 16 months old. I’d definitely start making sure you’re at all doctor appointments, make a list of how you help with day-to-day activities like bath time.

I’d recommend Divorce Team Radio. It’s a podcast and They have a few episodes about how to prepare and if it’s right. Also, I’d start documenting things and making an inventory if you start to lean towards divorce, in case it goes south.

Start documenting things and making an inventory. In the event it goes south, you need to be ready. Best of luck.

Yeah, but I also feel I did some things too rash. I just think having clarity is best. Sometimes urgency is needed, and there’s times where I wish I was more urgent, but also times where I wish I was less urgent.

I used a co-parent coach briefly. However, it would’ve been better earlier in the divorce. There are a few divorce coaches I follow on TikTok and such and have gotten good tips from.

Sadly. And if you get the special kind of trouble, it won’t even end when your children are 18, married, and living their own lives.
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 01:41 PM

It never ends. Sadly. Sorry my guy.
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 01:18 PM

I would not. And don’t down play yourself. I don’t know the entire situation, but the child is not always best with the mother. A child needs a loving parent. Present not perfect.

I agree with this. I mean, for some people it works, but prostitution isn’t for me. I’d rather a more reliable, but casual commitment. Usually a Fwb also offers some sort of mental/emotional outlet if it’s a true “friend” with benefits also.

Man, I am sorry. This is what I’m afraid of. I hope things change up for ya, I feel for ya.

Definitely plenty worth living for, namely your child; however, it’s time to cut and run from her I feel.

I just kept it as her first name and only that. That way if our son see it, he doesn’t see something I wouldn’t want as a name.

Oh! Thanks for the resources! My attorney and I are filing for GAL and believe 50/50 is reasonable. I definitely document and save each receipt. Thank you for the great words. I read your reply, but will likely read them again to make sure I take it all in. I will google your resources also so I can watch/listen to them.

Sadly, it will take time, and even then you’ll have moments of pang. Meetup is a site that you can look at that has events going on where you can occupy yourself. Don’t stay alone, call family or friends when you can

I recommend listening to a few episodes of Divorce Team Radio. They are a podcast that has tips on mediation, lawyers, and which path is helpful. Make sure you don’t let your emotions or and guilt cause an issue that will reoccur for years. It might be what’s best, but make sure it’s done right.

Is hard going through this, especially having such a close connection and then being done. It doesn’t just vanish. Find someone to help you, maybe a friend or family member you can call up instead, or something to help distract you or keep you away. It’s hard, but moving on is needed. It’s best for you, her, and mainly, the kids.
/r/Divorce_Men29/07/25 06:34 PM

But, I’m not saying don’t advocate for yourself. Do it. You need to. But find an attorney that matches what you want. I love my attorney and while I do understand it is his job, I do think he wants what’s best for me and my son.

Some of them definitely are, but there are some who aren’t. Divorce Team Radio is a podcast I listen to that helps me navigate my divorce. There are a few episodes that provide insight as to what you should ask prospective attorneys and when it’s time to switch. They also have some that help with DIY divorces. They are GA based, but the questions they recommend to ask are good for any state.

Thank you, that’s encouraging. I’m definitely fighting for him. She’s making it grueling and constantly blaming me; but I know the truth. It’s funny, we started off with mediation, and she refused to give in on parenting time, and said we took too long, so she filed, and all that did was slow it down more. Though, that’s my fault because I forced her to create a timeline or something lol. There’s just no winning, but I don’t matter as long as as I get my son.

The kids do need to see their dad, if he can be a father. Don’t make them seeing him overlook things. If he isn’t safe or ready, then wait. It’s better to wait and it be good memories than to rush and then to learn to fear him.

No history of violence, but I do think it was too late when I found out she was listening to people who were anti us and twisted everything. Then, I got tired of mentally and emotionally being worn down, and think she sees it’s too late. It was sad when I realized it was done. The end of my marriage, and seeing my son, my joy, for half his life, when I want the full experience. I didn’t sign up to be a part-time father.

I definitely agree to push for 50/50, and with the current state of society, 20 miles isn’t too much. I think it’ll be easier to obtain 50/50 later if you can show you wanted it, and who knows, you may likely get it. At least get in paper the agreement if you do intend to stick to your original post.

I would recommend at least a consultation with an attorney before you do this. It does seem logical, but check for circumstances that may affect this. A consultation now may help save you a lot in the future.

We all need to vent sometimes. Thank you for your service. Possibly find a new lawyer. Divorce Team Radio is a podcast I listen to, and they have an episode or two about good questions to ask a potential lawyer. Don’t let one poor experience defeat everything. Your kids are worth it. Your future with them is worth it. If you can’t pay it, you need to fight to lower it, before any of your fears happen and you receive less child custody, or less of chance to obtain any.

I’d recommend Splitting bh Bill Eddy, also there are courses to help you navigate this. You can’t panic, you need to prepare.

But to answer your question, document everything you can. The more you can prove, the better you can obtain 50/50 or disprove anything she may claim.

I HIGHLY recommend the book Splitting by Bill Eddy. You can get it on audiobook (free on Spotify) or a physical copy. I definitely recommend it and take notes.

My wife and I are currently going through a divorce, we just had our first kid and I’m the oldest at 31. Physically, I suppose she’s still attractive, and but if she ever offered anything sexual, I’d decline. I’m repulsed by her based on how she has acted and handled this. It would take some serious need for me to attempt anything sexual with her, and it would mainly be due to the fact that I really have no intention of seeking sexual acts from others until this over. I have been able to kind of…

I get ya, two of my “close” friends instantly spun and told her everything I said. One time, I asked if my “friend’s” wife heard anything about hope of making it work, within an hour it was me looking for dirt that. One of the “friends” was even a guy we were best men in each others weddings. So, I get ya. Talking to strangers does help, because it’s highly unlikely they can spun/repeat/ anything else the info back to the x

Divorce Team Radio, a podcast, has an episode on GAL’s I’d recommend listening to. It’s a bit dated, but the information is still valuable.
/r/Divorce_Men22/07/25 02:29 PM

Worst is she can definitely misconstrue the assets, claim to be unable to work, and ask for alimony. Resulting in keeping hidden assets, obtaining ongoing money from you, and making you miserable for more years after definitely a rough situation to be in, but don’t give up! Consider a different attorney. Document every asset you can now, and try to find paper trails of other assets, assuming they have significant value.

You’re not alone. Make sure you don’t hold up and shut out the world. Stay in touch with friends and family, but keep your guard up on anyone who is mutual. You’ll make it through
/r/Divorce_Men21/07/25 12:17 AM

Be honest. You can admit flaws, but state how you will improve on them. Show interactions and knowledge of kids. DO NOT make it into a bash session for your ex or soon to be ex. Keep it focused on the kids and their best interest.

She could be trying to stress you out, emotionally manipulating you, or possibly a personalities disorder. I would recommend checking Splitting by Bill Eddy. Alternatively, she could me emotionally nervous and ashamed or feeling guilty and wants to avoid it. All of this is assuming there is no history of violence. Lawyers don’t have to make it hostile , many that are resolution focused emphasize mediation.
