| -1 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’My actual involvement is that I'm fairly good friends with a member of the club and I have no intentions of joining. I don't know how you want me to prove it. I'll agree that some of the rhetoric used by the club is wrong, especially the quotes in the article. But those quotes are extremes and don't accurately represent the group. | /r/MensRights | 01/10/16 03:47 PM |
| -2 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’So I misspoke when I said this. It would be more appropriate for me to say "deconstruct the need for such a sense of masculinity exclusively." Men should feel free to be as masculine or feminine as they like. | /r/MensRights | 01/10/16 01:03 AM |
| 0 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’You're putting a ridiculous amount of words in my mouth. The courts discrimination against men is terrible, especially in child custody cases. One of my close family friends, who is a male, fought a 4 year long legal battle to gain custody of his daughter from her negligent mother. It was infuriating to see how terrible of a mother she was and still watch him have to go through hoops in order to get custody of his daughter. That doesn't even touch upon how usual arrangements where the father onl… | /r/MensRights | 01/10/16 12:49 AM |
| -5 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’I'm going to ignore the personal attacks because they're childish. I was just pointing out that the article is wrong. It's factually incorrect about what the group at Duke stands for. I'm not arguing about what is or isn't right about forcing young boys to conform to or not; I agree that little boys and grown men should be free to choose who they want to be. But that's what the group wants as well. A grown man should be able to comment on how cute a baby is or that he likes his new outfit withou… | /r/MensRights | 30/09/16 11:51 PM |
| -4 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’It's not operating on that assumption. It's operating on the assumption that forced masculinity due to social norms is a bad thing. Edit: So I misspoke here. I didn't mean forced masculinity, I meant rejection of femininity as a result of social norms. | /r/MensRights | 30/09/16 09:56 PM |
| -2 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’It's not at all. It's a group that stresses expression of yourself. They don't want people to feel obligated to reject things they feel for fear of the social repercussions they might face if they "exposed" themselves. | /r/MensRights | 30/09/16 09:43 PM |
| -11 | Duke Offers Men a ‘Safe Space’ to Contemplate Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’I'm a student at Duke, and the article is very misleading. I've never personally interacted with the Men's Project, but I have heard about it on campus. The article makes it out to be some group that shames men for being masculine, but I think a more accurate description is that it is trying to deconstruct the need for such a sense of masculinity. The club is about making it acceptable for men to have feminine traits as well as masculine ones, rather than just destroying the latter. | /r/MensRights | 30/09/16 09:16 PM |
