That's an incredibly simplistic view to hold. If we're defining female circumcision as removal of the clitoris, then male and female circumcision are definitely apples and oranges. The problem here is that female circumcision can mean so many different things that it's hard to have a real debate on the subject.

You'll be downvoted but it's true. There are plenty of legitimate discussions in this subreddit all the time, but crap like this gets posted and upvoted far too often.

Male-dominated fields have been hurt more by this recession than female-dominated fields. Manual labor and manufacturing jobs are almost always hit hard by recessions, but professions like nursing and teaching are almost unphased. We need a lot more information before this becomes a legitimate men's rights issue. Are companies actually firing more men than women on purpose? If so, why? I don't see answers to those questions here.

Almost every ideology (for lack of a better term) has a long track record of people misusing it for their own personal gain. That misuse does not discredit the ideology itself. Your post makes it seem like you automatically discount anything related to feminism, which is an attitude I see around here regularly. I don't understand your point with that link. First of all, the NOW is not the voice of feminism. There is no such thing, but I'll ignore that since they are a prominent voice. The six ma…

At first I was like "O_O Maybe this subreddit will be a good place for discussion after all." Then I saw this... well obviously it isn't well-reasoned, they are feminists. Oh well... I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not... You don't need condoms to be able to function properly on a daily basis. You need tampons to be able to function properly during a period.

I don't understand. What exactly do you disagree with in this article? The tone of this article isn't about blaming it on men as a whole. It is about the need to fix a problem that plagues many women across the globe.

Your problem is that you are thinking of feminism and men's rights as being enemies, when in reality that is not the case. You can be a feminist and a proponent of men's rights. The two ideologies rarely conflict with each other. It's the crazy people from each movement who tend to conflict with each other. Just a tip: don't show her this subreddit. It's an easy way to turn people off of the men's rights movement. I might get downvoted for this, but it's the truth.

You must be dating the wrong women. The woman I have dated have never tried to send me to jail or cripple me with legal costs. I have a huge boost of self esteem from relationships, even after the breakup (once the initial pain goes away). Where does a lower standard of living come from? No girl I've dated has ever expected me to spend much money on her at all. In fact, they generally get mad if I ever go overboard for something. My sexual needs will never ever be completely satisfied by porn. Y…

this subreddit tends to be very cautious of hypocrisy I disagree. In fact, that's my main problem with this subreddit. Just look at this whole post right here. Pepsi's app is a simplification and misrepresentation of women. If the same thing was created using stereotypes about men, this thread would be completely different. However, the fact that I'm getting upvoted here goes towards proving my point wrong, so I could be wrong in my judging of this subreddit.

They don't correct slander and misinformation about men for the same reason there's nothing in this subreddit about correcting slander and misinformation about women. It's simply not their primary focus. That doesn't mean they're fine with the slander against men; it just means they don't put their focus on it.

Being respectful is not being a pussy. Most feminists don't hate men. You are referring to the extremes of feminism. The extremes of the men's rights movement are the basically the same. That's like judging all of religion by the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church.

There is no mention of feminists anywhere in your article, or in the articles that your article links to. If you sincerely believe that people being offended by this app means that feminists are trying to eradicate all male oriented aspects of western civilization, then I can't have a discussion with you. It would be pointless. Pepsi made a humorous app. Those who were the butt of the joke got offended. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED!?!?

This has nothing to do with men's rights. Feminists Hate It Because It Amuses Men More Than They Do. Alienating feminists is not a good course of action if you actually care about the men's rights cause.

How can this woman really believe she is entitled to any child support? Apparently, the children have developed conditions (ectodermal dysplasia is given as an example) and she blames him for them. I'm assuming that these conditions are expensive to treat which is why she wants money. However, she can't prove that the disorders came from the father and not herself. Even if she could, it's still ridiculous to hold him liable for any kind of child support. My point is that she is indeed insane to …

All this article does is state facts about a report and other related studies. It's called reporting. You can disagree with the report all you want, but this article is just presenting the report in an easy-to-understand manner with some related statistics on the side. You only think that the article is propaganda because you disagree with the study that the article is reporting on.

I did a quick google search before I posted that comment and found nothing. After your comment I tried a few more phrases in the google machine and didn't find much. Snopes Forum Yahoo Answers Unfortunately those are the only sources I could find, but apparently there are no laws against it, which is what I thought. The only difficulty comes from finding a doctor willing to do the procedure. That's an inconvenience, but if you really want one then it seems like you would be able to get one.

There are plenty of women out there who do not care about diamond rings. That statement does not redefine anything whatsoever. Nowhere did I redefine the word "women" to exclude the materialistic ones. This is the second time in two days that somebody has incorrectly pulled a No True Scotsman fallacy on something that I said when there was actually no fallacy. There are plenty of women out there who do not care about diamond rings. The great thing is that you have a choice in who you want to date, and more importantly who you want to marry. If it bothers you, then find somebody who shares your same view. There are plenty of them out there.

You seem to be looking at marriage using all of the extreme cases instead of what is considered to be the norm in today's society. It is not normal for a wife and family to criticize a husband for suggesting that the wife work to pay off her debts. There are now many women who are having to take on the debts of men. There are not as many, but there are plenty out there. It is also not normal for people to sympathize with a woman who cheats on her husband, and vice versa. You are looking at worst…

I hope this wasn't meant as a serious debate essay, because this is pretty pathetic. I'll only be commenting on the part about the actual wedding and ring because I don't want to waste my time reading the rest based on what I read in the beginning. All this essay does is play on the typical stereotypes of women and create this facade of a "men vs. women" attitude that does absolutely nothing to fix the underlying problems. Not every woman wants an expensive diamond ring. Not every woman wants yo…

This was a weekend thing run by the school. To me it didn't sound like this was a required function. I got the feeling that it was the parents making their kids do this stuff, but I could be wrong. Besides, it's not easy for a bunch of parents to get together and put together something like this. This is something that only a school would have the proper resources to do. I also don't see why schools shouldn't be in the business of furthering a student's non-academic skill set.

I'd argue those boys in the play were hurt No... they weren't. Putting a child in an uncomfortable situation is not hurting them. I would argue that avoiding putting your child in uncomfortable situations would harm them much more. Being a kid shouldn't be about being sheltered from the outside world. Being a kid should be about learning the skills necessary to survive by yourself in the real world. Learning to deal with uncomfortable situations is a necessary skill to have.
/r/MensRights06/07/09 07:35 PM

Part of being a kid means doing stuff that you don't want to do (i.e. school). Hell, part of being a person in today's society means doing stuff that you don't want to do. You can't save every kid from experiencing uncomfortable situations. Girls are forced to go to gym class and play sports, and that is something that makes many girls uncomfortable. Taking your child out of his/her comfort zone is a good thing. Basically, my point is that you are overreacting.

It was then that I realized that if I were a ten-year-old girl, and a middle-aged man suddenly grabbed me and kissed me against my will, it's unlikely that anybody would tell me to quiet down and lighten up if I started screaming about it. In my personal anecdotal experience, that is completely untrue. It's a kiss on the cheek at a Christmas party. That seems semi-normal to me... definitely not something that any sane adult would freak out over.

Uhhh.. I don't think there is any law mandating that female secretaries get paid the same as male construction workers. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard anybody suggest that. Maybe I'm just missing the point...

TALK TO HER! Seriously, through this entire thing it doesn't seem like you have really talked to her about it. Mentioning it to her every once in a while doesn't tell her that it is really important to you. You have to make sure that she knows this is a deal breaker. The main problem here is the non-effort she is putting into this. Not finding a job in 4 months in this economy is not that uncommon, but it also doesn't seem like she is putting forth the necessary effort. Tell her how you feel. Te…

I don't think she implied that it is only a man's responsibility to protect a passed out woman. I doubt she would disagree that it is another woman's responsibility as well, but generally the other women around don't take advantage of the passed out woman so she focused her attention the males for the purpose of this article. I don't see that as being unreasonable. It is your friends' responsibility to get you home OK, just like the passed out girl should be able to rely on her friends (male or …

It sounds like you are trying to project your own personal feelings onto every single man on the planet. There are plenty of men who require financial stability in their partners, and there are plenty of men who have brushed off a desirable woman for financial reasons. It really feels like you have had some bad experiences and you are trying to apply them to every female. There are plenty of women out there who can look past any money issues. Maybe there's more to it than just money? Also, men look for financial stability in women as well. It is a desirable trait (can't think of a better word) in a long-term mate. Just because you want your partner to be financially stable doesn't mean that all you care about is money. It means you don't necessarily want to have to support your partner financially. Men do the same thing. Basically, I don't see how this is a men's…

So police brutality against black people has nothing to do with prejudice, the cops are just incompetent? Sometimes, yes. There are many times where cops beat up black kids because there are black, and there are also plenty of times where cops beat up black kids because the black kids are being violent and dangerous to society (yes, legitimately). There are many times when women are not subjected to the same rules as men are. This story is not one of those times. I see no evidence for them letti…

Why news of "bad women" is needed I'm not usually a grammar nazi, but oh well. Also, I don't think has anything to do with Men's Rights. They didn't give this mother a pass because she was a woman. They gave her a pass because they were too lazy to do their jobs correctly. The fact that she was a woman had nothing to do with it. If she was a man who acted the same way and had the same officials "investigating" then I don't think anything would be different.

I came here to say that same exact thing almost word for word. If you listen to groups of girls talk when they think nobody is listening, they will always talk about things they hate about other girls they know. If one of them gets up to use the restroom, they start talking about her. It's ridiculous. Guys just seem to get along with each other (at least in my experience).

quitting after a long time of smoking can increase a mothers stress and hurt the baby even more than a reduction of smoking. Is there any scientific study or data to back that claim up?
/r/MensRights04/02/09 03:25 PM

Ok... come on. Of course they are going to be less likely to intervene. It is a scientific fact that most men are perfectly capable of defending themselves against most women. I'm not saying that female on male domestic violence does not occur, I'm just saying that this seems reasonable to me. Yeah, it sucks for those who are actually in a dangerous situation, but women are generally weaker than men. It's just biology.

Not really. It's just an expression. If a woman had sand in her vagina she would probably be pretty pissed off and irritable, which is exactly what the expression described. Besides, any female offended by that probably wouldn't last too long in this subreddit anyway.

That would significantly decrease the number of women who came forward with rape charges, which to you would be a good thing, but to me that would be a bad thing. It already takes a lot of courage for a rape victim to come forward. I don't agree with adding even more obstacles to overcome for a rape victim to come forward. Also, the punishment should fit the crime. Are you saying that falsely accusing somebody of murder should carry the same sentence as actually murdering somebody?

To be honest, these are some very loose arguments. There is no relationship between warmongering countries and circumcision, and castration anxiety is not a result of circumcision at birth. I would like to see a study that finds that uncircumcised males are not afraid of getting their penis cut off (bad grammar).

This woman is going to be on the sex offender list. The only difference here is that this woman is not going to jail, whereas a male in the same position would definitely be looking at extensive jail time. The woman just has to deal with 10 years to life on probation, which admittedly is annoying since any small thing will send her to jail for a long time.
