Join the college gym or a mixed sports team that has college students. College affiliated clubs are also good if you have other interests (e.g. film society, etc). Make friends and expand your horizons from there.

This makes sense but I have a different perspective and would like to hear your thoughts. Assuming your romantic intentions were clear when asking them out initially, the fact that they accepted the date in the first place suggests there is at least some attraction. True, they may not find you as attractive as they would like you to be (as a boyfriend or girlfriend), but there must be something. I heard an alternative to the Brad Pitt rule that suggested you should say something like "hey, I didn't hear back from you the other day. Hope everything is OK?" The concept being that EVERYONE wants to connect with Brad Pitt. Therefore you are obviously concerned because the ONLY reason she wouldn't call back is that an emergency or serious incident made it impossible... What do you think?

It's a hostile/dick move if you're on the receiving end, but in situations like these it's easy to blow the other guy out of the water by bringing attention to how hard he is working for the girl... For example, if the girl mentions they met in his club you could say "so what was his best line?" He'll probably backpedal and/or play down his game with her to avoid embarrassment, which puts the power dynamic back in your favour, but you should follow up with a joke to keep it light hearted so the …

The initial comment was a challenge. Toby's comment shut it down and reestablished him as top dog. I don't think it was a snide comment. It was just a throwaway line to put someone (who was already acting badly) back in their place.
