0	Sexual violence is abhorrent. But has the fear of it been manipulated to keep female readers coming back? Has the fear become disproportionate to the actual threat? I actually buy the 1 in 5 thing. Mist if my family and friends are women. These are people I trust and they all have stories. I think the disconnect is that the men what do that sort of thing are a tiny but prolific minority, and skew heavily towards conventionally attractive and charming men. The weird dude leering at you makes you feel uncomfortable (understandably), but the biggest threat to women are those that can charm you into being vulnerable around them. 1	Does anyone else here feel like men are seen as expendable by society? Right, but those are very new technologies. Hell, hormonal birth control was invented in living memory. Meanwhile anatomically modern humans have been around for something like 150,000 years and civilization as we know it has been around for 8000 years. 1	Does anyone else here feel like men are seen as expendable by society? Obviously. Personally I think it's biological. The prime directive of all life we know of is to reproduce itself, and AFAIK in all species that reproduce sexually, females, by dint of only being able to gestate one males genetic material at a time, are the reproductive limiter. If you have one woman to 100 men you're reproductively doomed. If you have 1 man to 100 women you'll be alright. We don't like to look at ourselves as animals, but we are. 3	Why doesn't intersectionality theory able to explain the disadvantage of men? To what extent can we separate the theory from how it is promulgated and applied in practice though? I would love to see intersectional theory fully applied to men, but it's been decades and it just hasn't gone that route. Eeh, in her formulation of intersectional theory, Kimberle Crenshaw kind of did throw black men under the bus, portraying us as, like, petit-patirarchs or patriarchs in waiting. 30	Feminism isn't for everyone, it's just for women. People that say it is for everyone, are either naive or deliberately manipulative. I recently posted an article about how feminists should have more empathy for working class men. Suddenly, feminism wasn't about equality or about "helping men too". It was a women's thing and we men should get our own thing. And like, yeah, it's fine. It's okay and good to advocate for the best possible outcomes for your group. 10	"entitlement" when used in the realm of gender discussions is a word I've come to dislike. This is why. And it's fucking frustrating. When nice guys do flip out, is it because they aren't really nice people or because they're so frustrated that they just go off?
