That’s not a like comparison at all. The warranty does have value, albeit somewhat lower than what the finance manager is attempting to sell it to you for. It’s not a scam in most cases, the “scammy” reputation comes in to play because most people don’t know you can aggressively negotiate the price of the extended warranty if it’s something you are interested in purchasing, at a fair price.
