I have platonic female friends, we hang out. The one time I did spend a lot of time hanging out with a platonic female friend, we ended up skoodlypoopin’ and there were feelings and it was this huuuge train wreck. I try not to pursue my female friends, ‘cause I figure they probably get hit on a lot and aren’t looking for that? It would make things weird.

That’s pretty creepy! This study found that women’s attractiveness is at a peak at 18 and then decreases, but the statistics were gathered using an OLD site/app which probably has a minimum age of 18 for users… Anyway, that is pretty weird

I’m not afraid of getting arrested, but i agree! The risk of offending someone or the social fallout/stigma is so powerful. (And I mean a subtle/polite approach!) Like asking a friend of a friend out is risky because you can be iced out of the friend group, and it’s perfectly understandable too (understandable that they would exclude you from the friend group after asking someone out in the friend group). So in the pro/con analysis it’s usually better IMHO not to try approaching? Pro: approach, …

I think the male selection factor for beauty is primordial. It has existed for hundreds of thousands of years. And I think most of the traits that made a man ‘successful’ for hundreds of thousands of years as a hunter gatherer or farmer or peasant or etc… are probably still relevant to success today (excepting for strength probably? Beyond a superficial bias, physical strength probably isn’t too relevant in today’s world?) And so, yes i acknowledge the ‘modern world’ at most stretches back about…

So, men are selecting beautiful women, thus making beauty an evolutionarily advantageous trait. Each generation more beautiful women are born. And women select based on ‘success’ when mating, so generation by generation are women making men more competent/successful? Like, women are getting beautified by evolutionary forces. But I wonder how men benefit. What generic traits makes a man more competent. ‘Success’ isn’t necessarily genetic inheritable trait. Neither is beauty, but it is more so tha…

Realistically, it would probably be a practical and healthy way to get that physical/emotional intimacy that’s lacking in my life. I am terrible at dating, i’m swiping every day and am able to land a date literally once every year or two. So instead of spending most of my life alone, trying to be with someone, this way I’d at least get the illusion of being with someone a couple hours every week/month? /r/PurplePillDebate12/04/22 02:49 PM

I disagree. I make pretty good money and can’t get the time of day out of most women. I think women are a lot like men in the sense that physical attraction is a prerequisite. It’s like picking out a book! A women sees an interesting cover, she picks up the book and reads the synopsis on the inside jacket. If she likes the summary, she keeps reading. But if you haven’t got good cover art or a good binding, no dice!

It could correlate! There’s the ‘beautiful/attraction’ bias. So from an early age, and throughout life attractive people have more social interactions and more positive interactions than ugly people. This could stunt ugly people’s development. Alternatively, you could argue that due to this bias, attractive people’s personalities don’t have to develop as much as an unattractive person’s, the whole ‘ugly people have to compensate’ argument.

Perhaps, with artificial wombs, child rearing can become a prerogative of the state until the children come of age at say 16-18, at which point they enter a trade or vocational school, university, or (for the boys) are conscripted for 1-2 years? I’m a man, and I’ve had some somewhat similar experiences. You voice an idea/solution in a business/technical meeting and your idea is disregarded and then later somebody else brings it up and suddenly they’re a genius! Or one time at work, there was a senior engineering position available and they hired an outsider. He made like 50% more money than me, and I had to teach him! But I ain’t had no nasty pranks pulled on me at work. And at work, nobody’s ever harassed me sexually. That sucks man. W…

I’m fugly. And I’m pretty isolated (introvert with a remote STEM job and attending uni remotely), so i don’t get to meet a lot of people, let alone women in the dating market. Fascinating! I don’t quite understand though. I think i see some fallacies. Assuming you do want romance/relationship, you’re giving full agency to men? I think this means you’re empowering men? I don’t think being attracted to someone or asking someone out means that your life revolves around them or their gender. Alternatively, if someone were attracted to you, following your life mantra, then they shouldn’t ask you out because it is empowering not to revolve their life around someone else?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/02/22 08:33 PM

Interesting! but why not? Shouldn’t women be empowered? Don’t wait to be ‘chosen’ by a man, take control of your own life!

That herd mentality stuff you mention is a pretty compelling argument. Still though, you’d have to be pretty sick/twisted just to get it up in a situation like that, right?

Well Imma just try to make good money, and live within my means? Regardless, the retirement picture is pretty grim for most Americans. I envision most of us working until death? For me personally yes. If a woman is nice to me there is a knee jerk reaction. I immediately hope/think she may be interested in me. This is an emotional response. However, the rational part of my brain overrides this emotional/knee-jerk response and I don’t act on the belief that she is interested. The rational brain thought process is something like: “she said a nice thing, but she is probably not interested, and it would be a faux pas to assume she is. She is a mature adult and if she were in…

I don’t know what to chalk my failure up to, i just know that if this many women over such an extended period of time are rejecting me, I am the problem. You know? Most People do succeed at dating, so it’s not a societal problem, it’s a ‘me’ problem :(

I would look at that as a bad outcome. I want a partner! And also, as a single guy society does regard you with suspicion/caution. People/society are a lot more accepting/forgiving/friendly if you have a gf or wife IMHO

I agree, but what about when a woman sexually harasses a man, or when a female teacher has sex with a student? It seems much less unconscionable than if the genders were reversed, right?

As a rather unattractive man, I have only gotten contempt/hostility/insulted for my appearance by a woman maybe once or twice. As an ugly guy you’re really just invisible. That’s been my experience. They’re not attracted to me, which I completely understand, and they’re mostly super friendly!

That’s an interesting point. Women have been the majority of college grads and college students since the 80s. Currently, American women represent about +60% of college students. I bet we will see a reversal of the gender wage gap in our lifetime. Also, most positions of leadership will probably be female, right? With the majority of highly educated people being women, that’d make sense I think. I don’t know if it’ll be the end of marriage, but it’ll certainly change things.

I agree. These guys in the articles you’ve linked should be arrested. I don’t think it’s entirely legal repercussions that hold guys back. It can also be a social faux pas to approach women. Most women don’t want to be approached by men. I feel like when women are at a bookstore or the gym or a bar they’re there for a specific activity such as shopping for a book or working out or drinks with friends, not to be approached by guys. Well I’d argue the emphasis on a male star’s appearance IS evidence of a masculinity crisis. But this is more to do with ‘gender norms’ and culture. It’s not a crisis. The definition of masculinity is just changing. Such has it always been, such will it always be. I think a more compelling argument for a ‘masculinity crisis’ or rather a ‘fertility crisis’ is a scientific one. The empirical male congenital deformities/lower testosterone levels/decreased fertility evidence for me is far more convi…

It sounds somewhat controversial, but there is evidence that birth control use “significantly decreased women's preferences for male facial masculinity but did not influence preferences for same-sex faces”. So you may not be crazy, and there may be a drug/chemical factor driving this phenomenon? I feel like in the developed world our diet has become so processed/synthetic, polluted with industrial chemicals. This is just one example, but there’s also phthalates/micro-plastics, etc…

I sort of agree. When I see a woman complaining about how hard dating is because she can’t find a quality date, or someone willing to commit, or etc… I empathize. These are viable problems, but from a man’s dating perspective it does remind me of that old “1st world problems” meme format. I commiserate with the struggle of sorting through a bunch of thirsty dudes and ‘nice guys’ and creeps, but at least you’re getting attention as a dude you’re sort of nonexistent by default. So in conclusion, I…

I think dating in the US in general (or at least in Southern California) is a shitshow. Either that or I’m a total and complete failure that needs to work on himself, but I refuse to entertain that notion! I’m failing at dating, ergo I blame my entire society!
/r/PurplePillDebate01/01/22 07:36 AM

I don’t know, but I will say I’m pretty old, near the wall, 28. And the dating pool seems to have gotten better? Man, back in my teens and early/mid 20s it was like shouting into the void. Things aren’t great now, but it seems like I can get a date (usually with a woman OOML (out of my league)) every few months.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/01/22 02:35 AM

If I could also form a real emotional connection with it, hell yeah. I’d go well over the $15k asking price here. I’m a low smv guy in a male dominated STEM career field in a region of the country that is majority male. So realistically this’d be the surest way to emotional/physical intimacy

I’ve read that Men have a higher basal metabolic rate for equivalent body mass. I think this is because of more testosterone/muscle mass, greater percentage of body weight is muscle. So their baseline ‘calories out’ is usually going to be higher than a woman’s.

Well I’m a below average male. Low intelligence, bald, braces, F.U.G.L.Y., etc… You spend a lot of time alone. If you wait for someone to fall into your lap you might meet someone, probably not though. You really gotta be proactive. Once in a while, maybe once a year or every couple years I’ll get a date through OLD. So, it’s pretty grim. But I have a great career, friends, hobbies, pursuits, etc…
/r/PurplePillDebate27/12/21 05:31 PM
10

I’ve got a pretty low IQ, below average I think, so take this with a grain of salt. Nobody really likes or values intelligence. Think of the smart kids back in school. They were always isolated. Pariahs almost. I’ve read that an IQ difference of 10-20 points makes it very difficult for people to communicate and form bonds. So maybe only smart people like smart people. And if you’ve ever seen an IQ bell curve, this means if you’re trying to date and you’re smart, you’re screwed?

I mean, you make sense. I totally agree with you, but that hasn’t been my experience. I’m fugly (and broke) and I’ve dated women so far out my league we’re not even playing the same game! So I don’t know what to think…

Someone made a post a couple days ago asking women if they would ever approach a man… I’ll just leave it at that! (I’m sure on the PPD subreddit we only really see a small subset of the genders. In my day-to-day life experience and dating experience I’ve never encountered anyone entitled, or at least between men and women I’ve never noticed one gender being more entitled than the other)

Bring on the ‘sex robot AI revolution’! It’ll be like a 2nd sexual revolution. Most men don’t like getting rejected, most women don’t like being approached (or harassed/catcalled). I feel like this solution could make everybody happy! Men and women get their physical and emotional intimacy and hopefully all the aggressive/creepy guys will be satisfied too.

On a ‘game scale’ of 0 to 10 I’m like a 1 or a 0. I am actually much more fluent and socially adept when talking to complete strangers and acquaintances, but once I get it into my head that I am attracted to this woman, it’s like all my social skills evaporate. As a lonely undesirable man, let me just say, it sucks for me, but it is probably really good for the planet! And uh, I don’t think there is a fix. Dating is competitive and most men won’t succeed. I’ve got like 5-6 friend gf pairs that fit this category. In two of the 5-6 couples the boyfriend (my friend) is a few inches taller than me (I’m 5’11. Those two are like 6’3 or something), but in the rest I’m taller.

I have a healthy bmi, i workout, diet, rock climb, hike, bike, etc… I’ve scored once in the last 4 years. And I have several friends who are a little pudgy but have very attractive gfs. So I’m skeptical that this carries much weight (no pun intended) with women

I’ve read there’s some biological evidence to support the existence of the 80/20 rule throughout human history! Mitochondrial DNA shows much more diversity than Y chromosomal dna, which some interpret to mean there are more female than male contributors to the gene pool. Or in other words, over the past couple hundred thousand years a small number of males have been hooking up with most of the women

The first time a woman showed me her tinder account it completely/fundamentally upended my perception of attractiveness. Previously I thought I had an ‘OK’ feel for how attractive people are, like: “she’s very attractive, probably successful at dating”, or “he’s not attractive but he’s in shape, funny” etc… I had a friend in college. We were friends, she was good people, very intelligent, but I didn’t think she was very attractive. I assumed she would have more success than me in dating but stil…

I’ve got female friends who are bros. I also had a friend back in college (he was a man) who took advantage of this woman he was hooking up with. She’d give him rides and money, etc… He took advantage of me too! I’d give him rides help him with his schoolwork. Man that guy was hilarious though. It’s kinda like when someone knows they’re being an asshole and they play into it? I don’t know but he was self aware and acknowledged it.

How can psychology evolve? Psychology is an acquired trait right? It cannot be passed to offspring. It has to be taught, which would then be sociology rather than evolutionary psychology i think? Or I suppose one could argue nature over nurture, but I thought nurture won that debate a long time ago? (I’m not trying to be confrontational. I genuinely don’t know and am asking)

With the advent and proliferation of contraceptives, i think a collapsing fertility rate was inevitable. People can have sex, without having kids. It’s perfect! We have more control and freedom in our lives. Depressing as it sounds, I think TRP is being realistic when they say that men have to get used to being alone/unloved, and that they’re disposable/useless. I would cite mitochondrial vs chromosomal dna diversity, gender roles in other animal species, traditional gender roles in human societies, and demographics to substantiate that view point. Hmm not only the creeps’ behavior would change, normal guys’ behavior would change too. I think it would mean a little less respect from most people (normal non-creepy guys), in addition to more respect from some people(the creeps). Which would be a good thing, imho. It would be a more equal society. We would maybe see the gender wage gap close?

Another commenter made a good point regarding the public shame thing. If you’re a guy who can’t get a relationship with a woman (speaking from experience) you’re damned either way in the court of public opinion. I don’t think it’s realistic or productive to expect women to approach me. the solution, for me at least, is to keep plugging away at OLD, and probably stay single for several years.
