“Marriage saves money. You will be on a double income and get tax breaks. So many economic advantages.”tax breaks It's hilarious how ignorant people are about taxes. Depending on your incomes marriage can come with a tax hit, not a break. This is not hard to look up, just go to Wikipedia and search "marriage penalty". | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/24 08:16 PM
Did you date during your divorce? How did it go?I had something casual during the divorce process, yes. My marriage ended because of a shitty bedroom situation so as you can imagine I was itching to get laid as soon as we separated. I wasn't too picky, I was fine with anyone I was moderately attracted to and who was fun in bed. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/07/24 06:55 PM
Ever wish she cheated?Yes. I was the one who ended our marriage and while everyone who knew me well ultimately respected my decision there was a certain amount of side-eye directed to me for leaving someone who seemed like a very good partner. If my ex-wife had cheated on me it would have been more straightforward. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/07/24 06:53 PM
How much money did you lose during the process of divorce?Yeah, the system is designed so that even the simplest tasks take a bunch of expensive billable hours. It's so gross. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/24 10:35 PM
How much money did you lose during the process of divorce?Eesh… easily 85k in legal costs which is dumb because I’d rather she kept it amicable and she would have that money instead of flushing it down the drain. Years ago I saw a distressing documentary called Divorce Corp. There's a whole industry out there dedicated to making divorces as gnarly and expensive as possible, it's vile. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/24 10:26 PM
How much money did you lose during the process of divorce?Reading these stories makes me realize how lucky I am. I didn't really lose any money. My ex wife made more money than I did and we didn't have kids. In theory I could have tried to get a bit of money from her but that would be BS, I think alimony is a load of crap. I did let her buy out my half of the equity in our house on favorable terms. That was totally worth it to not have to deal with house hassles and to make the whole divorce process go quickly and smoothly. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/24 10:25 PM
I (40+m) sucked in the bedroom according to my soon to be ex wife (40+F) our marriage was 20 years. I still love her we have been many decades together. How do I stop torturing myself by imagining another man pleasing her and making love to her the way I didn't?That's one of the most common ways to mess with a guy's confidence. It's manipulation 101. It can't hurt to take a look back at what you did in the sack and see if there was room for improvement. It was also your wife's responsibility though to tell you what was good for her and what didn't work. I know it's a cliché but women are more complicated than men and something that drives one woman wild may do nothing for another. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/03/24 06:35 PM
If I agree to terrible alimony can I get it changed later or ignore her completely ?Reddit legal advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. If your lawyer sucks then get another one. You can afford it if you make $30k/month. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/02/24 05:54 PM
Has anyone divorced due to lack of intimacy or sexual attraction? If you're a man you do still have to be willing to put in the work. If you're using apps or dating websites be prepared to send lots of messages. When trying to meet someone in the real world you have to make an effort to go to places and participate in activities where you'll meet single women. You don't have to be the smoothest or best looking man out there but you do need to take the initiative. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/01/24 02:55 PM
Has anyone divorced due to lack of intimacy or sexual attraction?Absolutely this. That's one of the biggest benefits of not having kids, it's so much easier to leave a marriage that has turned into a roommates situation. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/01/24 02:54 PM
Has anyone divorced due to lack of intimacy or sexual attraction?I did. It was one of those stereotypical situations where the amount of sex plummeted almost as soon as we got married. Do I have any regrets? Not really. My ex-wife was a good partner in a lot of ways but sexual compatibility is an absolute must for me. What was particularly hurtful was how during the first year of our marriage she mostly dismissed my concerns about our encroaching dead bedroom, even though we'd had a number of talks before getting married about how sex was important. I think m… | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/01/24 02:49 PM
Any advice?28-35 women are a dime-a-dozen and they just want kids. Shoot blanks into them for 6mo and they'll be none the wiser until you move on to the next. I have to admit I was guilty of doing that after my divorce. Not super-proud of it, but damn was it fun. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/12/23 09:45 PM
Any advice?I think you're going to be in a good position when you enter the dating market again. Being shorter can be a disadvantage but it's easily outweighed by the fact that you have a good job, are physically fit and don't have any kids. Men in their 30s who are single, have their shit together and don't have babymama drama (ugh) are surprisingly rare. Assuming you're 34 when you get back into dating you'll also have a big pool of potential candidates. If you're following the half your age plus seven r… | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/12/23 09:44 PM
How many of you have had an amicable divorce? My ex-wife made a bit more money than I did. The difference wasn't huge but in theory I could've tried to get some money from her. It wasn't a massive threat but it was enough leverage to incentivize her to move things along quickly. To be clear, I had no actual intention of trying to get money out of my ex. I think alimony is bullshit. It was just useful to have that small threat in the background to incentivize her to keep things low drama. I just wanted the whole process to be over quickly an… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/12/23 08:25 PM
How many of you have had an amicable divorce?Ours was amicable-ish. The divorce was my doing and my ex wasn't happy about it but it's not like there was anything she could do to stop me. If she'd done anything to fight me on it it would have harmed her just as much and she had enough sense not to cut off her own nose to spite her face. Things were easy because we had no kids, two good jobs and had never really combined our finances. We did have a house together but I let her buy out my share of the equity in it for a somewhat below market … | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/12/23 08:20 PM
