I wouldn't be so quick to put down your 10/22 as a home defense option. Is it the best? No, but .22 over the years has accumulated a very large number of individuals on the wrong end of it who would attest to its lethality. u/Clint_Redwood said it best, shotguns tend to be better for home defense for the amount of kickass that comes outta the business end
