I mean there's no god or creator or soul or afterlife in Buddhism, they're pretty different. By no afterlife and no soul I mean that you cease to exist when you die, you don't get to go to heaven, you lose all your memory and idea of 'self,' you're not reunited with loved ones no matter how good you were in life, etc. It's a bit more brutal than that: when you die you rot.

people need to eat more fruits and vegetables and less processed food. that would make a far, far, far greater impact on someone's diet than just removing meat. you're right that we don't need it, but saying it's the biggest cause of obesity/disease is facile and wrong. we eat too many calories and not enough nutrients. that's what's causing most of our health problems.

You're wrong that meat causes disease. You're right that more vegetables and whole foods lowers the risk of disease. There's plenty of room for vegetables and meat. Personally I'm vegetarian on days I work out when I need more carbs; I eat a ton of beans and oatmeal. But that's more for environmental/ethical reasons, which are much easier to convince someone of than health reasons.
