Depending on the Scotch, try adding a little bit of water to it. KIt helps release the flavour on the palate as well as the nose.

Some pubs are very warm and cosy kinda places, where old men with beards chat shit. Generally no TV's, no music playing, maybe a couple pool tables/ darts boards/ fruit machines.

Apologies, auto-correct is the bane of my 2am, just off-shift existence. I am aware of that, and it makes me sad that Americans rip on Brits for drinking warm beer. A popular British beer called Hobgoblin uses the phrase "What's the matter Lager-boy, afraid you'll taste something?" in their adverts. How difficult is it to find a proper beer in the States? I've only visited Airports, and some had pretty good selections.

Further tips from a current bartender: Always bring your empty glass back up to the bar. If I see you do this, I like you. You get served. American beers are generally swill and should not be consumed if possible, craft beers are sometimes an exception. If the beer is cold, that is because it doesn't taste good.
